Strange Girl's first CRPG was Ultima Underworld, which kindled her interest in the genre enough to want more of the same. Afterwards she has played many games of the sort, but BGII is the first one she has written stories about.
When she isn't glued to a computer, either at home or at the college where she's studying to be an engineer, you can find her enjoying the outdoors in the area she lives, or hibernating in the apartment she shares with her very, very patient husband and a few uninvited spiders.
Visiting Another World
Sometimes, playing a good RPG feels like entering another world. A world where we have the opportunity to become someone else, and do things that would be impossible (or dangerous, or illegal, or plain stupid) in real life. This is one of the reasons why many of us enjoy RPGs so much, it gives us a chance to escape reality for a short while. Yes, daydreaming about adventuring in worlds filled with magic and mysteries is fun, but what if we had to enter these worlds for real?
Try to imagine what would happen if a person from our realm had to physically partake in the adventures of the BG series, going through the games as his, or her self.
What if you had to replace your PC? How would you deal with suddenly being thrown into the violent events of the games? Would you fight, try to talk your way out of it, or would you run away and hide? What kind of skills would you have? How would the NPCs react to the situation, and what would your interaction with them be like?
Alternatively, bring your PC or one of the NPCs into our world to see what happens. How do they adapt to our way of life? Will they turn into couch potatoes or will they go out and find new adventures in our world? What can their abilities be used for here? Could Jan still sell turnip? Should Nalia become a social worker? And would Cernd like to be a member of Greenpeace? You decide.
