Finally, after what even Adrian admitted was longer than it should've been, they returend to Bhodi.

They stepped through the great blue doors. Bhodi was leaning over the table, looking at a map of the city, two male vampires at her side. They were plotting some strategy or other for the Guild War, no doubt. Adrian would've liked a closer look, but now was probably a bad time.

"Ah," she said, turning to greet them. "I was beginning to wonder if you were coming back." She said it easily, but there was an unpleasant glitter in her eyes.

"We got sidetracked by several quests," Adrian admitted. "It is hard to find time to juggle everything, or at least it has been so for me since I found myself here."

Bhodi nodded, lips pursed thoughfully. "I've half a mind to send one of mine with you, Drayven perhaps," she indicated the younger of the two male vampires. "But there's that trouble of travel during the day time."

Drayven seemed to blush, of such a thing was possible for a vampire. Bhodi shooed both him and the older male away, and they retreated into the lower depths.

"In any event, things have gone well enough in your absence. I have the magic liscence here"--she handed it over to Edwin, who took it eagerly--"and the war has been going well. But as it so happens I have two possible tasks for you. Choose; they cannot both be done. One requires cruelty and darkness, the other is....more heroic." Bhodi said this last word with a grimace, as though she had tasted something bad.

"Why?"

Bhodi blinked, then frowned. "Why, what?"

"Why can't they both be done? Consider double duty my repayment for taking so long to come back, if you like."

Bhodi's expression softened, as though no one had ever said anything like that to her before. "I....well, that is flattering, but both must be done tonight. You can't do one task now and save the other for a later date."

"Well tell us the tale of both tasks, and perhaps we can divide the party to achieve them." In truth, this was not kindness on Adrian's part; he wanted very much to dive heat first into the guild war. It spoke to him in a way no other fight ever had, and he couldn't have said why. The lure of his heritage was part of it, certainly; but that was true of most every battle he fought. This was different, somehow. Special.

Bhodi nodded slowly. "The one task is an assasination," she explained, "The other is more of a rescue....."

--------

Anomen, Tree and Jan found themselves once again splitting off from the rest of the group, to perform the more 'heroic' task.

"Why do I get the feeling we've taken the harder road, with fewer party members?" Anomen grumbled.

"The task is not to your taste?" Tree raised an eyebrow.

"Rescuing a poor soul from the clutches of the vile Shadow Thieves is indeed to my taste. I just wish we had more party members to try it with, that's all."

"We don't have to storm the inner santcum, Ano," said Jan cheerfully. "Just a quick raid. Hit and fade, I beleive the term is."

"Yes, I know that," Anomen ground his teeth in frustration. "I just would wish for a larger party to attempt it with. And please, spare me any tales of too many gnome chefs spoling the turnip stew, or whatever."

Jan blinked, then laughed. "Fair enough, Ano, fair enough. We're almost there, anyway."

The Shadow Theif Guild loomed over them, a tall building in dull orange. Almost a part of government, the Thieves had found their power base threatened by Bhodi's Dark Walkes and the other rival, The Night Knives. The triconered guild war was seriously weakening their position with the Council of Six and the Cowled Wizards. Probably the only thing saving them was the fact that those agencies had no wish to have to make new bargains with one of the other factions.

Anomen frowned. Doubless the Thieves would be ready for trouble. This would be a hard battle.

Perhaps she read his thoughts, or perhaps Tree just had good sense. For she said, "I don't think charging the front door is a good idea, do you?"

"Perhaps not, but what do you suggest?"

She pointed to the long winding stairway on the southern wall of the building.

-------

Adrian and the others, meanwhile, were finding their assasination attempt was not going as quietly as they could've wished....

VALEN!!

She might join Jade in SoA.

One requires cruelty and darkness, the other is....more heroic." Bhodi said this last word with a grimace, as though she had tasted something bad.

heh

"Why?"

Bhodi blinked, then frowned. "Why, what?"

"Why can't they both be done? Consider double duty my repayment for taking so long to come back, if you like."

Interesting ingratiation.

I don't make the obvious tactical objection, rather is seems somehow clever. Both tasks would surely be quick, with profits/loot outweighing the risk, and it builds a certain rapport with Bodhi, with whom I guessing he wants a real stake in the guild war.

Bhodi's expression softened, as though no one had ever said anything like that to her before. "I....well, that is flattering, but both must be done tonight. You can't do one task now and save the other for a later date."

Eenteresting.

LOL

Not Ano's specialty.

Onyx: SANCTUARY! That spell makes us sneaky! Except for all the clanking....

Have I mentioned how much I liked Jade?

Valen will not survive Bhodi. But Drayven will. No that he will join Ade; no he'll have his own story.

Eenteresting.

Adrian is reflecting my honest enjoyment of taking Bhodi's side in teh Guild War here. Particularly when you take out Linvail (which of course Ade isn't doing yet). I love the Shadow Theif labyrinth dungeon fights. Love em love em love em!

 The Jade-side comments have been encouraging.

Such an expansive continuity you have!

Typo: 'returned'

"We got sidetracked by several quests," Adrian admitted. "It is hard to find time to juggle everything, or at least it has been so for me since I found myself here."

It certainly is.

Oh, interesting turn of events here!

I suspected as much.

I always wanted to ask Bhodi that. "Why can't I do both? I *wanna* do both!"

;) I can't believe I've still only played one SoA a/o ToB game. Must...play...Bodhi..side....

Things to remember when taking Bhodi's side:

When Valen comes to you, go *that night* to see Bhodi. Don't screw around. More than once I found myself missing the opportunity to side with her because I took too long with other quests.

It is possible to have Edwin in the party even though you take Bhodi's side. The quest where you get him can be done before choosing sides, even though you've already done something for the Thieves. More than once, I found myself in the amusing situation of having offed Mae'Var for Renal, left the Theif building with the reward from Renal fresh on my person, and had Valen walk right up to me, right there at Shadow Thief HQ. Ha!

The first two quest for Bhodi, the shipment one and the pick-your-task one, are time sensistive. Don't screw around with these, either. Do them instantly. On the other hand, I've found that you can take as long as you want to do the third quest, to actually take on the Shadow Theives. the only limiting factor being how quickly you want to get to Spellhold.

Certain characters are obviously not going to like your taking Bhodi's side. I know that Mazzy, and I assume Keldorn as well, instantly leave the party if you choose Bhodi. Anomen and Minsc are, each in their own way, rather wary, but not ciritical. Valygar doesn't think much of Bhodi but goes along with it.

Korgan and Edwin's quests are both in this area as well, so keep that in mind.

I cannot say this often enough; the quest to take out the Shadow Thieves, and Aran Linvail in particular, is one of the most fun dungeon crawls I have ever had in any CRPG. The first time figuring out what exactly you have to do to reach Linvail is somewhat annoying, but upon repititions it is the most enjoyable part of the entire BG saga for me. I wish it could be released as a separate mod to be played alone. There are times I wish I could go from killing Linvail straight into TOB.

Oh yes, almost forgot. Do not play a thief as your Bhaalspawn PC. Bhodi won't even talk to you.[/b]

Well, maybe if he used an umbrella... ;)

He's being negative again. :)

Ahh thanks all around...esp. this last (although it sounds vaguely familiar, from Harrian and Tide of Destiny I think.) It would royally reek to go get stumped by that (and probably drive me to install dungeon-be-gone to restart and skip Chateau Irenicus, even though it would only be my 3rd time.)
