okay, I'll just post a short bit since the others have been on the long side recently. enjoy!

Yoshimo lead the way to a small house in a dark alley of the dockyard. Minsc, Aerie, and Xan walked cautiously behind, sending wary glances around the shadows. They had already been attacked several times by gangs of thugs, and it was Minsc’s bellows of rage and Yoshimo’s silent arrows which had scared off further attacks. The mages kept their spell power in reserve for their destination: Rayic Gethras’ home. The dastardly Mae’Var had sent the team to kill the nosy Cowled Wizard after Yoshimo had handed him some sort of trinket, stolen no doubt.

“I still don’t like this,” Aerie stated plainly. “I don’t trust Mae’Var or anything he wants us to do. This wizard is probably trying to help Athkatla by getting rid of that evil guild.”

Xan sighed, having heard this argument many times. “No one in the docks is going to be a shiny force of good, you ninny. Everyone here has something to hide and enemies to hide from. This Gethras was probably sent here due to some failure for the Cowled Wizards. They sent him to the most dangerous part of the city as punishment. A good way of getting rid of incompetence.”

Aerie stared at the other elf in shock and outrage. “How can you think such things?” she asked in a higher-pitched voice than normal. “Is everything in the world so dark and hopeless to you?”

“You have no idea,” Xan replied.

Yoshimo lifted a hand in warning and the elves stopped their bickering. “I will take a closer look,” the thief whispered before slipping away.

The three waited expectantly, occasionally looking back into the rough gloom surrounding them. Aerie and Xan jumped as Yoshimo’s voice seemed to whisper from their backs, but Minsc smiled indulgently. “Boo, you have gotten very good at throwing your voice. Now be little Aerie!”

“Ah, Minsc,” Yoshimo tried.

“No, you’re still sneaky foreign man. Aerie is much higher pitched.”

“Minsc, it is Yoshimo.” The bounty hunter, slightly irritated at having to abandon his concealment, stepped into the dim light. “I took a look around the house. There are some mephits on the first floor, several golems on the next, and the wizard is alone on the top floor. I suggest that we secure each level before attempting the next. Lady Aerie, Xan, you should stay behind until we reach the wizard as he will be the true challenge. Are we ready?”

Minsc charged the surprised mephits with a war cry, allowing Yoshimo to avoid detection and sneak attack the unwary critters. Xan and Aerie batted away stray creatures, Aerie with a staff and Xan with his moonblade. Soon the floor was littered with tiny bodies while the party was relatively unharmed.

“That was too easy,” Xan surmised. “Our overconfidence will be our downfall.”

“Oh, stop being so negative all the time!” Aerie rebuked lightly. “You should be happy that no one was hurt instead of thinking the worst. Honestly, how have you lived this way for so long?” She crossed her small arms and attempted to look authoritative, managing admirably well, though coming nowhere close to Jaheira’s ability.

The mage shrugged without comment, and Aerie hoped that her words would have some impact on him.

They continued to the stairs, where two stone golems awaited them. They were prepared from the sound of fighting below, and thus had chance to deliver a grievous blow to Minsc as his head popped into view.

“Yeowch!” he cried before tumbling backward, managing to land on everyone on his way down. The four lay in a tangled heap, surrounded by dead mephits. The golems began to descend in search of their prey.

Aerie squealed and tried to push Yoshimo off of her, but he was in turn pinned down by the unconscious giant. “I c-can’t breathe!” she gasped.

“Imagine how I feel,” Xan muttered beneath her.

They shoved Minsc to the side just as the first golem reached the floor. A lethal fist crashed into the floor where Yoshimo had been seconds before. The bounty hunter stabbed his katana into the construct’s neck but succeeded in only snapping the blade. “I hit, to no effect?” he cried as he mournfully gazed at the blade.

Xan got in a lucky swing at the golem’s leg, spreading blue flame to its torso. The beast toppled over, hurt but not incapacitated. Xan swung a few more times at the beast until it stopped moving. “That’s never happened before,” he marveled.

Meanwhile, Aerie had cast magic missiles at the second creature whilst Yoshimo tried to rouse Minsc. The golem had slowed but continued its trek when Minsc shook his head and woozily stood. “Nasty stone tries to crack Minsc like egg?” he yelled before dashing to the golem and quickly dispatching it.

“See, Xan?” Aerie panted. “Think positively and things will work out.”

“This is honestly the first time I can say I’m disappointed to correct you,” Xan replied, pointing to the stairs. Rayic Gethras stood watching the group, a fierce frown on his face.

“I still don’t like this,” Aerie stated plainly. “I don’t trust Mae’Var or anything he wants us to do. This wizard is probably trying to help Athkatla by getting rid of that evil guild.”

Eh... how naive can you get? I actually think it is the other way around... the Cowled Wizards are far worse tyrants than the Shadow Thieves, imho... :(

Xan is incredibly wise, that's for sure :(

Aerie stared at the other elf in shock and outrage. “How can you think such things?” she asked in a higher-pitched voice than normal. “Is everything in the world so dark and hopeless to you?”

Well, I fail to understand how can she remain so sweet and cheerful, having spent so long in a cage and having her wings forcefully removed. It's weird to say the least...

Wow, it wasn't that easy in the game! :D

“That was too easy,” Xan surmised. “Our overconfidence will be our downfall.”

It always is the downfall of the villains, actually :)

“Yeowch!” he cried before tumbling backward, managing to land on everyone on his way down. The four lay in a tangled heap, surrounded by dead mephits. The golems began to descend in search of their prey.

Uh-Oh... :?

Aerie squealed and tried to push Yoshimo off of her, but he was in turn pinned down by the unconscious giant. “I c-can’t breathe!” she gasped.

Good!

Good! I was afraid that Aerie might just convert Xan to become sweet and cheerful... I love him for the grim pessimist he is... :P

Nothing wrong with long. But I suppose shorter chapters are easier for people to digest.

The dastardly Mae’Var had sent the team to kill the nosy Cowled Wizard after Yoshimo had handed him some sort of trinket, stolen no doubt.

Poor Mae'Var. Is he really so dastardly? Perhaps he just has unhappy realtions at home so he vents his frustrations at work. Or may be I just try too hard to see the good in people.

“I still don’t like this,” Aerie stated plainly. “I don’t trust Mae’Var or anything he wants us to do. This wizard is probably trying to help Athkatla by getting rid of that evil guild.”

Strangely bold of her. Normally unless Aerie feels very strongly about something she's more likely to express her thoughts as questions and opinions rather than statements.

So, why was Xan sent by the elves of Evereska to investigate that iron shortage, and without an escort?

Aerie stared at the other elf in shock and outrage. “How can you think such things?” she asked in a higher-pitched voice than normal. “Is everything in the world so dark and hopeless to you?”

Cheery carnival optimism. But she has to believe that there is goodness and hope in the world because of all the bad things that have happened to her. She'd go mad otherwise.

“You have no idea,” Xan replied.

Existentialist.

Yoshimo lifted a hand in warning and the elves stopped their bickering. “I will take a closer look,” the thief whispered before slipping away.

“Ah, Minsc,” Yoshimo tried.

“No, you’re still sneaky foreign man. Aerie is much higher pitched.”

“Minsc, it is Yoshimo.”

I really need a coffee, as it actually took me a few seconds to realise what was going on here. Good old Minsc, I love the way he gets mixed up and doesn't understand sometimes.

“See, Xan?” Aerie panted. “Think positively and things will work out.”

“This is honestly the first time I can say I’m disappointed to correct you,” Xan replied, pointing to the stairs. Rayic Gethras stood watching the group, a fierce frown on his face.

Ah, they have won the grand prize. A trip to oblivion... wait.... mu... muaa... ah, you know what evil laughter sounds like.

Well, he's being gloomy again... :)

Aerie stared at the other elf in shock and outrage. “How can you think such things?” she asked in a higher-pitched voice than normal. “Is everything in the world so dark and hopeless to you?”

*snort*

“No, you’re still sneaky foreign man. Aerie is much higher pitched.”

...

Wow, that's an argument too, I suppose...

“Oh, stop being so negative all the time!” Aerie rebuked lightly. “You should be happy that no one was hurt instead of thinking the worst. Situation is running tense. Let's hope some elf doesn't flip and kills everybody. :?:

Aerie squealed and tried to push Yoshimo off of her, but he was in turn pinned down by the unconscious giant. “I c-can’t breathe!” she gasped.

It is awfully suspicous.

But that dosn't make him a criminal.

GO AERIE! :D

headbangin'!

“Imagine how I feel,” Xan muttered beneath her.

  Made me laugh.

Stating the obvious.

Don't worry, be happy. :)
