another chapter, another step into madness...
enjoy

“So we stormed the temple of Bhaal and killed Sarevok and his final supporters,” Tybalt finished. He and Haer’Dalis sat at one of the Five Flagon’s tables amidst several empty cups. The others had long since gone to bed and only the eager bartender remained awake in the hopes of selling another bottle to the men.

“You have the skill of storytelling in you, Tybalt, I can tell,” the bard smiled. “You have kept me till the darkest of night to hear your tales, yet I yearn for more. If either of us is to get any rest, however, we must take a break until the sun again rises.” He stood up and stretched. “I believe I still have accommodations left from when Raelis housed us all. I wonder what will become of the playhouse now that she is gone.” He stared into space for a moment.

“Haer’Dalis,” Tybalt said quickly, before his nerve left him. “Haer’Dalis, you told Raelis you still had business here that lay unfinished. What…?” He dropped off, conscious of how prying this seemed for a perfect stranger to ask.

“My business?” Haer’Dalis asked with a twinkle in his eye. “I have had the most remarkable good fortune to discover a wounded bird fallen from its nest. With time, I may yet be able to mend its wings and see it fly again. I haven’t the slightest idea how the tale will end, but I promise that you will be the first to know. Now, goodnight, my raven. May you dream of flight.” He went up the stairs slowly.

Tybalt sat for a moment, dwelling on the bard’s answer. “A wounded bird?” he wondered aloud. Shaking his head, he followed the bard’s trail and stepped into the room he and Ajantis shared to discover the paladin gone. He casually wondered where the man had gone, but his armor and sword rested by the bed, so there did not seem to be any threat.

Wearily, he got into bed and thought about the busy day until sleep claimed him.

He woke to discover himself in Candlekeep once more, but this Candlekeep was not the citadel he remembered from childhood. Shelf after shelf lay empty around him and all the furniture held a thick layer of dust. Nothing moved, and nothing living was in sight.

He spun in a circle to ensure he was alone. Not a sound reached him, his senses detected no other. He relaxed for a moment, hoping that this would not turn out to be another nightmare similar to the one he had experienced in the de’Arnise keep. Since that night, he had slept lightly, and dreams were forgettable and scarce. This was the first time he remembered actually being in one.

He paced the halls, curious to see why his subconscious had brought him here. Whether his divine heritage or mortal mind was at work, something had called him back to this scene of his youth.

“Hello?” he called out in increasing frustration. Why wasn’t anything happening? Someone should come for him and provide direction. “Gorion? Imoen? Jaheira?”

“They are all gone,” someone said from behind him. Shadow and pain echoed in the voice and he felt a coldness enter his heart. He turned but saw nothing. “You have been abandoned. No one even remembers your name.”

He tried to discover the source of the voice to no avail; the room remained as lifeless as before. “Who are you?” he shouted, fear rising in his voice.

“A better question would be to ask who you are,” the voice responded coldly.

Tybalt had no answer.

“An upstart!” the voice roared. The ground shook and bookcases toppled into clouds of dust as the world burst. From the darkness at the end of the room, two glowing eyes opened and stared at him. “I have been watching you, brat, and am not impressed. There are thousands stronger than you, cleverer than you, more influential than you. Yet you manage to survive, even flourish, while others wither and die. How does something so insignificant live for so long? It can’t be your will; I have seen you falter and give up countless times. Your comrades? They would as soon lock you up as be near you.”

Tybalt thought of Jaheira’s increased frustration with him and Valygar’s occasional looks of fear now that he knew of the Bhaalspawn’s origins. The others acted little better. Ajantis couldn’t even remain in the same room as him.

But someone hadn’t treated him like this. “Haer’Dalis-” he began hopefully.

“Do you think the tiefling cares about you?” the voice behind the glowing eyes mocked. “He is as damned as you, or hasn’t he told you? He carried the blood of a demon in his veins, much as you do. He finds a common spirit in you, another tortured soul to feed upon. Or were you hoping there was something more?” The voice took on a disgusted tone and Tybalt stepped back involuntarily.

“Who are you?” Tybalt asked again with a hint of understanding. He hoped he was wrong.

“You know very well who I am,” the voice snarled. “You have been fighting me from the moment we met.”

“Father,” Tybalt whispered, dropping to his knees.

He could barely make out a form in the shadow, completed by the glowing red eyes. He knew that if he beheld the figure fully, he would not survive the experience.

“I think it is best we speak,” the dead god declared. “You are coming along nicely, but not fast enough. Your brother was a much better son; he knew what had to be done and how to do it.”

“I killed Sarevok,” Tybalt pointed out icily, recovering his senses and his nerves. “And like him, you’re dead.”

The figure laughed deeply, tumbling the world into chaos until he stopped. “You do have some fire. That will not save you, though. Only I can save you.”

“Save me from what?” Tybalt demanded. A trickle of blood had begun to leak from his nose as his father laughed but he ignored it.

“From your fate. To die at one of your brother’s or sister’s hands. Inevitable, no matter how long your luck holds out. You will die.”

“Everyone dies,” Tybalt countered. “I don’t want to live forever.”

“Don’t you?” Bhaal sneered. “You can’t lie to me; I am a part of you. I’ve seen your eyes search the sky when no one watches, wondering what it would be like to live like us. You think over Sarevok’s plan, wonder whether it could have worked or not, whether it still can work.” His father took a step nearer, closer to the light, and the blood flowed more quickly from Tybalt’s nose. His head tightened painfully.

“It is possible, my son. You can be the last one, the one to bring me back. But you must control yourself to do so; you are of no use to either of us if you die. You have become reckless, thrusting yourself into danger willingly. But that will not end the pain. Nothing can end the pain. Live. Live and become something more. This is the only choice, and you know it.” Bhaal receded back into the darkness and the world spun away. This time, though, Tybalt mercifully fell into peaceful slumber.

*

Ajantis walked the small yard behind the inn’s kitchen. The room was too hot to sleep in, and his thoughts needed sorting. Rather, the one thought that ran through his mind. Aerie.

Her face passed through his mind without cessation; he found himself distracted in battle with concern for her wellbeing. He could not go on like this; she must know.

He now stood beneath her room, having made sure of its location while the others ate and readied for bed. A pebble rapped against the window pane to break the night’s silence. Another followed, but was enough to rouse the room’s occupants.

Jaheira poked a head out groggily, an irritated expression visible from this distance. “Ajantis? What time is it? What’s wrong?”

“Ah, nothing is wrong, Lady Jaheira,” Ajantis replied helplessly. He had not anticipated the druid’s answering his call. Thinking quickly, he said the first thing that came to mind. “I had wished to ask the Lady Aerie for a quick prayer before we face the morrow.”

Jaheira glared at him with obvious doubt. “In the middle of the night? Surely you could have found time before breakfast or on the road. Go to bed, man, and let at least some of us sleep.” She slammed the window shut.

Ajantis turned away glumly. He had escaped relatively unharmed from the druid, but he hadn’t seen any sign of Aerie. Surely she would have heard Jaheira walk to the window, or their conversation. Maybe she didn’t want to listen to Ajantis.

He walked back to the inn door and went through it, making his way back to his room. He kept his eyes on the floor and thus didn’t see the lithe figure before him until he bumped into her.

He was about to apologize when his lips froze. Aerie stood before him wrapped in a blanket, wearing a shy smile. “I thought I’d find you down here,” she said simply.

They sat at the table Tybalt and Haer’Dalis had left scant minutes ago. “I heard you talking to Jaheira and slipped out while she was distracted,” Aerie explained with a giggle. “I made the pillows look like I was sleeping in case Jaheira checked,” she laughed.

“Aerie,” Ajantis threw caution to the wind and grabbed her small hands in his. Helm had sent him this one chance to confess his admiration, and he planned on taking it. “I realize I have only known you for a short time, but believe me when I say that I have thought of little else since that first meeting. You are a phantom that no amount of meditation can dispel, nor would I want to banish you if I could. I had to let you know lest this secret drive me mad. Lady Aerie, may I have the honor of courting you?” He gazed earnestly into her eyes.

“Oh, Ajantis,” Aerie breathed faintly. She covered her mouth with her hands, half disbelieving what she heard. “I-I…yes, you may.” She squeezed his hands once, then let go. “But you must wait until tomorrow. It would be indecent if we began this while the others were asleep.” Her eyes sparkled scandalously and he felt heat flush his face.

“O-of course,” he stammered, breaking eye contact. “Forgive me.”

“I was just joking,” she chided him mildly. “You should loosen up, Ajantis. Since my time out of the circus, I have found so many things to smile and marvel at. You should do the same.”

“I think I already have,” he murmured, and it was her turn to blush.

“It’s late,” she repeated. “I should go to bed.”

“I will escort you there,” Ajantis said proudly, then realized the implication. “Only to the door, I mean. Then I, too, will go to my own room-”

“Thank you,” Aerie laid a restraining hand on his arm and led him upstairs. At the door to her room, she checked to make sure Jaheira had already fallen back asleep, then glanced at her paladin one final time. “Goodnight, my knight,” she whispered and risked a quick peck on the cheek before darting behind the door and closing it quietly.

Ajantis touched his cheek and smiled. Only good things could come from his joining this party.

Egh, is he planning to court Aerie then? Gah... I never saw Haer-Aerie romance dialogues in the game, but when I read them in InfExp, they made me absolutely sick. :)

He tried to discover the source of the voice to no avail; the room remained as lifeless as before. “Who are you?” he shouted, fear rising in his voice.

“A better question would be to ask who you are,” the voice responded coldly.

Tybalt had no answer.

Heh, I like this. Very nice adaptation, chilling.

Tybalt thought of Jaheira’s increased frustration with him and Valygar’s occasional looks of fear now that he knew of the Bhaalspawn’s origins. The others acted little better. Ajantis couldn’t even remain in the same room as him.

I thought that they shared a room in the inn? :P

That would be a bit too sudden, wouldn't it? Though maybe everything happens quickly with Bhaalspawns...

“From your fate. To die at one of your brother’s or sister’s hands. Inevitable, no matter how long your luck holds out. You will die.”

I bet he taunts all other Bhaalspawns similarly, trying to sick them on each other.

Hmm, I wonder did Tybalt liked what he heared?

Jaheira glared at him with obvious doubt. “In the middle of the night? Surely you could have found time before breakfast or on the road. Go to bed, man, and let at least some of us sleep.” She slammed the window shut.

Ooooh, he really got off lightly! Don't irritate the druid, if you know what's good for you!

They sat at the table Tybalt and Haer’Dalis had left scant minutes ago. “I heard you talking to Jaheira and slipped out while she was distracted,” Aerie explained with a giggle. “I made the pillows look like I was sleeping in case Jaheira checked,” she laughed.

You know, that's cruel on Jaheira. I mean, to make her sleep in the same room with Aerie. ;)

“Aerie,” Ajantis threw caution to the wind and grabbed her small hands in his. Helm had sent him this one chance to confess his admiration, and he planned on taking it. “I realize I have only known you for a short time, but believe me when I say that I have thought of little else since that first meeting. Sigh. I wonder what is it that makes men fall for the weak, helpless, dependant female type. Women like Aerie are the reasons why idiot males refer to them as 'frail flowers' or 'weaker sex'. Heck, and by that they insult strong, proud, self-respecting woman like Jaheira. :)

Egh. I shall be magnimous and wish them good luck (and considering the peanut-size of their brains, these chimps are going to need every little bit of luck, they can get).

Uh, that was the 'Edwin-in-me' speaking. :)

hehe, Aerie could have three suitors, lucky gal. but no, she'll have to be content with two for now. Haer has other plans in mind. though his courtship may not be better than the one you found in IE. after all, Haer calls everyone birds, not just Aerie

even though he knows his heritage, now, he still doesn't have much information to go with. not that there's much documented on the bhaalspawn, i would imagine, other than the prophecy of their destruction. he's going through this without any foreknowledge

well, tybalt is overreacting a little to the others' reactions, but yes, that makes for strained sleeping habits :P

what to sudden? haer'dalis' feelings? there's nothing going on yet, just imaginings of tybalt and speculation, but he's already started to think about this, so i wouldn't consider this too soon. nothing's happened yet, just his inner dialogue talking to itself, really :)

maybe i should have imoen's own problems with daddy detailed, and later in ToB...Bhaal really isn't as prevalent in the games as i would have thought; it seems like BioWare supplied Sarevok whenever the essence had to be addressed

no doubt he would like an end to the torment he often falls into. but we can't tell yet what his true thoughts are: he hasn't had a chance to test his resolution. but a time will come...

yup, he's lucky. i attribute it to her tiredness; had she been anymore awake he would have been chewed up severely. :)

heh. i think they'll get along better since neither of them are going after tybalt, let alone the same man. plus, they're the only women in the group, so decency requires they share sleeping space (Ajantis would be shocked otherwise, I'm sure :) )

i agree, though her openess and gentle manner go a long way, too, i think. jaheira can be intimidating, especially to men with little to no prior experience with women. aerie's the kind of girl a good person would want to take home to mom, while jaheira would likely as not start an arguement in the kitchen. not to overlook aerie's flaws, but maybe people focus more on her good qualities (which i believe she has) rather than her weaknesses.

hehe. edwin can be bitingly accurate sometimes. yes, they'll need luck, but they're both innocent and inexperienced enough, i think, to complement each other well. i feel bad for the others, though, to endure their mushy attitudes as things heat up (and when i say heat up regarding these two LGs, i mean hand holding and surruptitious glances  )

thanks for reading!
another chapter, another step into madness...
enjoy
I always do.
“Haer’Dalis,” Tybalt said quickly, before his nerve left him. “Haer’Dalis, you told Raelis you still had business here that lay unfinished. What…?” He dropped off, conscious of how prying this seemed for a perfect stranger to ask.
yes that would be interesting to find out exactly what Hear’s motivations are.
I wonder if Tybalt considers himself to be broken. True such a statement could be about Aerie but somehow I doubt it.
Not sure about this….A good knight is never without his sword.

Nice and creepy. A metaphor for a lack of knowledge perhaps?
“They are all gone,” someone said from behind him. Shadow and pain echoed in the voice and he felt a coldness enter his heart. He turned but saw nothing. “You have been abandoned. No one even remembers your name.”
Or they were never here, subtle difference.
“A better question would be to ask who you are,” the voice responded coldly.

Tybalt had no answer.
a loss of identity, very nice idea. :P
“An upstart!” the voice roared. The ground shook and bookcases toppled into clouds of dust as the world burst. From the darkness at the end of the room, two glowing eyes opened and stared at him. “I have been watching you, brat, and am not impressed. How does something so insignificant live for so long? It can’t be your will; I have seen you falter and give up countless times. Your comrades? They would as soon lock you up as be near you.”
The Lord of Murder is no stranger to lies, if Tybalt were really insignificant why is Daddy watching?
Tybalt thought of Jaheira’s increased frustration with him and Valygar’s occasional looks of fear now that he knew of the Bhaalspawn’s origins. The others acted little better. Ajantis couldn’t even remain in the same room as him.
nothing like a little self persecution and a bit of doubt.
But someone hadn’t treated him like this. “Haer’Dalis-” he began hopefully.
The most questionable of the lot…
“Do you think the tiefling cares about you?” the voice behind the glowing eyes mocked. “He is as damned as you, or hasn’t he told you? He carried the blood of a demon in his veins, much as you do. He finds a common spirit in you, another tortured soul to feed upon. Or were you hoping there was something more?” The voice took on a disgusted tone and Tybalt stepped back involuntarily. [/qutoe] I wonder what Tybalt was actually hoping for, and will he even try to peruse it now?
“Who are you?” Tybalt asked again with a hint of understanding. He hoped he was wrong.

“You know very well who I am,” the voice snarled. “You have been fighting me from the moment we met.”

“Father,” Tybalt whispered, dropping to his knees.
Never ask questions when you don’t want to hear the answers.

Save him from what exactly? It seems Daddy is the main thing our hero needs saving from.
Not an offer any sane person would relish. But as you pointed out sanity may not by Tybalt’s most salient feature.

Please forgive me but when I read this a horrible mental picture entered my brain and it refuses to leave.

I clearly see Jaheira leaning out of that window, she is wearing a fuzzy blue bathrobe, a green facial mask and her hair is done up in huge pink curlers.

I had to stop reading for a few minutes to collect myself.
Ajantis turned away glumly. He had escaped relatively unharmed from the druid, but he hadn’t seen any sign of Aerie.
Jaheira is not a morning person.
“Aerie,” Ajantis threw caution to the wind and grabbed her small hands in his. Helm had sent him this one chance to confess his admiration, and he planned on taking it. “I realize I have only known you for a short time, but believe me when I say that I have thought of little else since that first meeting. Lady Aerie, may I have the honor of courting you?” He gazed earnestly into her eyes.
What is it with Paladins and frail helpless damsels? :)
Ajantis touched his cheek and smiled. Only good things could come from his joining this party.
Ajantis obviously hasn’t read all of the script yet. :)

With time, I may yet be able to mend its wings and see it fly again. I haven’t the slightest idea how the tale will end, but I promise that you will be the first to know. Now, goodnight, my raven. May you dream of flight.” He went up the stairs slowly.

And ajantis and haer is about clash.

Haer was always a loser.

“Who are you?” Tybalt asked again with a hint of understanding. He hoped he was wrong.

Himself!

“I killed Sarevok,” Tybalt pointed out icily, recovering his senses and his nerves. “And like him, you’re dead.”

Good point.

 Jaheira has no interest in other peoples love affairs, especially not when it disturbs her sleep.

They sat at the table Tybalt and Haer’Dalis had left scant minutes ago. “I heard you talking to Jaheira and slipped out while she was distracted,” Aerie explained with a giggle. “I made the pillows look like I was sleeping in case Jaheira checked,” she laughed.

Clever girl, mommy jaheira wouldn't have let her otherwise.

Eh? What is she up to?

“It’s late,” she repeated. “I should go to bed.”

“I will escort you there,” Ajantis said proudly, then realized the implication. “Only to the door, I mean. Then I, too, will go to my own room-”

He's afraid that there's a jaheira shaped dragon waiting for him in there. :P

I always do.

i'm glad to hear that :)

Quote:
“Haer’Dalis,” Tybalt said quickly, before his nerve left him. “Haer’Dalis, you told Raelis you still had business here that lay unfinished. What…?” He dropped off, conscious of how prying this seemed for a perfect stranger to ask.

yes that would be interesting to find out exactly what Hear’s motivations are.

i don't think anyone will ever truly understand the tiefling's mind, but we can make some pretty good general assumptions...

Quote:
“My business?” Haer’Dalis asked with a twinkle in his eye. “I have had the most remarkable good fortune to discover a wounded bird fallen from its nest. With time, I may yet be able to mend its wings and see it fly again. I haven’t the slightest idea how the tale will end, but I promise that you will be the first to know. Now, goodnight, my raven. I wonder if Tybalt considers himself to be broken. True such a statement could be about Aerie but somehow I doubt it.

whether he actively thinks it or not, Haer apparently does. i doubt tybalt would be pleased to be thought of as broken, but haer could convince him to embrace his identity

Quote:
Tybalt sat for a moment, dwelling on the bard’s answer. “A wounded bird?” he wondered aloud. Shaking his head, he followed the bard’s trail and stepped into the room he and Ajantis shared to discover the paladin gone. He casually wondered where the man had gone, but his armor and sword rested by the bed, so there did not seem to be any threat.

Not sure about this….A good knight is never without his sword.

;) Ajantis has more pressing concerns which require as much gentleness from him as possible

Quote:
He woke to discover himself in Candlekeep once more, but this Candlekeep was not the citadel he remembered from childhood. Shelf after shelf lay empty around him and all the furniture held a thick layer of dust. Nothing moved, and nothing living was in sight.

He spun in a circle to ensure he was alone. Not a sound reached him, his senses detected no other.

Nice and creepy. A metaphor for a lack of knowledge perhaps?

true, plus his complete detachment from what's real. his soul places him at a distance from everyone and everything

Quote:
“They are all gone,” someone said from behind him. Shadow and pain echoed in the voice and he felt a coldness enter his heart. He turned but saw nothing. “You have been abandoned. No one even remembers your name.”

Or they were never here, subtle difference.

bhaal has the upperhand in the dream, so what he says, goes. tybalt's going to have a hard time distinguishing the real from the imagined

Quote:
“A better question would be to ask who you are,” the voice responded coldly.

Tybalt had no answer.

a loss of identity, very nice idea.

he's going through so many changes right now, i'm sure i'd be lost in his position :)

Quote:
“An upstart!” the voice roared. The ground shook and bookcases toppled into clouds of dust as the world burst. From the darkness at the end of the room, two glowing eyes opened and stared at him. “I have been watching you, brat, and am not impressed. There are thousands stronger than you, cleverer than you, more influential than you. Yet you manage to survive, even flourish, while others wither and die. How does something so insignificant live for so long? It can’t be your will; I have seen you falter and give up countless times. Your comrades? They would as soon lock you up as be near you.”

The Lord of Murder is no stranger to lies, if Tybalt were really insignificant why is Daddy watching?

hehe, exactly

Quote:
Tybalt thought of Jaheira’s increased frustration with him and Valygar’s occasional looks of fear now that he knew of the Bhaalspawn’s origins. The others acted little better. Ajantis couldn’t even remain in the same room as him.

nothing like a little self persecution and a bit of doubt.

doubt will be the key, i think. turn him against his friends and he's halfway gone

Quote:
But someone hadn’t treated him like this. “Haer’Dalis-” he began hopefully.

The most questionable of the lot…

the newest and most mysterious (barring Yoshi) and yet haer already has the advantage over tybalt's feelings

I wonder what Tybalt was actually hoping for, and will he even try to peruse it now?

you'll have to wait to see...

Quote:
“Who are you?” Tybalt asked again with a hint of understanding. He hoped he was wrong.

“You know very well who I am,” the voice snarled. “You have been fighting me from the moment we met.”

“Father,” Tybalt whispered, dropping to his knees.

Never ask questions when you don’t want to hear the answers.

ah, but he must face his fears if he's to become stronger. whether he does or not is debateable, of course

Quote:

The figure laughed deeply, tumbling the world into chaos until he stopped. “You do have some fire. That will not save you, though. Only I can save you.”

“Save me from what?” Tybalt demanded. A trickle of blood had begun to leak from his nose as his father laughed but he ignored it.

“From your fate. To die at one of your brother’s or sister’s hands. Inevitable, no matter how long your luck holds out. You will die.”

Save him from what exactly? It seems Daddy is the main thing our hero needs saving from.

poor tybalt, beset from his entire family. a reunion wouldn't be pleasant, i'm sure :)

Quote:
“It is possible, my son. You can be the last one, the one to bring me back. But you must control yourself to do so; you are of no use to either of us if you die. You have become reckless, thrusting yourself into danger willingly. But that will not end the pain. Nothing can end the pain. Live. Live and become something more. This is the only choice, and you know it.” Bhaal receded back into the darkness and the world spun away. This time, though, Tybalt mercifully fell into peaceful slumber.

Not an offer any sane person would relish. But as you pointed out sanity may not by Tybalt’s most salient feature.

true. right now he knows enough to resist his father, but if things get worse, he might not take the best actions.

Quote:

:)
she no doubt has some herbal facial mask she could use, though i'm not sure about the rollers. if that's what she's wearing, what's aerie got on? :D

Quote:
Ajantis turned away glumly. He had escaped relatively unharmed from the druid, but he hadn’t seen any sign of Aerie.

Jaheira is not a morning person.

what makes you say that? she's not a woken-up-in-the-middle-of-the-night person, true, but most people would be cranky then. she's crankier than most, of course

Quote:
“Aerie,” Ajantis threw caution to the wind and grabbed her small hands in his. Helm had sent him this one chance to confess his admiration, and he planned on taking it. “I realize I have only known you for a short time, but believe me when I say that I have thought of little else since that first meeting. You are a phantom that no amount of meditation can dispel, nor would I want to banish you if I could. I had to let you know lest this secret drive me mad. Lady Aerie, may I have the honor of courting you?” He gazed earnestly into her eyes.

What is it with Paladins and frail helpless damsels?

they're something to protect from evil

Quote:
Ajantis touched his cheek and smiled. Only good things could come from his joining this party.

Ajantis obviously hasn’t read all of the script yet.

hehe. ppor guy. all he wants is to fight evil, not knowing a great evil travels with him. he'll learn eventually, the hardway.

thanks for reading!

haer's about clash with anyone, really, but he won't necessarily come into direct conflict with ajantis, at least not for the reason you think

i wonder how this would have gone had it been valygar instead. oh wait, probably much the same :)

J: What was that?
V:I said sweet dreams!

“You have the skill of storytelling in you, Tybalt, I can tell,” the bard smiled. “You have kept me till the darkest of night to hear your tales, yet I yearn for more.

Speaking of which, it's 4 bloody AM here and I just finished going through the archives reading through your story. If you feel bad tomorrow that'll mean my profound yet dead-tired cursing of you and your story will have an effect.

Nice twist here. Tybalt is even more troubled then Aeire in many ways.

“They are all gone,” someone said from behind him. Shadow and pain echoed in the voice and he felt a coldness enter his heart. He turned but saw nothing. “You have been abandoned. No one even remembers your name.”

I REALLY like your Bhaal. I found myself speaking his text aloud in a cold, low voice. Really nice dream.

Touche... but it's just the result that counts eh?

Tsk, tsk, tsk... Not just the God of Murder but homophobic too. I guess he really IS evil. (oh BTW, shouldn't carried be carries?)

“Father,” Tybalt whispered, dropping to his knees.

No wisecracking defiance here.... I LIKE it.

The figure laughed deeply, tumbling the world into chaos until he stopped. “You do have some fire. That will not save you, though. Only I can save you.”

And I also like how the surroundings adapt to him. makes it scarier. (especially at 4 AM)

Ka-DENG... Aerie takes the initiative.

Foot, meet mouth, mouth, meet foot.

oooooh-kay. Why don't you just go look for Beshaba and slap her in the face, cause you're BEGGING for bad luck to find you here.

Anyway, let me just say that I LOVE what you're doing with the story. Dark twists, Bhaal is a serious contender and sometimes, the good guys die. I'll be looking forward to the next part.

oh yeah. she's got nothing on him, heh. granted, everyone in the group has issues, which compells them to follow the tormented bhaalspawn

i'm sure bhaal has many bad qualities, but anything concerning tybalt would disgust him, regardless of his opinions. i think he hates that tybalt is his best chance of rebirth (if things follow ToB storyline). and yeah, thanks for the typo check!

a god, dead or not, would be hard to resist, i think. the pc bhaalspawn always seems to have his/her stuff together more than a normal person, while tybalt has more than his share of problems to make him the same level as normal mortals

she knows what she wants and goes for it--a change from her in game persona but i'm making her start off initially stronger and continue to gain confidence as the story goes on

hehe, he doesn't have the complete social graces any "good" knight should know, plus he hasn't had much experience dealing with women besides other knights, so he's bound to make many mistakes. luckily, Aerie isn't the type to mock him for it.

lol. expect more death, sadness, destruction, and the like before it's over (heck, before ToB!). bhaal will have a much stronger influence here than the game, as he should really be the central villain, present in the world or not, this is abot tybalt's journey of self-discovery, and who would hold the most importance over him than his divine father?

i'm glad you're enjoying the story, i'll have another part up soon.
