> Ah, she won't bother me then!

LOL!

>> Gosh, she's fast I'll give her that :)

Maybe it was a *little* obvious. :D

> I wonder if Minsc ever met Xzar. They'd have made a good team.

Well, Xzar is hanging around the Docks District...they'll get their chance to chat.

> How ironic that Yoshi should be the next one to speak, after Rini says she

> sees enemies everywhere.

Isn't it? ;)

> (snort) Good thing Edwin isn't there, he'd be taking notes.

*grin* I don't think he needs to, he's got it already.

>> Oh, nice touch! Rini feels better when she has a chance to meet an idiot.

> Who does that remind me of?

I'd say both a certain wizard and a certain assassin. :D

>> Now that is certainly very true! I love the you you've got various

> characters saying things that are more true than they actually know.

Thanks! :) I love playing with double meanings.

> Ouch. I get the feeling she is thinking of Khalid here- all her hope is

> lost.

We'll get into Jaheira's head next chapter.

> Another double edged truth! Clever chapter, lots of half hidden meanings,

> very subtle!

Thanks very much! :)

> *drumroll* Yes, it's more Evil Aerie! Don't go to close to the bars, she's

> already sucked out and devoured two brains today, but I'm sure she's

> hungry for more...

Hmmm, Evil Aerie could be like 'The Thing', in that respect. ;)

> That's no ordinary woman , Zaerini thought. I…think it's some sort of

> summoned construct. She looks quite a bit like Aerie too – I wonder what's

> up with that? She even has pointy ears. Clearly the Avariel had noticed

> that as well. Her eyes widened as she spotted the woman, becoming almost

> as empty as those of the construct, and for a moment her face resembled a

> blank canvas, waiting for an artist's brush to create a painting.

LOL! I bet she's angry... I would be. :)

> “Poor Aerie…” Minsc said, a pair of honest tears rolling down his cheeks.

> “That the innocent and good should be treated so, and be kept chained up

> by evil gnomes…it makes Minsc so angry ! And when Minsc gets angry, Boo

> gets angry! And when Boo gets angry, EVIL GETS CHOPPED INTO TINY EVIL BITS

> BY HIS SHARP HAMSTER TEETH! RAARRRGGGH!”

*snort* Direct your anger to those who deserve it, Minsc. :D

> “Yes, yes, yes,” Rini hastily added, throwing herself at the berserker and

> clinging to his arm to keep him from drawing his sword. “But Kalah isn't

> here right now Minsc. Just calm down. Please? Before you hurt one of us by

> mistake? Boo wouldn't want that, would he?”

> It was several tense moments before Minsc's breathing calmed and the red

> fire went out of his eyes, but then he suddenly smiled. “Little Rini is

> right as usual, Minsc and Boo must save their strength for the evil foes

> ahead, so they may protect their good friends. Minsc is sorry.”

You write Minsc so well.

> “Be thou not of impure heart or thou wilt surely destroy thyself. Kalah is

> the one Ruler, the One True Being.”

> “Really?” Rini said. “Sounds like he is also the One True Conceited Prat

> to me…”

LOL!

Vierna : Or the one true brainless idiot

Laska : Or the one true stemless chickenf...

ARibeth : *interrupts* Alright! No more Southpark for you, Las! :D

> As the bard started casting her spell, she could hear Aerie chant

> something in the background, murmuring so quietly that she couldn't make

> out the words. Then, a bright light flared up, bright enough to hurt her

> eyes, and when she looked again the werewolves were gone, vanished as if

> an illusionist after all. I should have guessed. With their stronger

> adventurers sat down on the fluffy pillows to get some needed rest. “That

> was quick thinking,” Rini told Aerie. “Well done.”

> The elf blushed prettily and looked down on her intertwined fingers. “I…I

> just th-thought that they might be illusions. So m-many things here are,

> and I…I know Kalah p-pretty well. I'm…I'm glad I could help.”

Oh, she is devious...

> “It…it is nothing, Minsc. I am only being…being weak and…and f-foolish.

> I'm sure it's very s-silly of me to still feel such pain when people…when

> they remind me of my…my beautiful white wings. It is only…only right that

> Minsc hovered uncertainly at her side, his enormous hand awkwardly patting

> her shoulder even as he was glaring at Yoshimo.

> “You made Aerie cry!” he said. “Minsc does not like that.”

Uh-oh. Evil Aerie's hook is baited. :)

> Amidst many a nervous smile and stutter, Aerie launched into her tale,

> with Minsc hanging devotedly on her every word. She spoke of her people,

> the Avariel who were winged elves living in a city high up in the

> mountain, far away, and of the joy of flying. Then she explained about how

> and explained that Quayle had bought her free, teaching her of his own

> God, Baervan Wildwanderer of the gnomes. “I…I still miss my poor wings,”

> she concluded. “But…but I miss Uncle Quayle too, I am s-so worried about

> “I know it is difficult, but try to hope,” Jaheira said. “He may yet live,

> “Oh no,” Aerie said with a small smile on her lips. “I…I know that. I…have

LOL! Good point. Or the aliens in 'Night of the Living Dead'.

> *snort* Direct your anger to those who deserve it, Minsc. :)

I'm sure he will...eventually.

> You write Minsc so well.

Thanks a lot! :) I adore Minsc.

Sadly, poor Minsc isn't well equipped for dealing with this sort of thing. :D

In that case, Borg should be perfectly safe.

Borg: I HEARD THAT!

Blunt as always, Rini.

Borg: I donnae see what's wrong with that.

The Wolf: *grins* Love the whole evil Aerie thing, just love it.

> “Y-yes,” Aerie said, her voice diminishing almost to a whisper. “But…but I

Good job, Rini :-)

> “Really?” Rini said. “Sounds like he is also the One True Conceited Prat

> to me…”

One point for Rini.

> The construct's face remained expressionless and her voice never trembled.

> “Kalah is beyond thy ken, mortal! He is the Beginning. He is the End. He

Make that two points.

LOL!

> That's much better, kitten. It's good to see you playing with your prey;

> it means you're feeling stronger again.

The Wolf: *grins* Softpaws, you are the most interesting cat I have ever met.

> “Yes…” Yoshimo said with a small smile, idly studying the blade of his

> Aerie flinched visibly as if she had been struck, turning away, and when

Oh dear, she's turned on the waterworks...look away! While you still can!

> Time to see Kalah...

Loved the story,

(especially the evil Aerie part),

Have I mentioned I really don't like her?

Well, see the movie if you have to, but READ THE BOOK FIRST! And if you tell me, afterwards, that the movie was better, I will shoot you, as you are obviously too stupid to live, and has failed to comprehend a masterwork by the best writer of social science fiction ever.

The book must be good then, since I quite enjoyed the movie in that it amused me greatly.

No! No! You're not supposed to laugh about Starship Troopers. The movie is nearly nothing like the book; it switches a character's gender just to have a meaningless sex scene in the middle, for one thing. The movie's funny, not comedy funny but laugh-at-how-bad-this-is funny, aimed at that 18-24 demographic (frontal nudity a damn big clue).

The book is NOT campyfunnystupidbad, but incisive social commentary and an engrossing read. It's fascinating work...definitely doesn't deserve to be sullied by the movie that bears its name.

> No! No! You're not supposed to laugh about Starship Troopers.

Sorry ;)

I thought it was a rather unique and hilarious mix of teenager soap opera and militaristic propaganda.

But I suppose I have to read the book then... I love social commentary and depth, and the movie certainly didn't have any.
