Kind of a short chapter, lots of talking… I had writers block…

I will be moving this weekend and begin studying again so the update schedule for BL will change. It may become more sporadic and I will try to aim for weekends instead.

Beloved Child 56

In Groders opinion the sparring session was dismal. No one had seemed to bother to train Nym properly, not that Groder was well trained it was just that a year of fighting for your life up and down the sword coast tended to grant deadly skills. Although he had to admit that Nym was a bit unpredictable with the wild swings. In the end Groder smacked the short sword out of Nym`s hand. Nym did not seem overly surprised at losing. Groder sat down on a bench and motioned for Nym top join him.

“That was eh…” Groder began.

“Bad?” Nym supplied and gave a mirthless laugh.

“Could do with some improvement, yes.” The transformed youth offered and nodded.

Nym sighed but said nothing more. Groder tapped his foot. Silence filled the room.

“Right, this is boring.” Groder announced after a while. “Let’s go do something else!”

Now Nym looked worried again.

“But I was supposed to wait here for Istrovir…” He began.

“Bah!” Groder waved a hand derisively. “What he doesn’t know doesn’t hurt him.”

“But it might hurt me…” Nym mumbled.

Groder stood and began rummaging in his pockets. Eventually he pulled out a small leather bag.

“I did manage to liberate some gold from my hrrm… party and I was thinking to spend it but I can’t find my way around the city.” He shrugged then he slid towards Nym.

“Which is why I need a guide, I was just thinking that we take a jaunt to the market and back. Won’t take too long.”

Nym avoided his gaze.

“I suppose…” The Drow said and Groder promptly grabbed Nym by the hand and dragged him away with him.

**

Once they had gotten back to the fighters guild, Groder went into a room adjacent to the still empty training hall to change.

“Well?” He asked and struck a pose when he returned.

Nym looked nervous and apologetic.

“That doesn’t look very practical…” The young Drow said.

“It is not supposed to be practical; it is supposed to be good looking.” Groder replied.

The outfit he wore consisted of a pair of greaves that also shielded one of his hips as well as two pauldrons apart from that it was only a pair of shorts and tunic of darkened spider silk.

“Still…” Nym began; he also eyed Groders tattoos for a brief moment.

“Ah ah ah” Groder held up a finger. “My fashion sense is impeccable.”

Nym chuckled at this and actually seemed to smile for the first time and then caught himself and stopped, looking dismal again. Groder noticed but said nothing.

**

After finishing his meal with the foreigners, Solaufein had planned to return to the fighter’s guild but was intercepted by Ruzun and the two were now sitting in a corner, a bottle of wine between them.

“Well?” Ruzun asked. “What is your take on these newcomers abbil?”

Solaufein shrugged and sipped his wine, it tasted too bitter.

“They seem a bit odd.” The warrior agreed as he put his goblet down. “They fight well if a bit disorganised and the brat is a pain in the ass.”

“Cute though and those tattoos, that Haer`Dalis isn’t bad either. Shame he is with Phaere though.” Ruzun said and clicked a finger nail against his own goblet.

“He will have his heart carved out before long.” Solaufein muttered.

“Bah! You really need to let that go. What did you think would happen?” The effimate Drow asked and then kept on as Solaufeins face darkened. “What about that pink haired female, she seems interested in you?”

Soalufein scowled then answered. “Well…” He rubbed his chin. “She is amusing in an odd way. They are all odd.”

“Well, they are foreigners.” Ruzun replied and took another sip of his wine.

“Not that.” Solaufein protested. “It is something I just can’t put my finger on. Something that is just off.”

“Are you sure that you are not looking for faults were there are none?” Ruzun asked with an eyebrow raised.

Solaufein snorted.

“Perhaps but one can never be too careful.” He said. “I suppose they are agreeable enough company.”

Ruzun took another sip of wine.

“You should go for the pink hair.” He said.

Solaufein made a noncommittal grunt and swept the rest of the wine. Then he stood.

“I have to go pick up the brat so that he doesn’t get lost.” He said.

Ruzun raised his goblet at Solaufein and winked at him.

“Tell him to send that Haer`Dalis fellow around to me someday.”

The Drow warrior snorted and left Ruzun at the table.

**

After the meal, the four women plus Haer`Dalis returned to their room. Napping and meditating respectively, Nalia and Jaheira left the common room for their own rooms. Haer`Dalis rested his feet on the table and hummed a jaunty tune.

“I think that dinner went well.” Imoen said grinning and slouched a bit in her chair. “Sola smiled twice!”

“Ah yes, I was supposed to talk to you about Solaufein.” Viconia nodded to herself.

“I thought I was an adult, mother?” Imoen gave a half smile.

“Even adults need to be careful.” Haer`Dalis interjected.

Both Viconia and Imoen raised their eyebrows quizzically at him. The bard shrugged.

“It is just common sense.” He stated. “Although I may not always use it.”

“Anyways, you need to be careful Imoen.” Viconia said resting her arms on the table. “Solaufeins relations with the House Despana may not be the best but if he or anyone else begin to suspect something…” The Drow eyed Imoen meaningfully.

“I know.” Imoen defended. “I’ll be careful.”

“Although I gather that you could actually simply order him around.” Haer`Dalis said.

“Perhaps.” Viconia allowed. “But it may not be very advisable.”

“And I don’t really want to do that anyways.” Imoen straightened a bit in her chair. “I kind of like him so I’ll give it a go and see what happens.”

“I shall keep an eye on you and him then.” Viconia pointed at Imoen.

“Sheesh…” Imoen smiled and rolled her eyes. “You are becoming more like Jaheira. She is having a bad influence on you young lady.”

Viconia crossed her arms over her chest and gave the now giggling Imoen an annoyed glare, then she seemed to recall something.

“I gave been meaning to ask, how is it that your hair is still pink?” The cleric frowned.

Imoen looked surprised and then tugged at one of her pink bangs.

“The dye I used was magical and well the colour just won’t rinse out.” She shrugged. “It makes me look a bit silly but I guess it doesn’t bother me that much.” Then she looked at Haer`Dalis. “While we are on the subject of hair, is yours dyed Haer`Dalis?”

The tiefling bard shook his head.

“No, that is my natural hair colour.” Haer`Dalis said. “My hair is white now no?”

“Ah, right…” Imoen nodded and tapped her chin.

“So, when is Groder coming back?” Haer`Dalis asked and drew a hand through his hair.

“Solaufein said he would collect him.” Viconia said. “Hopefully they do not kill each other.”

**

Solaufein entered into the near empty halls of the melee fighter’s guild and quickly located Veldrin in the main training hall. The youth was wearing something that was designed for the sake of design rather then functionality. He was gesturing in the air and apparently talking to another young Drow. Solaufein recognized Nym Vol`Soress and the second boy of House Vol`Soress looked as nervous and cowed as he always did.

“Veldrin!” He called and the youth turned his attention away from Nym and looked at him instead.

The older Drow warrior looked on as Veldrin retrieved his axe and bid Nym goodbye. The two left the nervous Drow youth behind. As they left the guild Solaufein asked.

“What are you wearing?”

Veldrin spun on the spot and the said.

“Looks good doesn’t it?”

Solaufein rolled his eyes and they kept walking.

“So.” The youth began. “Nym tells me that his brother Istrovir wants to kill me, maybe try to do it in the arena.”

Solaufein grunted and rubbed the bridge of his nose.

“Of course…” The Drow ground out. “The females will love this.”

From next week on?

As long as you don't stop writing the story altogether...

“I suppose…” The Drow said and Groder promptly grabbed Nym by the hand and dragged him away with him.

Oh, so fighting didn't work as Bonding Experience, so we're off to shopping instead?

Nym chuckled at this and actually seemed to smile for the first time and then caught himself and stopped, looking dismal again. Groder noticed but said nothing.

Nym is one depressed drow... I wonder what his Terrible Secret is!

“Cute though and those tattoos, that Haer`Dalis isn’t bad either. Shame he is with Phaere though.” Ruzun said and clicked a finger nail against his own goblet.

Gossiping!

“Not that.” Solaufein protested. “It is something I just can’t put my finger on. Something that is just off.”

He should be careful with his tongue, methinks... Although it's good to know that he isn't an idiot!

“You should go for the pink hair.” He said.

No worry, Ruzun. She is already going for him.

“Even adults need to be careful.” Haer`Dalis interjected.

Both Viconia and Imoen raised their eyebrows quizzically at him. The bard shrugged.

“It is just common sense.” He stated. “Although I may not always use it.”

Ah. I appreciate the distinction.

“Anyways, you need to be careful Imoen.” Viconia said resting her arms on the table. “Solaufeins relations with the House Despana may not be the best but if he or anyone else begin to suspect something…” The Drow eyed Imoen meaningfully.

He already has, Malla Viconia.

“Although I gather that you could actually simply order him around.” Haer`Dalis said.

The way Phaere is ordering you, aye, sparrow?

“And I don’t really want to do that anyways.” Imoen straightened a bit in her chair. “I kind of like him so I’ll give it a go and see what happens.”

Err... My guess is: bloodshed.

“So.” The youth began. “Nym tells me that his brother Istrovir wants to kill me, maybe try to do it in the arena.”

Solaufein grunted and rubbed the bridge of his nose.

“Of course…” The Drow ground out. “The females will love this.”

He's so happy about it... ;)

Really, your Sola is so grumpy it's no wonder Imoen is happy when he smiles twice.

“That was eh…” Groder began.

One thing I like about Groder is that he is evil, but not completely and utterly evil. He's certainly no Korgan, but he isn't Keldron evil. What alignment is he supposed to be? My guess is Chaotic neutral/Neutral Evil. Like, for instance, it's clear he wants to be friends with Nym, which makes us a lot more sympathetic towards him. i can't imagine Korgan trying to make friends with *anyone*.

“Bah!” Groder waved a hand derisively. “What he doesn’t know doesn’t hurt him.”

Can we say bad influence, or can we say bad influence, eh?

“But it might hurt me…” Nym mumbled.

Touche! Good point!

“It is not supposed to be practical; it is supposed to be good looking.” Groder replied.

Good for Groder! It's not very often adventurers get to be stylish. I say let him have his fasionable clothing.

Nym chuckled at this and actually seemed to smile for the first time and then caught himself and stopped, looking dismal again. Groder noticed but said nothing.

Growing up as a drow must be absolutely horrible. Not to mention his brother's an idiot. Actually, I'm surprised Nym hasn't been killed for being weak. Maybe when push comes to shove he is prepared to do what is necessary.

After finishing his meal with the foreigners, Solaufein had planned to return to the fighter’s guild but was intercepted by Ruzun and the two were now sitting in a corner, a bottle of wine between them.

Wait. I thought they didn't like each other... maybe I'm getting my drow confused. I thought Sola didn't like Ruzun or ... Nym's brother.

“They seem a bit odd.” The warrior agreed as he put his goblet down. “They fight well if a bit disorganised and the brat is a pain in the ass.”

Heh, try travelling with him!

“Well, they are foreigners.” Ruzun replied and took another sip of his wine.

Well *that* is some A* sterotyping ... wait, this is drow we're talking about. What do they care if they sterotype?

“Tell him to send that Haer`Dalis fellow around to me someday.”

Oi, oi, cheeky!

Both Viconia and Imoen raised their eyebrows quizzically at him. The bard shrugged.

“I gave been meaning to ask, how is it that your hair is still pink?” The cleric frowned.

I think you mean [h]ave. And I'm interested to hear this... Is it bright pink, or is it mildly pink, because drow can have very, very faint pink-y hair.

“Veldrin!” He called and the youth turned his attention away from Nym and looked at him instead.

It's like a mother calling a child when picking him up from a playdate! Too cute!

“Of course…” The Drow ground out. “The females will love this.”

*imagines Jaheira's reaction*

...

*hides*

I thought this was a more of a character developing chapter rather than a plot one. I liked it!

Oh, and good luck moving house! And don't worry about the schedule. I'm still in awe of you for managing to stick to it!

In Groders opinion the sparring session was dismal. No one had seemed to bother to train Nym properly, not that Groder was well trained it was just that a year of fighting for your life up and down the sword coast tended to grant deadly skills.

I love the relaxed summation of Groder's skills here. It does seem logical.

Sorry Groder, but I have to disagree.

Phew! A good build of tension there, and I'm guessing Solaufein will only get more suspicious...

I love this whole conversation. Everyone just seems to have their own voice that you can almost hear. It's well-written.

“What are you wearing?”

Veldrin spun on the spot and the said.

“Looks good doesn’t it?”

Solaufein rolled his eyes and they kept walking.

It seems Solaufein and I are of one mind! I love how nonchalant Groder is about Istrovir's vendetta. Even if the females won't love it, I'm waiting eagerly! Good luck with the move and studying. I'm rooting for you. :D

This can only end badly.

“That doesn’t look very practical…” The young Drow said.

Must be a perfect Drow outfit, then.

The outfit he wore consisted of a pair of greaves that also shielded one of his hips as well as two pauldrons apart from that it was only a pair of shorts and tunic of darkened spider silk.

 Never mind!

“Cute though and those tattoos, that Haer`Dalis isn’t bad either. Shame he is with Phaere though.” Ruzun said and clicked a finger nail against his own goblet.

“He will have his heart carved out before long.” Solaufein muttered.

I'm sure Haer'Dalis can handle a mere Drow.

Now Nym looked worried again.

“But I was supposed to wait here for Istrovir…” He began.

I guess Istrovir can’t be bothered to spar with Nym… or just doesn’t care, or plain doesn’t want him to be competent.

“I suppose…” The Drow said and Groder promptly grabbed Nym by the hand and dragged him away with him.

Groder’s charm offensive in winning over a new friend isn’t working that great…

The outfit he wore consisted of a pair of greaves that also shielded one of his hips as well as two pauldrons apart from that it was only a pair of shorts and tunic of darkened spider silk.

I’m sure all the blind people would agree… :D

“Cute though and those tattoos, that Haer`Dalis isn’t bad either. Shame he is with Phaere though.” Ruzun said and clicked a finger nail against his own goblet.

“He will have his heart carved out before long.” Solaufein muttered.

Not that he would mind… he would just think it’s fun and kinky. :D

Soalufein scowled then answered. “Well…” He rubbed his chin. “She is amusing in an odd way. They are all odd.”

He might like Immy, but he seems too obsessed and unable to get over Phaere… the sad git.

“I think that dinner went well.” Imoen said grinning and slouched a bit in her chair. “Sola smiled twice!”

Why would you want a sour faced grouch like him anyway?

“Ah yes, I was supposed to talk to you about Solaufein.” Viconia nodded to herself.

“I thought I was an adult, mother?” Imoen gave a half smile.

You sure don’t act like one. :D

“Sheesh…” Imoen smiled and rolled her eyes. “You are becoming more like Jaheira. She is having a bad influence on you young lady.”

*chuckles*

“So.” The youth began. “Nym tells me that his brother Istrovir wants to kill me, maybe try to do it in the arena.”

Fun! Though you may want to wear something else for that.

Solaufein grunted and rubbed the bridge of his nose.

“Of course…” The Drow ground out. “The females will love this.”

The outfit? Or Groder fighting in the arena?

Thank you and I hope I will.

“I did manage to liberate some gold from my hrrm… party and I was thinking to spend it but I can’t find my way around the city.” He shrugged then he slid towards Nym.

“Which is why I need a guide, I was just thinking that we take a jaunt to the market and back. Won’t take too long.”

This can only end badly.

Luckily it does not...

“That doesn’t look very practical…” The young Drow said.

Must be a perfect Drow outfit, then.

I think I read in some book that Drow would go naked if not for the fact that clothes can be used to hide weapons.

The outfit he wore consisted of a pair of greaves that also shielded one of his hips as well as two pauldrons apart from that it was only a pair of shorts and tunic of darkened spider silk.

 Never mind!

*bows*

“Cute though and those tattoos, that Haer`Dalis isn’t bad either. Shame he is with Phaere though.” Ruzun said and clicked a finger nail against his own goblet.

“He will have his heart carved out before long.” Solaufein muttered.

I'm sure Haer'Dalis can handle a mere Drow.

I am confident of that too.

Now Nym looked worried again.

“But I was supposed to wait here for Istrovir…” He began.

I guess Istrovir can’t be bothered to spar with Nym… or just doesn’t care, or plain doesn’t want him to be competent.

He doesn`t care...

“I suppose…” The Drow said and Groder promptly grabbed Nym by the hand and dragged him away with him.

Groder’s charm offensive in winning over a new friend isn’t working that great…

Groder doesn`t care.

I’m sure all the blind people would agree… :D

Heh... I am sure they would.

Haer`Dalis: Prehaps but I need my heart for My Raven...

Soalufein scowled then answered. “Well…” He rubbed his chin. “She is amusing in an odd way. They are all odd.”

He might like Immy, but he seems too obsessed and unable to get over Phaere… the sad git.

Hopefully he shall be cured of that. :)

“I think that dinner went well.” Imoen said grinning and slouched a bit in her chair. “Sola smiled twice!”

Why would you want a sour faced grouch like him anyway? :D

Imoen: About one year and a number of months in various cells. ;P

“Ah yes, I was supposed to talk to you about Solaufein.” Viconia nodded to herself.

“I thought I was an adult, mother?” Imoen gave a half smile.

You sure don’t act like one. :P

I bet she can when she wants to. ;)

“Sheesh…” Imoen smiled and rolled her eyes. “You are becoming more like Jaheira. She is having a bad influence on you young lady.”

*chuckles* :D

*bows*

“So.” The youth began. “Nym tells me that his brother Istrovir wants to kill me, maybe try to do it in the arena.”

Fun! Though you may want to wear something else for that.

Yeah, maybe...

Solaufein grunted and rubbed the bridge of his nose.

“Of course…” The Drow ground out. “The females will love this.”

The outfit? Or Groder fighting in the arena? ;)

Why not both??
