Lot`s of yammering on my part first:
There is a lot of talking in the chapter and I am not entirely happy with the Jaheira/Viconia exchange. It feels like they just run in circles and Viconia ended up making a bunch of lewd jokes.

Also more obscure game references (hint: I love to run with scissors)

And introducing a new original character for you to keep track off! Valygar has been rather silent, is it a problem?

Beloved Child 33:

As they had made their camp in the lush garden, Viconia and Groder sat side by side under a tree.

“Heh” Viconia suddenly snickered.

“What?” Groder asked and looked up at the woman.

“I was about to ask you what you intend to do when all of this is over. Then I remembered you may be a bit young to consider settling down.” Viconia said and smiled slightly.

“Hmm…” The blonde mused and drew up his knees sinking his chin into them. “I really have not had the time to think about things like that.” He chuckled. “A mansion or something like that would not be bad.”

Viconia gave a wry smile and looked out over the small clearing. Her eyes caught Jaheira whom looked up from the cooking pot that rested over a small fire. Disapproval was written in the half-elf’s face. The druid said something to Nalia who was sitting nearby and walked a bit form the camp. The redheaded mage took over the cooking. Viconia stood and stretched. Then the drow made her way over the grass to the small cluster of trees that Jaheira had stopped by.

“You have been giving me stern gazes.” Viconia said. “May I ask why?”

Jaheria leaned against a tree and sighed.

“I believe I raised this point before about Groder.”

“I do not see why you care so much; you are not exactly fond of him.” Viconia interrupted, and then she wiggled her hips at Jaheira.

“Does this have something do with that you may want Viconia as well?” The drow asked with a flirtatious smile on her lips

“Oh yes.” Jaheria immediately deadpanned. “You have found me out, please come into my arms, Viconia.”

Viconia mock pouted at this.

“You hurt my feelings when you are like that you know.” The Drow sat down in the grass and continued more seriously. “You have said that he is a child but he has killed countless people, those are not the actions of children. Is he allowed to kill but not spend time with women?” Viconia argued. “Or is it because it is I that you are so fretful.”

“Two wrongs do not make a right, Viconia.” Jaheria sat down next to Viconia. “And no, I do not raise this issue because it is you; I would do it with any woman so significantly older then he is. Had you been a girl his age it would have been different.” The Druid sighed. “And yes, he has killed, both in self-defence and I suspect sometimes without cause and will do so again but when it comes to women he still is a child. Inexperience breeds foolishness and poor reactions. Furthermore as I have said you are significantly older then he is and you have no feelings for him, you merely toy with him and I do not think we need to ruin the boy further.”

Viconia shook her head.

“I do not understand why you bother so.” The Drow said. “He harbours great dislike for you yet you concern yourself with his wellbeing. Now that you have once more uprooted his, I admit weak position of leadership; he will revile you even more.” Viconia leaned back and rested on her arms, looking at Jaheira all the while.

The half-elf sighed and looked up at the metal sky.

“Sometimes I wonder.” She said. “But I promised Gorion.”

“Hrmph…” Viconia huffed. “If it causes you such discomfort why try to keep it? Especially since Groder most likely does not care either way.”

“Oh, he does not care.” Jaheira responded. “But I have Irenicus and Imoen to think off as well.”

“Pursuing both this Irenicus and Imoen does not require you to make sure that Groder is safe, comfortable or anything like that.” Viconia said. “Especially not when you consider how disrespectful he is to you. Would you really be saddened if ills befell him?”

“It is complicated, Viconia. It is true he has burned a lot of bridges.” Jaheira began.
¨
“Aha!” Viconia pointed at her. “So why do you care?”

“As I said.” The druid began once more but was interrupted by Viconia.

“Yes, yes.” The Drow waved a hand nonchalantly in the air. “Complicated.”

“It is.” Jaheira defended. “But we have strayed from the subject.”

They were both silent for a while, watching the rest of the party mingle about. Haer`Dalis was furiously writing something in a book. Valygar stared with a brooding look at the vegetation around him.

“Groder is young, inexperienced and foolish.” Viconia eventually said. “With the right training he may yet become a proper male. You know I have no real feelings for him, he is interesting but that is it.”

“Proper male, in the drow sense?” Jaheira asked turning to look at Viconia. “But you admit you simply toy with him and that will not end well.”

“Are there any other proper male?” The Drow responded. “And I do have confidence that I can handle Groder. Drow…” Viconia started.

“He is not Drow and we are not in the Underdark.” Jaheira said “This still has not adressed the fact that you are manipulating someone who is only a boy.” The half-elf continued.

“So you would want me to focus on someone older and more experienced?” Viconia asked and raised a neat, white eyebrow.

“Preferably if you must…” Jaheria gave Viconia a suspicious look.

“Your bedroll or mine?” The Drow smiled and winked.

Jaheira took a deep breath.

“I will reach for my staff now; it would be wise for you to not remain once I have it in my hands.” The druid stated. “But seriously Viconia, what you are doing is not only wrong, it cannot end well. I admit can’t really stop either of you but I would hope that at least you would recognize a foolish path when you see it.”

“We shall see.” Viconia replied. “But now I shall run so you do not violate me.” Then the Drow got up and jogged quickly away from Jaheira casting back glances and cheeky smiles ever so often.

The druid shook her head as she watched the grey skinned elf retreat. Jaheira stood and rested her staff on her shoulder. She did not think things would end well at all.

**

After eating what basically amounted to dried meat and onion flavoured water, the party began moving on and soon found themselves on another long road, this one was metal instead of earth however. The road curved and as yet another dome began rising in the distance, the party came upon an armoured man sitting on the road. When they approached him quickly stood and aimed a crossbow in their direction. He was wearing the same armour as Renya, the knight they had encountered earlier. The man had short dark hair and sported a neat goatee. Otherwise he was rather nondescript expect for a black cape that rested over his shoulder and a bloody bandage that was wrapped around his head.

“Rest easy.” Jaheira said. “We are not enemies. We met your comrade Renya earlier.”

“Oh?” The man said. “I though maybe my head wound had kicked in again.” He lowered the crossbow and pointed towards the bandage. ”You don’t look like those little men.”

“The Halflings are dead and gone.” The druid told the man. “The road back is entirely clear.”

“No, no, I mean the little men with cow heads.” The man responded. The party stared openly at him.

“Are you insane, Rivvin?” Viconia asked and moved a hand towards the Flail of Ages handle.

“I killed a bunch back there.” He nodded towards the dome to which the metal road led. “Of course with my luck they were probably nuns or something.” The knight shrugged. “It is better not to take chances though.”

The party watched, more warily now and hands close to their weapons as the man ambled past them and began disappearing in the distance. The last they heard was:

“Ow! Stupid medulla oblongata!”

**

The dome they now entered was cursed with the same watery decay that one of the previous had been. Here it was arguably worse. What had once had been a library now held large overturned bookcases and tables, hundreds of books floated on the water covered floor. Nalia fished one up and looked at it. The mage flipped through some of the less ruined pages.

“What is that?” Yoshimo asked.

“It is amazing.” Nalia responded. “What little I can glean from it talks about applying magical energies to power machinery like this sphere.” She went on. “I mean the sphere is amazing in it self and all the things we have seen so far, all the machines and… and… it’s just amazing.”

The Kara-Turan smiled at the redheaded young woman’s eagerness. Groder in the meanwhile had rescued a wand shaped like a dragon from its watery fate and was using some parchment to dry it off.

“My Raven, you do realize that those papers may be worth more then the wand.” Haer`Dalis told the youth. Groder looked up at the tattooed actor and handed him a parchment.

“I doubt anyone can make anything of them anyway.” He said.

Haer`Dalis took the paper and examined it. It had been practically destroyed by moisture and the tiefling could make nothing symbols covering it. When told so, Groder smiled triumphantly. Haer`Dalis smiled back, he did enjoy that smile. Viconia rolled her eyes and kept picking among the books. Korgan sloshed over to them and began complaining.

“There be nothin of value here except to mages!” The dwarf rumbled. “I cannot make heads or tails out of anything. This is why I prefer gold or at least bloody items.”

Valygar was busy kicking books away from him and making his way towards the exit.

“I do not see why we must stop and gawk at everything.” He complained to Jaheira.

“You realize that this is something few have ever seen before, although I will agree that our progress could be hastier.” The druid said.

“I just want to be rid of Lavok and this damned thing.” The ranger grumbled.

The domes and the walkways that connected them began curving inwards towards the centre of the immense sphere. The party went through more domes filled with desolation, with ruined machines and laboratories. In one dome in which crystals bathed the room in a green light, thick cables ran between steel engines that held still living organs. Here they met large gelatinous cubes that proved resilient against all weapons except Groders Axe and Viconias flail. When the cubes had been vanquished, the group moved on and eventually found themselves in front of yet another dome.

The room they now held not only one exit like the other domes but two. One of these doors was open and showed a stair leading down into darkness. The room itself held, in its centre, a strange device. It looked like a large metal bowl with jagged poles rising from the edges towards the roof. A small metal triangle hovered over the bowl and lighting shot off it. The electricity flowed over the dome like ceiling and ran down the poles, filling the shiny bowl like object with an eerie light.

**

Hiranmayi felt elated, she had learned that the fiend Ganishuka and his demon ship had indeed been in this city, this Athkatla. The ship had left under suspicious circumstances, trailing a cloud of smoke towards the east. Could this mean that Ganishukas prize had eluded him? One setback would not mean that the old ghoul would give up however; he had eluded death before and clawed his way through more traps then a hundred cats had lives.

She knew that Ganishuka sought a boy, one with the blood of a god in his veins. It had taken a full two months to pry even such a sliver of information from one of the fiend’s servants. Getting information from the inhabitants of this city proved easier and she soon found herself on the trail of a group to which the boy Ganishuka sought may have belonged.

Now she stood in the room that the group had appropriated for themselves at the Inn called “The Five Flagons.” Everything there indicated that the rooms inhabitants planned to return so she could just bide her time. Should Ganishuka return, she; Hiranmayi would snatch his prize away right before his eyes. A fire roared in the fireplace of the room spreading pleasant warmth throughout it and she was thankful that the Inns proprietors kept it going. The girl had foolishly realized that she was not dressed for the colder climate the minute she sat foot in the docks of the city. The silk kurti and pants she wore did not provide much protection from the elements. She drew a pair of Katars from their resting place on her lower back and held them up, her dark eyes inspecting them. The blades were as sharp as ever. Then she pulled forth the right of her two long, dark braids that both ended tied around large golden circles and drew out a long sharp stiletto from the mass of tightly knotted hair. She nodded to herself and put it back in. All she needed to do was to bide her time.

“Hmm…” The blonde mused and drew up his knees sinking his chin into them. “I really have not had the time to think about things like that.” He chuckled. “A mansion or something like that would not be bad.”

Given the things you've put him through in earlier chapters, I don't know if it's intentional or not, but the word 'blonde' has (to me, at least) a feminine connotation.

“I do not see why you care so much; you are not exactly fond of him.” Viconia interrupted, and then she wiggled her hips at Jaheira.

“Groder is young, inexperienced and foolish.” Viconia eventually said. “With the right training he may yet become a proper male. You know I have no real feelings for him, he is interesting but that is it.”

This line from Viconia makes the double discussion worthwhile; the first round was mostly 'you're abusing a child' and this made the second 'I know he is a child that I will use'.

“So you would want me to focus on someone older and more experienced?” Viconia asked and raised a neat, white eyebrow.

“Preferably if you must…” Jaheria gave Viconia a suspicious look.

No, he just doubts he can dry the parchments enough to sell them.

As Viconia tends to do.
No, really, after reading the chapter, I'm almost wishing that someone wrote a Jaheira/Viconia romance. (I'm amazing even myself with this one.)

Also more obscure game references (hint: I love to run with scissors)

Ahh... We really don't play the same games, read the same comics and books, it seems.

And introducing a new original character for you to keep track off!

Would that be for us to keep track of, or to keep us off the track, or both? :( (Err... I'm sorry.)

Valygar has been rather silent, is it a problem?

Valygar usually is silent. And dark and brooding. And in bad humour. You're showing this perfectly. (Thank you for the almost-nonexistence of Korgan in this chapter, by the way.)

“I was about to ask you what you intend to do when all of this is over. Then I remembered you may be a bit young to consider settling down.” Viconia said and smiled slightly.

That be a jibe at game LOVETALKs?

“Hmm…” The blonde mused and drew up his knees sinking his chin into them.

This is as much in response to Cel's comment as the actual text: a 'blonde' is a woman. A man is 'blond'.

I actually like the conversation between Jaheira and Viconia. I love Nalia's amazement, and Yoshimo's smile. And 'Dalis' using lore. And I'm wondering about Hiranmayi. (Can she, please, kill Korgan? Can someone, please, kill Korgan?) And I'm with Valygar in that I'm really wondering how much further they have to go, because this certainly ain't the Planar Sphere I'm used to seeing. Not that it's a bad thing. :(

It is just a grammatical error but it seems like it worked out anyway. I have described him as looking rather femine after all (unless I failed at that).

“I do not see why you care so much; you are not exactly fond of him.” Viconia interrupted, and then she wiggled her hips at Jaheira.

*Bows*

Glad you found it amusing. I was afraid it may have been a bit over the top.

Ah, so the dialouge worked out. That is good. Intresting obeservations.

Little guys from the Postal 2 expansion pack. Yes, I have such bad taste.

That could of course be a reason.

Some may end up being in the more obscure section I admit. :(

Right... more Korgan in the future then!

A small one maybe, I just wanted to use some ingame dialouge for a change.

Although I always love it when they start right before a battle or something. It is just so absurd.

“Hmm…” The blonde mused and drew up his knees sinking his chin into them.

Noted, although the error seemed to work anyways. :(

Glad to see you like it so far, the sphere will be a few more chapters, they still have some stuff to do there after all.

You really don´t like Korgan do you? I bet you will like him even less before he exits this story.

Seems like something Viconia would do.

“Hmm…” The blonde mused and drew up his knees sinking his chin into them. “I really have not had the time to think about things like that.” He chuckled. “A mansion or something like that would not be bad.”

And run a guild of thieves or murderers from there, or some equally shady business. Might be a nice setup!

“I do not see why you care so much; you are not exactly fond of him.” Viconia interrupted, and then she wiggled her hips at Jaheira.

“Does this have something do with that you may want Viconia as well?” The drow asked with a flirtatious smile on her lips

I seem to remember that in one of their banters Viconia was suspiciously complimentary towards Jaheira.

“Sometimes I wonder.” She said. “But I promised Gorion.”

“Hrmph…” Viconia huffed. “If it causes you such discomfort why try to keep it? Especially since Groder most likely does not care either way.”

And I think Gorion would not begrudge Jaheira if she gave up on Groder.

“Proper male, in the drow sense?” Jaheira asked turning to look at Viconia. “But you admit you simply toy with him and that will not end well.”

I suppose if he doesn’t really love her either… but it’s hard to gauge how serious his feelings for her really are.

“So you would want me to focus on someone older and more experienced?” Viconia asked and raised a neat, white eyebrow.

“Preferably if you must…” Jaheria gave Viconia a suspicious look.

“Your bedroll or mine?” The Drow smiled and winked.

They would make for one hell of a couple. I don’t consider the pairing to be totally unbelievable either.

“Oh?” The man said. “I though maybe my head wound had kicked in again.” He lowered the crossbow and pointed towards the bandage. ”You don’t look like those little men.”

But you’re not completely sure? Think that head wound is still affecting him. :(

“My Raven, you do realize that those papers may be worth more then the wand.” Haer`Dalis told the youth. Groder looked up at the tattooed actor and handed him a parchment.

Well, -you- wouldn’t be able to make anything out of any mage spell scroll.

The domes and the walkways that connected them began curving inwards towards the centre of the immense sphere. Mmm, walking dessert… can I have a pineapple one?

Yay for new characters – she’s already more entertaining than Valygar (granted, even a pet rock is more entertaining than Valygar).

Heh... yup.

"What? No no... this is not a den of thieves and killers!"

Maybe Viconia likes to have all roads open?

No, not really. The meeting with spirit Gorion in TOB is going to be awesome!

I will try to explore this soon.

Better watchout for that crossbow!

Of course he would not... ergo they are useless...

Heathen! You would eat the wobbly kings of all monsters!?

He is a popular guy. Of course... most of the people looking for him are crazy...

It feels like they just run in circles and Viconia ended up making a bunch of lewd jokes.

Lewd jokes seems IC for Viconia. And sometimes conversation does run in circles :D .

You know, that would be quite an interesting combination, especially since Viconia seems to have problems with men in general. They both are quite strong persons.

First cookie goes to Viconia. In our history, after all, fifteen years was a suitable age for a marriage once (but Haer is a creep still; no, I don't think that it's double standarts).

I'm afraid that explaining it to a drow is almost impossible. 'Feelings' and sex are very different things for them, AFAIK. Hell, these are different things for most of my RL friends. If both sides understand that they are just having some quality time together, what's wrong with this?
Not to mention that drow girl of his age would be freaking child, literally. Perhaps, for normal relationship elf has to be several times older than human.

“Yes, yes.” The Drow waved a hand nonchalantly in the air. “Complicated.”

“It is.” Jaheira defended. “But we have strayed from the subject.”

Complicated, yes...but besides of possibly Valygar, who would help Jaheira to rescue Imoen or to kill Irenicus? If party would split, Yoshimo would follow Groder, and so would Nalia. Viconia? Korgan? ( :D ). Of course, Groder's death would change things significantly.

Hm. Thing is, she doesn't really seem to manipulate him. Flirt - yes. Use party as protection -yes, but that's all.

“Are you insane, Rivvin?” Viconia asked and moved a hand towards the Flail of Ages handle.

Really minor issues, but
1)rivvin means 'humans', i.e. it's plural as far as I know. 'Human' is rivvil. Frankly speaking, I'm not sure since in game both words are used in both meanings (as I've checked now with NearInfinity). That means in particular that this issue is unimportant (or, perhaps, different endings depend on something else). According to some sort of online dictionary I used to write some fiction, however, the aforementioned difference between two words does exist. Gee, I feel myself quite insane, discussing drowish grammar.

2)Translating this question to english (with above correction) would sound like "Are you insane, Human?" I really see no need to use capital letter, it's just name of the race.

:D Quite crazy bastard, isn't he? 'Medulla oblongata' sounds familiar somehow, but Idon't remember what is it.

“There be nothin of value here except to mages!” The dwarf rumbled. “I cannot make heads or tails out of anything. This is why I prefer gold or at least bloody items.”

In magic-fearing Amn it's a very reasonable atittude, I think. While I can really understand people disliking homicidal, treacherous dwarf, personally I had him in party in almost every walkthrough :D .

“I just want to be rid of Lavok and this damned thing.” The ranger grumbled.

Did they shackle you, Valygar? Go ahead and die :D
They are helping him basically for free (at least without exacting payment from him), and he whines ;).

Here they met large gelatinous cubes that proved resilient against all weapons except Groders Axe and Viconias flail. When the cubes had been vanquished, the group moved on and eventually found themselves in front of yet another dome.

Wait a minute... Cubes are invulnerable to weapons +2 or worse and only 1 fighter in party has +3? In that case the party is in troubles, since they have iron golems and demons ahead. Or does Groder's axe has elemental damage?

Should Ganishuka return, she; Hiranmayi would snatch his prize away right before his eyes.

I am not really good at English, but shouldn't it be: "Should Ganishuka return, she, Hiranmayi would snatch his prize away right before his eyes", i.e. comma instead of semicolon (once again, if small nitpicking annoys you, feel free to say so; such minor flaws aren't important in any way, and I know that I'm a pain in the neck sometimes).

She is going to wait for a long time, I'm afraid :) Well-armed nutter she is anyway.

It feels like they just run in circles and Viconia ended up making a bunch of lewd jokes.

Lewd jokes seems IC for Viconia. And sometimes conversation does run in circles ;) .

Thank you

“I do not see why you care so much; you are not exactly fond of him.” Viconia interrupted, and then she wiggled her hips at Jaheira.

“Does this have something do with that you may want Viconia as well?” The drow asked with a flirtatious smile on her lips

“Oh yes.” Jaheria immediately deadpanned. “You have found me out, please come into my arms, Viconia.”

You know, that would be quite an interesting combination, especially since Viconia seems to have problems with men in general. They both are quite strong persons.

I have started a trend (at least I think so). I don`t really know how long it would last between them thought.

She has a point but Faeurnian society (society in most fantasy really) is oddly modern in many aspects.

Jaheiras POW is mainly that any realtionship between them would go to hell in handbasket fairly quickly. And she did not exactly mean an elf girl Groders age.

A normal elf/human realtionship would have a lagre age discrepancy, that is true. AFAIK the three elf love interests in BG2 is alot older then the PC. Jaheira is the youngest by far.

“Yes, yes.” The Drow waved a hand nonchalantly in the air. “Complicated.”

Yep, Groder is kind of Jaherias only path to Irenicus. Groder dying would change things yes but it would be bad for this story. ;)

She has not really gotten around to that part yet, maybe she never will.

No no, I think I use the same dictionary so we are both insane. I think i have noted the game using both meanings as well.

*nodding* I will remember that.

It relays nerve signals between the brain and the spinal cord

I don`t think I ever played through the game with Korgan in the party.

“I just want to be rid of Lavok and this damned thing.” The ranger grumbled.

Heh... he is just grumpy.

The axe (Azure Edge) does fire damage in the game. There may be less golems and demons ahead...

No no, it is quite fine. It is annoying that I miss things like that.

Well, she will be waiting a few more chapters atleast.
