- "Catching up with old friends is considerably more complicated than it used to be these days," Sarevok said, smiling. "Even death seems to be such an everyday occurence."
- "Yes, well... I not exactly died in the Bhaal temple. Noticed it was hopeless, then played dead," Tazok admitted. He would have blushed, but the greenish color of his skin didn't show any difference.
- "Well... the relationship of Sarevok and me has improved mightily," Emilia smirked. "He learned a lot while visiting the Abyss... and I wouldn't be here if he didn't fight by my side."
Emilia's plaits were fastened with baby blue bows matching the flower and butterfly pattern of her cape. Tazok found it difficult to look at her directly.

- "I hear some say you are... good now," Tazok said suspiciously, looking sideways at Sarevok.
Sarevok made a face.
- "Good... how good can be a man who lets countless children die of whiplashes and starvation in a dank mine? Who thinks nothing of strangling his siblings of death, of machinating a war to slaughter thousands?"
- "Sarevok, we have been through this," Emilia said, looking at him with concern. "No use to dwell in the past, and you KNOW you were quite insane at the time."
- "Yes. I know. Tazok, I have dedicated my life to atonement. If that is good, then yes, I am good now," Sarevok said.
Tazok felt speechless. It was ridiculous. A person with Sarevok's magnetism and power, even tempered with his stay in the lower planes... would waste that potential with meaningless ruminations like this. He could be the greatest warlord ever, and instead he was after something like... atonement?

But something about Sarevok just disturbed Tazok's automatic response. He emanated such a purpose, such a meaning. Precisely what Tazok himself missed, what he had been contemplating just a moment ago.
- "What have you been up to lately, Tazok?" Emilia asked helpfully. "Last time I heard about you, you were on Firkraag's payroll. I thought it was merely a mistake... after all I was under the impression that you had died in the battle of Undercity."
- "What I been up to?" Tazok laughed mirthlessly. "Killing. Maiming. Murdering. Eating raw meat and getting drunk. What else?"
- "A bandit existence in all its beauty," Emilia nodded. "Happy? Everything fine? Loot in steady supply?"
- "I... just thought 'bout that when you came in. Am getting old, perhaps. Not such a pleasure as it once was."
The ogre was amazed that he was able to share his waverings with these figures of his past. But something about them put him off guard. They were so non-hostile, so determined to do their own thing. They just recognized his existence and didn't want to either destroy or use him.

There was a lull in the discussion, everyone sipping their drinks and contemplating.
- "What you two be doing nowadays? Traveling together as the rumor say, I see," Tazok said.
- "Indeed," Emilia answered. "We visited Kara-Tur and buried Tamoko."
- "That lass. Odd equipment but a good fighter she was," Tazok nodded.
- "Yes. She was," Sarevok said. His eyes were very sad.
- "You really defend Berdusk? From an attack of an orcish army?" Tazok asked, incredulously.
Sarevok nodded.
- "That I did. A small act of atonement..."
- "They say you just slip away, not take money or praise," Tazok continued, frowning ever deeper.
- "I have all the money I need, and I am not worthy of any praise," Sarevok said solemnly.
- "You are worthy of a lot of praise, brother," Emilia said.

- "Say... you want to be a guest of mine, visit my bandit camp?" Tazok felt reluctant to let them go. Their actions were unfathomable to him, but the emptiness and listlessness recently plaguing him seemed to ease by their presence. And then... he would want to take just a few more looks at Emilia. He never had had much time for women. He had had his share of hasty copulations, but those never did much for him. Emilia stirred something very unfamiliar inside of him...
- "I don't see why not," Emilia said, giving Sarevok a quizzical look.
Sarevok nodded.
- "We will accompany you, Tazok. Lead the way."
