Andy Mckee, a bard

12 January 2007 - 08:22 PM

Yes, I know, it's yet *another* YouTube link, but this guy is just amazing. Some of you may know him, but just in case you don't it's well worth to see him in action... Very inspiring, especial Gates to Numeria which is probably my favourite of the two.

Just popping in to say that, as a woman, I find this hilarious.

Ooo... and I also love little kittens.

Quiz Description: Blurb This!

Blurb This!

Imagine for one moment that you hold in your hands a freshly printed hardcopy of your first novel. You feel the weight of the book, feel its ultra-modern glossy dust jacket and admire the cover design with your name in golden bas-relief at the bottom. You flip through the pages and you swear you can smell the ink and the oil of the two-ton machine that printed it. Reading a few passages ties a knot in your throat. Even the ISBN takes on a supernatural significance. This is perhaps the best piece of text written by human hands ever since our ancestors invented the wheel.

Now your novel will be shipped to thousands of bookshops around the world, where it will compete for shelf space with other equally superior pieces of literature. Suddenly you realize that people may not elbow each other to get to one of the many copies of your book stored in the shop. But you know you have left hooks everywhere, and that assures you. Perhaps you don't have the exciting critical appraisal from the New York Times Book Review, or Nebula Award nominations sprawled all over your novel's cover. Not yet anyway. What you do have (apart from a killer opening, of course) is a killer back cover blurb. A piece of text that whispers into the readers' ears and minds, and draws them in, convincing them that yours is a book worth spending time with.

So what would you like to see on the back cover of your book? Show us a taste of the wonders ordinary people will experience if they take it home. Show us questions but give no answers. Those should only be found scattered across the expensive acid-free paper your masterpiece was printed on. :)

Have fun, everyone!

The AttiCon last night - Debriefing

09 June 2003 - 06:28 PM

Thanks to all who dropped by yesterday at the Attic module gathering! Ophidia, as Adalon the Silver Dragon, was the first one to appear (British punctuality ;)). Then came Silver (Benny & Kane), Strange Girl (Jan Jansen), Laufey (Viconia), Weyoun (Edwin & Laska), Merja (Rilstra Teken'dui), and CHuK'chSS'raGKH (Ahnyah). Sorry if I forgot someone! :D

The Gathering

The Hostess

Melissan, and her hellhound familiar Cerberus, seemed happy to be holding once again a high-ranking job. She did brag a lot, but was soon neutralized by the power of Viconia and Adalon. Jan, Edwin, and everyone else ended up taking a jab at Melly too, but I doubt she got half of it, being lost in a megalomaniac daydream as she was. :)

The Attic Reception area

After solving a technical difficulty with her Wand, Adalon promptly started changing everyone into drow (much to the delight of Viconia, and chagrin of Melissan). Melissan lost it after a while, and polymorphed into a red dragon. A brief exchange of compliments (of the physical kind) ensued between her and Adalon; not one got hurt.

Edwin and Viconia exchanged verbal pleasantries (which will remain undisclosed seeing this is a PG-13 board :)). Let's just say there was talk of casting Storms of Vengeance inside Edwin's robe...

The Fighting Pit

The Pit is a mandatory stop to every Attic partygoer. The entrée consisted of Drizzt fried, sautéed and impaled in many ways. Bodhi followed, and she really kicked ass! She went down with the help of Laska, Viconia, Adalon, Jan, and Benny combined.
Irenicus was the main dish though. In the end Viconia had the last blow and fell the leather-masked wizard. On our way up to the pools, Adalon just *had* to stay behind and fight our resident Black dragon. :)

Pool Party

It too is becoming more and more of a tradition. After the much-sweated victories at The Pit, everyone stripped their sweaty and bloodied clothes, and stepped into the cool soothing waters of one of the pools. The boys (Jan and Kane) were a little flustered by all the bathing-suited beauties swimming around. ;) Adalon didn't fit into any of the pools though.

The Evil Dining room

This is where we really lost it. And I mean big time. Let this serve as a warning folks: overpowered characters, and alcohol *don't* mix. Add a frustrated would-be-goddess of Murder to the mix, and you have the recipe for total chaos. Melissan apparently likes singing 'Hit me Baby one More Time' while seriously drunk and polymorphing into red dragons in very closed environments. Jan fell asleep after much turnip wine drinking, and was totally unaware (;)) of the pandemonium happening around him. Viconia decide to cast Storm of Vengeance indoors (accidentally I'm sure :)), and Melissan followed with a Meteor Swarm. There were other spell casting, chair breaking, table toppling, love declarations pronounced, and a bill from the Evil Dining room owner that will probably get lost in the mail (hopefully).

The Park & Hunting Grounds

We had a brief stop at the Hunting grounds, in which there was much Stirge fighting, and cooking. Rilstra complimented Melissan a few times on her singing. That wasn't a very good idea, since it sent the Transmuter into another screeching spree. There was cheese handy for ear plugging, fortunately. :D There was also talk of everyone's worst date. It was concluded that Melissan would be anyone's Hell date. As to prove the other's point, Melissan turned into a Balor and started chasing after Jan, her newfound love. Poor Jan had to cast Improved Invisibility on himself to escape Melly's loving claws. :D

Balor Room

One of the early Traditions of the AttiCon, if not the earliest, is Balor fighting. At that time, the party was almost at the end, and the only ones present were Jan, Ahnyah, and Melissan. Even with level 20 characters you can imagine it wasn't easy cleaning up a room full of blood thirsty Balors. :D

And that was it. :) There was much chat and wit battles too. In the end I hope everyone had a good time. :D I sure did!

See ya all on the next Atticon! :D

AttiCon Announcement

06 June 2003 - 12:14 AM

It seems my contributions to the Attic lately are nothing but spam. :-)

My PC is already in working order and I'm ready to host the next AttiCon. A big thanks to Ophidia for hosting the last gathering! :D

A reminder: I'm calling you attention to the Calendar feature. I'm going to post the announcement there (if it isn't already done), and we should probably check it out for future Gathering scheduling.
