This is a song, in 3/4 time, key of A minor, suitable for a soprano singer. I composed the tune, and you can find it a midi of it here. I ask you not to distribute it without my permission, thanks!
Aerieās Lament
Once I was a winged elf,
Free upon the air,
Now I am so crippled,
Is that fair?
Why must I suffer so?
Why is life like this?
Here I am, upon the ground,
My wings are what I miss.
Once I was a winged elf,
Not chained to the dull ground,
I miss those days of freedom,
Clouds all around!
Do you know the beauty?
Can you feel wind blow?
You have never flown, so,
How can you know?
Once I was a winged elf,
But darkness came to me:
Humans came, caged me around,
How can it be?
No room even to walk!
Wings limp and festered
I saw you all behind the bars,
Gawked at and pestered.
Once I was a winged elf,
Wings tattered, sick and torn,
Then they came before me,
My wings off were sawn!
It saved my life I know that,
But I did want to die,
There within my cage,
Bleeding did I lie.
Once I was a winged elf,
Now battered, bleeding, grave.
Slowly I recovered,
Still a slave!
Then he came and saved me,
A lowly gnome, but wondrous,
No longer captured,
In the circus.
Once I was a winged elf,
Now I walk like you,
I have gained my freedom,
Travel and view!
Will you be a friend to me,
Or much more?
Will you be a friend to me,
Or much more?
