I would like to apologise beforehand for the countless grammer and spelling mistakes. I have managed to find and correct a few of them but I have no doubt missed quit a few.

I hope you enjoy reading this. All comments are welcome.

Chapter Six: The Drow and The Druid

Khalid looked up as he heard the sound of approaching footsteps, He saw Leen coming towards him but she wasn’t alone.

A female of small size accompanied her, she was wearing studded leather armour and a helmet that completely covered her face, it did however, have slits for her nose and eyes.

Upon closer inspection, Khalid noticed that the skin that was visible was black. Also her white hair was slightly visible.

However, Khalid didn’t have much time to think on this. Just as the stranger’s appearance had registered, Leen had reached Khalid’s table.

Instead of taking a seat, she bent down beside him and whispered. “I need to talk to you and Jaheira. Not here though, somewhere private.”

Khalid looked at her, but before he could reply Jaheira appeared by Leen’s side.

“Where have you been?” She demanded.

“Well I went for a walk.” Leen replied hesitantly.

“Without informing either myself or Khalid first. What were you thinking?” She asked sharply.

“I thought you was the leader of this group Leen. So why do you allow this tree hugger to speak to you in such a fashion?” Viconia said.

Jaheira’s gaze quickly fell on the stranger, “Who are you?” she demanded.

“That doesn’t concern you…” Viconia began her reply but was cut off by Leen, “Can’t we go somewhere more private for this conversation.” She begged.

“I agree with Leen.” Khalid said as he stood up and began to make his way to the stairs.

Viconia and Jaheira glared at each other for a moment but with a little more persuading from Leen, they eventually made their way over to the stairs.

****************************

Leen and her four companions now stood in the room that Leen had rented for herself. Leen was standing by the window. Khalid had taken a position by the door. Imoen had sat down on Leen’s bed and had started to read her spell book.

Viconia and Jaheira were standing in the middle of the room, eyes locked on each other. An expression of obvious dislike was on Jaheira’s face, Leen couldn’t see Viconia’s face but she was sure that she was wearing a similar expression.

“Who is this woman Leen?” Jaheira asked through clenched teeth.

“My name is Viconia deVir.” Viconia replied before Leen could answer the question.

“I wasn’t talking to you.”

Viconia smirked, “I know tree hugger, but I would appreciate it if all your questions about me were directed to me.”

“Ok Viconia.” Jaheira said, still glaring at her. “What are you doing here?”

“I was being chased by a Flaming Fist and your friend here,” she began, turning to look at Leen, “most kindly intervened, saving my life.”

Jaheira looked suspiciously at Viconia now, “You were being chased by a Flaming Fist? Why?”

Viconia didn’t say a word. She simply removed her helmet, allowing everyone to see her face.

“A…a Drow.” Khalid stuttered, “I knew it.”

The Drow looked at him with an expression of amusement shown clearly on her face, “Did you?” she asked, mimicking Khalid’s stutter.

Anger flashed through the eye’s of Khalid and Jaheira but before either of them could say anything, Leen decided that it was time for her to take a more active roll in this conversation.

“Viconia, if you wish to travel with us, then you must learn to be less hostile.”

“Travel with us!” Jaheira shouted, “You cannot be serious!”

“Why do you ask?” Viconia said in a teasing voice, “Is the little tree hugging mongrel scared to travel with the scary Drow?”

The look on Jaheira’s face turned to pure loathing and anger.

“Viconia!” Leen shouted, surprising everyone in the room. “You will stop insulting my companions! Understand!”

Imoen had put her spell book down, she had been following the argument for several minutes now, moving her head back and forth as Jaheira and Viconia exchanged insults.

Khalid was still standing by the door. Unknowingly he had placed his hand on the hilt of his long sword.

“Well, fearless leader, I must say that I am impressed. I didn’t think you were capable of such an outburst.” Viconia said, a smile spreading across her face.

“Leen, I urge you to rethink your decision. This woman is a Drow and no doubt she is dangerous. You cannot trust her.” Jaheira said adopting a concerned voice as she moved closer to Leen.

Leen thought for a moment, “She is a pretty capable cleric and our group is lacking a cleric.” When she saw that Jaheira was about to speak once again she added, “I know your druid spells will be able to see to our healing needs but we cant be to careful. Also with Viconia in our party, we can make more use of your abilities as a fighter.”

Jaheira nodded, indicating that she understood, “Very well Leen, it is your choice.”

“I thank you Leen, there aren’t many that would give me such a chance.” Viconia said, with gratitude in her voice.
Leen smiled and blushed slightly.

“We must make haste to Nashkell, we still have to solve the trouble they are having down there.” Jaheira said, to ease the tension.

“Right, we get there by heading south and passing through Beregost, don’t we?” Leen asked.

Jaheira nodded to show that was correct.

“We are also going to need a wizard as well.”

“No we don’t,” Imoen said, jumping up from Leen’s bed. “I’m the groups wizard now.” She said, almost jumping up and down with excitement.

“Wow! That’s great Imoen.” Leen said.

“We should get moving now.” Jaheira suggested.

“Right.” Leen said, making her way towards the door. “Beregost here we come.”

Well, you have been getting much better with stomping out those mistakes, got to hand it to you.

“Well I went for a walk.” Leen replied hesitantly.

“Without informing either myself or Khalid first. What were you thinking?” She asked sharply.

That's Jaheira, but sneaking out alone, in the middle of the night when the country side is roaming with bandits *is* very reckless.

Jaheira looked suspiciously at Viconia now, “You were being chased by a Flaming Fist? Why?”

Viconia didn’t say a word. She simply removed her helmet, allowing everyone to see her face.

Yep, that's a pretty good answer.

That's a good explanation and something that Jaheira won't protest much against.

Of course, if my protagonist would have to make choice between Jaheira or Viconia, he would pick Jaheira without much thinking. Though I like to have Vic in the party as I like her, they actually have a lot in common with Jaheira as both are strong, proud, opinionated and very independant. Hope they will learn to get along with each other, eventually.

Well she had just found that she was responcible for Gorion's death and that she has a bounty on her head. So it is understandable.

Sure is.

I know, if you have Jaheira in your party when you meet Viconia in BG2, she does say that she has no objectation to her joining the group.

Yeah hey do have alot in common, maybe thats why they dont get alone. I like the way you showed their struggle for dominance(sp) in the Drow city.

Just watch the fireworks when Jaheira finds out. :)

“I thought you was the leader of this group Leen. So why do you allow this tree hugger to speak to you in such a fashion?” Viconia said.

*snicker*

LOL! Just as I expected Jaheira to say. :D

Whoa, putting her foot down here...

LOL! That's a shocker. Though a bit of an explaination, or somewhat more reactions of the party to this sudden change could have been included, imo.

“Wow! That’s great Imoen.” Leen said.

I think Viconia does it on purpose, maybe to see how long it will take Jaheira to really lose it.

I didn't think the rest of the party would have a reaction to it. Jaheira and Khalid already knew that I think that Viconia wouldn't really care.
