Adrian: Baldur's Gate

Chapter 24.

Adrian never really seriously considered the idea of attacking Drizzt; they simply weren't strong enough, and lacked the element of surprise. Besides, Adrian would rather have him as an ally, rather than an enemy.

Viconia did not know of Drizzt, having left the Underdark before him. She nevertheless recognized that he was alone, and fighting the Gnolls, and therefore an outcast and renegade like herself.

This being the case, she leapt forward, letting loose a ululating battle cry, and started pounding Gnolls down. Adrian shrugged, then dropped to one knee and began firing his crossbow.

Drizzt noticed their help, but did not really need it. The Gnolls were finished in minutes. He turned and stared at Viconia.

"Never did I think another Drow would aid me," he said, obviously wary.

"I am an outcast like yourself," was her breathless reply.

Drizzt nodded, and they conversed for a short time in their own language. At the end of it, he nodded to Adrian. "We'll meet again, I'm sure."

"I hope so," Adrian replied.

Drizzt stalked off northwards.

"What was all that about?" Edwin sneered. Xzar sniffed disdainfully.

"Got the hots for him, eh Vickie?" Adrian asked.

Vickie smiled. "He is an attractive male," she agreed. "And I had not thought to see one I could approach ever again." Her eyes cast downward, briefly.

There was an uncomfortable pause, and the party moved on.

Hobgoblins.

The coast was infested with them, and this particular bunch seemed to be armed with poison arrows. Adrian cursed himself a fool, now that it was too late, wishing only now that he had bought some poisoned crossbow bolts from Thalantyr.

But they dispatched them easily enough, as the darkness was drawing in. As they made camp for the night, Montaron, who was on sentry, cried "Ey!"

Adrian bolted forward, crossbow raised.

"I mean you no harm," said a husky, female voice. A woman stood at the edge of the darkness, in a particularly tight thief costume, showing her figure off to best advantage. "My name is Safana. I've been looking for...strong men, like yourselves."
