Could we expect anything else?

Luckily he'll grow out of most of his pride, at least the destructive kind.

*pats Laufey on the shoulder* Don't worry, he has that effect on nearly everyone.

> See comments above...

Still in agreement.

> *sniff* Well, at least the poor man has *some* family left.

It's nice to know he has people who care about him, even though he forgets sometimes.

> Can I say once more how much I like your Keldorn? He's just perfect.

I like him, too.

> Oh, that was interesting, and adds realism to the story.

Thanks.

Hehehe, the Old and Unimproved isn't completely gone yet...

God's Mighty Anvil? Sorry, obscure TV reference.

> High praise indeed!

I always figured that by the end to the game people ought to be getting their children off the street when they see our PCs coming.

> *grins* Subbornness : A quality Anomen has in abundance...

No argument there.

> Heh, he's transmitting 'Pride'-rays all through Athkatla right now. ;)

A compliment from Grandma will do that.

> I'm guessing : Yep!

Hehehehe.

> Heh, she KNOWS! *grins*

Sirelle doesn't miss much.

> *grin* Nice family he has, ey? Except for that one Cor fellow, of

Of course.

You're too far north. If Blethyn was in Florida, he'd be heading for Key West, any time of year. That's where he'd find his particular sort of partying.

You'll get brain damage that way.

A pity Moirala hadn't had better taste.

It tore me up to leave him, that's for sure.

Oh, Adrian will be as nice as is possible for him. "You're better off this way, not distracted or worried about it, and able to focus on acheiving your goals." Something like that. And certain folks from To Prove His Worth will be around too....it's just a question of how, exactly, to kill Cor.

The road to the abyss may be paved with good intentions, but it is those with bad intentions that race down that road as fast as they can.

Hehehe, well of course in your story you can do whatever you like. I was thinking of the game. I don't know if you are like some of us here who play a game to go along with the story to make sure our memories of events are fresh. And sometimes things pop up that provide great inspiration. In the game, if you are callous to Anomen after he fails his test he'll attack you. Unfortunately if he's with you and you attack Cor, he'll defend his father (it's that love-hate thing they've got going). But in stories... hey, we can do what we want.

Yippee! Another episode of A Cappella. Hurrah! Was really looking forward to this installment in particular...and it's lived up to anticipation. Thank you!

> The Firecam home was brightly lit with hundreds of candles, and the sound

> of laughter rang through the halls. The revelers had been treated to good

> food and good drink

If I may ask (out of pedantry?), about how many guests attended? Was just sort of curious, since I thought his lack of popularity might've been emphasized during the Test chapter.

> Anomen had been repeatedly toasted, which he

> had received with a mixture of delight and embarrassment.

Nice to see him actually getting positive feedback...unlike at home... Time to wheel out the Cor piñata.

> He

> heard a low chuckle beside him and turned to see Lady Sirelle. Her eyes

> twinkled at him.

Professor Dumbledore? How you portray this OC throughout the chapter reminds me a lot of a lady Prof D.

> “And it is a pleasure to speak to you. I always enjoy meeting unusual

> people, it is the only thing that makes parties bearable.”

Really? Rather think myself that not attending them makes them even more bearable. *g*

> Jarran told her about the battle against Firkraag, politely pointing out

> Anomen's bravery, then told her a slightly edited version of the defeat of

> the beholder cult.

? If you don't mind my asking, why slightly edited?

> “If he would have allowed it, I would have sent Anomen to his squiring

> “He wouldn't take help from his own grandparents?”

> “Not a copper. I have a sneaking suspicion that by wandering the city in

> battered armor and threadbare clothes he hoped to shame his father into

> supporting him. Alas, Cor's hatred of the Order outweighed even that.”

Yee-haw! You done anticipated this question & answered it very plausibly.

> “He did that?” she gasped in shock. “I never would have dreamed he would

> go so far.”

> Silently Anomen wrapped her in his arms and hugged her. She held him as

> tightly as she could, and for a moment he felt like a little boy again,

> running to his grandmother with a skinned knee. He felt his throat tighten

> and knew he was on the verge of tears. But his grief was still too painful

> to acknowledge, and he fought to bring his emotions back under control.

> “So Marnus has inherited the title? How is Marnus?”

> “He and Amelera are doing well. She's expecting another child.”

> “Another? Marnus has been busy. I never received news of the second

> child.”

> “Oh, it was another son. Amelera is hoping for a girl this time.”

> “Give them both my best wishes when you see them next.

I love how you're letting us free space for speculation here. :-)

> “The same could be said for you, Sir Keldorn. I am especially impressed by

> your abilities as a teacher. Anomen has bloomed under your tutelage.”

> “I only did what I could to bring his qualities to the surface, my lady.

> He already possessed all the traits of a good knight, he merely needed the

> discipline to focus them.”

Warm and fuzzy time. :-)

> Jarran joined Anomen, who was standing by the fireplace with a wide grin

> on his face. “What is so amusing, my friend?”

It's nice that he has friends.

> Anomen just pointed, and Jarran followed the direction of his gaze. Lady

> Sirelle was on a sofa, looking like a porcelain doll next to Minsc. The

> two of them seemed to be having a serious discussion, one that was being

> listened to most intently by Boo, who was perched on Minsc's knee.

Lol!

> “Yes,” the bard said with a grin. “I will miss you, Keldorn, but I think

> Anomen will do quite well as your replacement as our resident knight.”

> Anomen blushed deeply. “You flatter me, Jarran. A man would have to serve

> many years to even approach Sir Keldorn's level. I… I will miss you as

> well, sir.”

Oh no! No Keldy. :) :D Bye! [waves]

> “Just remember that my home is open to you, should you ever need to speak

> to me.

Yay! Thx for leaving the door open...

> I consider you my friends, and I will be sorry to see all of you

> go. Well, all but Jan.”

Sez who that paladins can't get off one-liners? Keldorn da man!

As with Silrana's comment to me that the Order of the Radiant Heart, in a morally hostile environment, could go two ways, being rather tolerant and welcoming, in order to recruit all suitable men, or incredibly 'upright', prudish and intolerant, due to their sense of their moral superiority, I think the Thieves are the same.

Again, they aren't exactly legally part of Amn (that's a farce, their leader is on the Council, and their ranks would be interwined with local authorities in many places, they are organised crime after all). They could embrace homosexuality as illegal, or repress it as some kind of way of generating solidarity amongst their members. However, in my world, the Thieves as a group (and many of the leading individual thieves, although loyalty, secrecy and a code of honour would be highly prized I imagine) actually are more or less completely ruthless. If someone wants to use something against you and happens to see a way that your sexuality can be used against you, well, they would use it, although it isn't really something the organisation looks down on.

But it's not Oryal's sexual perferences per se, I guess, that I imagine being the problem, although I think it means he can't be like Renal and Aran, who can proudly and publically go through as many women as they please (although Renal will have his own problems with that...), it's more that he actually gets emotionally involved in his relationship(s), which is something the Thieves can use against him, for sure.

And now you have to wait and see, although I do like thinking out loud, as it were ;)

Most agreeable! My purges left many heretical Banites screaming while dieing a horrendous death. The Leirans were almost as enjoyable. But nothing compares to the whimpering of Helmites. They screech like little girls.

You're welcome. *grin*

Well, in the Test chapter Keldorn mentions that it will be a small number. I was thinking that in addition to the party and the characters named in the story, there would be roughly a dozen knights and squires, and some of them would have companions or wives. So the party wouldn't be very big.

>Nice to see him actually getting positive feedback...unlike at home... Time to wheel out the Cor piñata.

Yes, everyone's favorite target.

>Professor Dumbledore? How you portray this OC throughout

LOL! I think I was writing Sirelle as part Mary Sue of myself and part my favorite aunt.

>Really? Rather think myself that not attending them makes them even more bearable. *g*

But in polite society you can't always get out of them.

>? If you don't mind my asking, why slightly edited?

Would *you* go around advertising that you were a Bhaalspawn? Jarran just quietly 'overlooked' telling her things like the wrestling match with the rod and the agreement with Amaunator.

>Yee-haw! You done anticipated this question & answered it very plausibly.

I try.

>I love how you're letting us free space for speculation here. ;)

*grin* I have no idea what you're talking about.

>Warm and fuzzy time. ;)

Keldorn is a warm and fuzzy guy.

>It's nice that he has friends.

Heaven knows he needs some.

>Lol!

Even Boo is not immune to Sirelle's charms.

>Oh no! No Keldy. ;) ;) Bye! [waves]

Gone but not forgotten.

>Yay! Thx for leaving the door open...

Keldorn will wander through occasionally, don't worry.

>Sez who that paladins can't get off one-liners? Keldorn da man!

He sure is.

Oh, I've been meaning to mention... I don't know if other people have this problem, but the coding you are using to make your replies purple makes it a bit hard to reply to. You see, when I hit the Post Response button, your replies show up as one big paragraph, and I have to parse out the sentences. I have to run back and forth between your post and the reply box to figure out where comments begin or end. It might be because you are not putting any lines between the story lines and your reply. When the story lines are removed in the reply box, all your comments run together.

Um, whoops. ;) Was trying to make things easier, but it didn't quite work that way, eh? Lol, what's that saying about a road and good intentions?

Really didn't mean to impose like that -- and as a newbie too! Black and white it is. But I wonder...if I add a few convenient html "br" tags -- nyet!

But thank you for letting me know. Sincerely, I did not know I was creating difficulties, and am grateful for your feedback so I won't be unintentionally inconsiderate again...or at least not in this way. ;)

There is a possibility that it isn't the color coding, it's the spacing. If you look at your post, your reply starts immediately after the story lines, with no break in between. Maybe you just need to put what us oldtimers who remember typewriters call a carriage return in between. In other words, using the return or enter key to create a blank line. Maybe try that next time with the color, and see if that fixes it. I hate to stifle creativity unless it's absolutely necessary.

"Us oldtimers," eh? Lol, I gots me a manual one (where you've got to create your own exclamation points.>

Creativity? You're way too generous. ;) I plod. What all y'all do is creative.

Okay, so let me see if "br" works here...

Nyet, I see what you mean. It still runs together. Well, muted lilac and black look darned spiffy together too...and I don't feel stifled either.

Thank you though for putting up w/ my inept attempts there though. What did Nalia say again after the Aunt encounter? Appropos here. ;)

Umm maybe its just me but that last post looked perfectly fine. And you don't need to use the page break html code, enter works just fine ;)

Yeah. Don't ask me how the Order survives in that corrupt cesspool of a city. If I was a paladin in Amn and had any insight into the true workings of the government, I'd prolly snap in record time.

I think Darkwolf may be right, all you need is the return key. You don't need to bother with html codes just to make a blank line.

Hey, and don't knock yourself. I figured that you didn't know that it was happening, because you don't strike me as the sort who would intentionally make your posts harder to reply to. How could you know until someone told you? Hopefully you can work out a way you can have the nice colors along with easy spacing.

The board software strips out HTML tags and any adjacent line breaks when it builds the text for the reply box. Not much to be done from our end, I'm afraid.
