Bethphel's Diary

...and an official announcement

It is not with a light heart that I have to announce that the Attic's hostess, Jeanie D'Jinni, is no longer with us. Her photo to the left is still gracing our site as a homage to her valuable contribution, but it will be removed in the future quizzes. Which we hope will come... to which purpose I'm making the following announcement.

HEAR YE! HEAR YE!

We're looking for a new host(ess) for the Attic! If you think you could do it, or if you can recommend someone, by all means tell us. Email Leo at l.korogodski@verizon.net, but you're also welcome to post here.

To remind, the Attic features weekly (sometimes biweekly) roleplay quizzes about roleplaying games in general, as well as such games as Baldur's Gate II: Shadows of Amn in particular. Historically, it was more about BG2, and while D'Jinni was trying to open more general subjects, she didn't finish the job. Care to try and continue?!

* * *

In the meantime, to keep you folks occupied, here is the new subject. Those of you who're keeping in touch with Bethphel's Diary know me well, for I am the author. What started as an attempt for a roleplay BG walkthrough quickly turned into a de facto unofficial Baldur's Gate online novel.

Quite a serious undertaking, if you ask me. Eats lots of my time, but I hope the enjoyment its readers are getting is worth it! :( Bethphel's Diary is also one of the reasons why I cannot be an Attic host myself (again, no time!). And that is why, at this time when D'Jinni has left us, Bethphel's Diary is what I'd like to talk to you about.

What do you think about the novel? If you read it... and if you didn't, by all means, you're welcome to come and enjoy it! I know, BG2 has been already released, and the Diary's plot is still at the entrance to the Durlag's Tower. But then, there is not much left and the remaining eight chapters should follow at a faster pace. A BG2 sequel to Bethphel's Diary is also in the works.

To be honest, I'm planning for it to be a complete surprise. Yes, the ending of the Diary will not be quite like the ending of the game of Baldur's Gate. Consequently, the beginning of the Diary's BG2 sequel might raise quite a few eyebrows of the veteran BG2 players.

At the moment, though, Bethphel is full of vengeance and ready to pursue Eldoth the traitor to the ends of the world. The first stop being the Durlag's Tower. Somehow, she ended up with none of her former companions. Who do you think would rejoin her cause? Can you predict which party will enter the gates of the Durlag's Tower?

This question is not the only one I'd like to be addressed here. Any opinions are welcome, in fact...

Leo
