Would it help if the Attic is separated into two message boards? One reserved specifically for novels (read: serials in progress), and the other one running pretty much like the Attic is running now, but with more emphasis on short stories.
I'd like to hear your thoughts on this. Oh, and I think I will be hosting the next quiz. So, you're gonna see more of me.

What of those little nuggets that start small, then grow...
There is the Short Stories section and the Novels...
I don't think another section is necessary, but that is only my vote.

Hmmmm... personally, I don't think that is such a helpful idea. You see, I can only speak for myself, but I think there's bound to be confusing due to this seperation.
And think about it. We would have to keep up with two boards, instead of one! I might have no life, but I'm sure there posters here who have a, ahum, much richer life than I have, and simply don't have the time to keep up with two boards.
I think this might do more harm than good, but that is just my humble opinion of course, to be taken with a truckload of salt!

IMO there's a risk of that getting a bit confusing. Besides, what about the stories that start out as a single short story and then expand into more of a serial?

Personally, I think it would create more confusion than anything, as people will now have to keep up with two separate boards... plus, like the others mentioned, there's the problem of those "few short stories" that end up turning into full-blown serials, like Zan's Swirly-Color-Thingies (not going to bother trying to spell it ).
So, basically, my vote would be Nay.
And as for the next quiz... looking forward to it

I don't really see how that might help... You'll create a tangible dividing line within the Attic.
I've been turning this over in my head, and I'm not sure that I have an answer. The things that I like about this place are, unfortunately, those that seem to be causing problems. The freedom to post a story is not related to commenting/critiquing a piece. It is a self-policing site that relies on common sense more than hard rules. And, best of all, there is a lot of banter between people. I may be somewhat presumptuous, but I feel that I have made a lot of online friends here, and I feel uneasy about segregating the board such that there might be less interaction.

Cool! I almost have the next part of Wing ready. Just a couple more proofreads.

I would like to take this chance to also reaffirm my desire to keep coming here. As I said above, there are a lot of people here that I consider friends, and I sincerely hope that no one else goes missing.
(Hmmmm..... I'm going to start rambling if I don't post this now...)

I doubt I will be here, so perhaps it's inappropriate to comment. But I *really* do think this is a bad idea. Like everyone's saying, less division is required, not more.
Plusit hampers growth, trying to pigeonhole stories. Doromond's comments were particularly relevant. Kaleidoscopes is a prominent example of stories growing into a series, but there have been others. With two separate boards, such transitions would be more difficult.
Eh, it's not my business anymore. But, really, I don't think that's a good solution.
