Well, things are finally starting to take off. The first showdown with Bodhi is coming in like two or three chapters. I am going to be mean to Bodhi… Poor Bodhi…

(Have corrected errors and the amount. It was supposed to be fifteen thousand.)

Aran’s name is now spelt right! Please enjoy!

Beloved Child 38

Groder woke slowly to a wet sensation on his lips and felt confused when it withdrew. He heard soft steps and began sitting up. Memories of the previous night came flooding back to him. He sighed contentedly at the remembrance of Hiranmayi`s deft fingers even if it had ended at that pleasant note. The girl in question stood beside the bed holding up a blue and white dress. Groder blushed some more.

“I found this.” Hiranmayi stated. “Maybe I should call you little sister from now on?”

“I thought we had gotten rid of that…” Groder trailed off.

Sitting up, he reached for the wash basin and towel that sat on the small table next to the bed. As he was about to pick the towel up, he remembered that he had used it to clean himself off the previous night and stopped. Hiranmayi noticed this and put the dress down.

“What? It is only you on it.” She said.

“That doesn’t mean I want it in my face.” He responded.

“Hah…” The girl mock sighed. “So spoiled.” She waved a hand in a derisive gesture. “When my teacher, Vikram took me from the slums I had to lie on the floor to sleep, I could not get any rest in the bed as I had never slept in one.”

“How does that connect with the fact that I don’t want to rub my face in my own fluids even if it is dry?” Groder asked and got out of the bed.

Hiranmayi shrugged and began clothing herself. Groder followed her example and watched her out of the corner of his eye. He felt oddly attracted to her and they had literally just met. He wondered if this was that famous love at first sight bards sometimes sung about. Of course, he was also attracted to Viconia but was it in the same way? Was that purely physical? Was this? The boy pulled on a dark shirt and then a blue coat. A thought struck him as he watched Hiranmayi punch the air with her Katars.

“Tell me about this Vikram and…” He had to keep himself from shuddering. “Ganishuka.”

Hiranmayi jabbed the air a few times and then turned to him.

“They are like night and day. Make no mistake, my master is ambitious and can be merciless when he has to. But he reigns in our illustrious ruler unlike Ganishuka whom simply used his position to further his own designs.”

It did not sound very different to Groder but he did not say anything and kept on listening.

“Vikram drew people do him by teaching while Ganishukas cult consists of those worms that would crawl to his power. And he had power beyond measure.”

“If he was so powerful, how could he be exiled? He told me he had been.” Groder interrupted.

Hiranmayi cocked her head to the side.

“Vikram challenged Ganishuka`s position in the courts but it is a long and bloody story for another time. Save that our rulers’ appetite for blood paved the way for Vikrams victory and now Ganishuka seeks to reinstate himself by sacrificing you.” The girl shrugged. “In the end our ruler is a fickle man. Shall we eat breakfast now?”

Groder nodded. He realized that he had not actually been told all that much but he decided to wait for Hiranmayi to explain it. The boy was not usually this patient but he shrugged it off. Stopping as he stood before the door that would lead him out of the room, he realized that the room beyond might hold people, curious people. Any procrastination on his part however was dashed to the side when Hiranmayi flung the door open and walked brazenly into the common room. Groder shook his head and followed.

The common room was indeed filled with curious people. Haer`Dalis had apparently decided to take breakfast with them and the tattooed actor gave Groder a toothy approving grin. Nalia felled a comment about young love in mockery of Haer`Dalise`s voice and the young noble giggled when Groder glowered at her. The boy and girl both sat down in a pair of empty chairs which Groder realized a bit too late sat opposite to Viconia. The Drow did not look angry but was concentrating on her food. Groder could not help feeling like there was a thundercloud rolling of her and oppressing the atmosphere around him. The woman said nothing and kept eating.

“Groder.” Jaheira said, the druid sat on the same side of the table as Groder and Hiranmayi, a chair away on the girl’s right. “We had a nightly visitor that left this.” Jaheira held up a folded piece of paper and a black key.

“The shadow master wants to see us at last.” She finished and handed the paper to Hiranmayi whom handed it to Groder. The boy scanned the letter briefly and then said:

“Finally, we should get on with this as soon as possible.”

Jaheira nodded.

“I agree.” She answered. “We should make ourselves ready and head to the docks as soon as possible.” Then she looked at Hiranmayi. “That includes getting you shoes.”

**

The smell of the ocean swept against them as they entered the docks district. In the light and bustle of day the docks was a different beast entirely. Sailors and merchants crowded the streets together with the districts inhabitants. By the wharf rose cranes that loaded and unloaded ships. Homes, warehouses and pubs shared the same broad winding streets. The entire district was built in terraces that travelled downwards to the sea.

“Ah…” Hiranmayi sighed and stretched her arms above her head. “The sea always smells good.”

“Indeed.” Yohsimo muttered. The Kara-Turan looked apologetic and then said. “There is something I have not told you I am afraid.”

“And what is that?” Groder asked.

Yoshimo smiled and rubbed the back of his head as the party turned and looked at him.

“What have you not told us?” Viconia barked.

“Well, I am a freelancer after all and some people are not happy about that.” Yoshimo said.

“Fool!” Hiranmayi said. “You put us in possible danger.”

“What kind of people?” Groder asked angrily.

“His name is Renal Bloodscalp and he carries a lot of weight in the Shadow Thieves. Again I am sorry; I should have mentioned it earlier.” The Kara-Turan bowed apologetically.

Nalia grabbed him by the arm and smiled reassuringly.

“I am sure we will be able to handle it.” She said.

“Let us just go.” Groder pointed down the street. “It is down there somewhere right? The letter said a sentry would alert us.”

They made their way down the street and the rows of homes and stores changed to larger demesnes and even warehouses. On the way the group bumped into a less then sane Cyric worshipper that Viconia resolutely pushed down a flight of stairs. They came upon a slightly dilapidated house that was in the process of being repainted. Men stood on platforms replacing windows. A monster of a man stood leaning against the wall next to the double doors that led into the building. He looked as if he easily could pick up anyone of the party members by the neck and snap it. As the party got closer the big man squinted at them and then stepped out in their way.

“Yer are Sime`s bunch arn`t ye?” It was deep rumble of a voice. Cold blue eyes looked them over. Not waiting for an answer he looked at Groder and asked:

“Yer the little gel that lead this band then?”

“For hells sake I am not a girl!” Groder shouted. The workers stopped with their restoration and looked at him. Some of them laughed.

“Aye.” The man nodded. “Sime said you wouldn’t like that.”

The man pushed the double doors open and waved at the party.

“Go on in. The boss is waiting.” He rumbled. “Go left an use the key at the door at the end.”

As the party filed into the building Groder snapped at the man.

“You don’t look much like a thief with your size.” He jibed. “Not made for sneaking eh?”

The man snorted as he began closing the door.

“Ah steal limbs.” He said and shut the door.

With the door closed the only light that entered the room the party had stepped into was windows that high on the walls. The room was empty save for a few tables and chairs. The shadows were many and deep. Beyond they could see crates stacked in another room. Nalia moved closer to Yoshimo. The Kara-Tuan looked around a bit nervously. A corridor began to their left and led deeper into the building. Hiranmayi had drawn her Katars but her arms rested against her sides.

“Are you going to stand there all day?” A rough voice asked. A woman with an ugly scar that ran horizontally across her face padded out of the darkness. “Frost told you to go left.” She inclined her head towards the corridor. “Or are you afraid of the dark?”

Jaheira obviously tired of it all marched resolutely into the corridor and then turned.

“Come on.” She said. “They did not beings us here to kill us.”

“Only to taunt us apparently.” Viconia retorted.

They moved fast albeit warily through a few small storage areas until they came to a halt. The final room held stairs that led downwards and a door. Jaheira took out the black key they had received with the invitation and unlocked it. After descending a stair that lay almost in total darkness where the members without any means to see in the dark had to hold on to the ones that could. Groder had been grabbed by Viconia and Hiranmayi had been delegated to Jaheira. Nalia led Yoshimo down the stairs and Haer`Dalis followed them both with ease thanks to his spells.

The room they emerged into was brightly lit by chandeliers hanging in the ceiling. The room was carpeted and filled with tables and chairs. Bookcases lined a wall and a bar with a man behind it sat next to the door the party had entered trough. The place was lively and crowded with people, it was also neat. Even the stone walls seemed to in perfect condition. An ugly gnome and young human woman were throwing knives at a target on the wall. Others were clustered in groups that chatted and gambled.

“Is this a thief’s guild or a nobles club?” Haer`Dalis asked amused.

It did not appear like the Shadow Thieves were in such dire straits but there lay a tenseness over the assembled people that became apparent when the party moved further into the room. While thieves naturally were a suspicious sort, these seemed overly so, actually fingering whatever weapons they had. They seemed to cool off however when Sime approached the group.

“Glad to see you made it.” She said.

Groder nodded to her.

“So where is this Shadow Master of yours?” He asked.

“Follow me.” She said.

They followed Sime down a long corridor that ended at a bridge. The wooden construct reached across a manmade chasm that seemed to be a part of the city’s sewer system. Pipes extended from the walls of the chasm and poured their waste deeper into ground. Some larger openings sat in positions over the bridge and Groder thought he saw movement there. When he whispered this to Hiranmayi she confirmed it. Hanging above them as they crossed the bridge were large blocks of stone suspended from thick chains. When they had crossed the chasm, they were in a small hallway that ended with a thick metal door. Two men sat on the floor, watching the group. Another two was leaning against the wall.

“They are here to see the Shadow Master.” Sime told the men. One of them went over to the door, opened it and stuck his head in. The group could not hear what was being said but apparently he announced them because he turned around and motioned for them to come. Sime bowed to the group.

“Here is where I leave you. I wager we shall meet again.” The woman turned and walked back across the bridge.

**

Groder looked at Aran Linvails narrow smiling face and came to the conclusion that this man was entirely untrustworthy. Since he was smiling sweetly as well he assumed that Linvail had come to the same conclusion about him. Groder placed the bag containing the fifteen thousand gold coins on the man’s desk. Aran waved an old balding man forward whom took the bag and left the room.

“Aren’t you going to count it?” Groder asked.

“No.” The Shadow Master answered pleasantly. “I trust you.” The emphasis lay on the middle word.

“Of course you do.” Groder said and never ceased to smile. He also wagered that if they kept smiling their heads would fall off.

Groder had noticed that Yoshimo kept sending glances at the man that had been introduced as Renal Bloodscalp. The man in question stood next to Aran’s desk, garbed in black with a mop of red hair sticking out in all directions. The face held a calm, superior expression.

They had all been eased into chairs although both Viconia and Hiranmayi kept glancing about. Groder had counted at least two other people in the room, hiding in the shadows but he was sure there where more.

“Now that we have paid you.” Groder said. “I would like to be told where Spellhold is and how we can get there.”

“Ah” Aran smiled. “While your gold will help us a great deal, I am afraid that we will require a small favour or two as well.” He held up a hand. “Now, don’t worry, we will arrange transport to Spellhold afterwards but as you know we are in the middle of a small war here.”

Jaheira snorted and crossed her arms.

“As we could have expected.” She said. “Not only do we have to pay you but run errands as well.”

“I am sorry dear lady but the times are what they are.” Aran responded sounding apologetic.

“The hell they are!” Groder yelled and tapped the desk with a finger. “We paid you and that is it.”

“Bah!” Hiranmayi broke in and waved a hand. “You made a deal with the thieves knowing they are untrustworthy, why be surprised when they do not keep their end of the bargain?” The girl bent forward slightly in her seat. “Thieves and liars are close like siblings. Perhaps this one should feed the hands of thieves to their liar brethren?”

“Not with enemies you can’t see.” Viconia spat and grabbed the girl by the shoulder, pulling her back.

The smile never left Aran’s face.

“You are not in any position to negotiate this I’m afraid.” He said.

Groder sat back in his chair, sneering.

“I am the only one who can get you to Spellhold; no one will help you without my say so. The power of the Shadow Master has far reaches.” Aran looked over to Bloodscalp. “I am also doing you a favour, aren’t I Renal?”

Bloodscalp looked at Yoshimo.

“You are lucky friend.” He said with a dry voice. “Aran has convinced me that you debt is cancelled with your work here.”

“That’s it!” Groder yelled again and motioned furiously at Yoshimo. “Yoshimo gets free of some debt?”

“But that is good isn’t it?” Nalia asked and patted Yoshimo`s shoulder.

“Fine, fine, fine…” Groder bent his head and held his face with one hand, beating a fist on the seats armrest in time with his words. “We will do this… favour.” He spat.

“Good.” Aran Linvail smiled at Groder whose head was still bent. “Now, what I want you to do is some simple guard duty. There is a shipment that we need to keep secure tonight. My guards have reported some suspicious activity the past nights so we need someone to keep an eye on it.”

Groder raised his head.

“Only guard duty? That is all?” He asked suspiciously.

“Hopefully so.” Aran replied.

No, Groder decided. It would most likely not be that easy. He kept sneering at Aran`s smiling face.

Watch me weep in sympathy. :)

*enjoys Aran’s name* :|

He sighed contentedly at the remembrance of Hiranmayi`s deft fingers even if it had ended at that pleasant note. The girl in question stood beside the bed holding up a blue and white dress. Laugh! Guess he had too many fond memories to get rid of that!

“I found this.” Hiranmayi stated. “Maybe I should call you little sister from now on?”

I dunno, do you make a habit of sleeping with your sisters?

Hiranmayi shrugged and began clothing herself. Groder followed her example and watched her out of the corner of his eye. He felt oddly attracted to her and they had literally just met. He wondered if this was that famous love at first sight bards sometimes sung about. Of course, he was also attracted to Viconia but was it in the same way? Was that purely physical? Was this?

Physical attraction, both of them... we all know his true soulmate is something akin to a giant slug. :?

“Vikram challenged Ganishuka`s position in the courts but it is a long and bloody story for another time. Save that our rulers’ appetite for blood paved the way for Vikrams victory and now Ganishuka seeks to reinstate himself by sacrificing you.” The girl shrugged. “In the end our ruler is a fickle man. Shall we eat breakfast now?”

Just wondering how that would actually reinstate him? Do the rulers of his land even know about Groder or actually give a damn?

The common room was indeed filled with curious people. Haer`Dalis had apparently decided to take breakfast with them and the tattooed actor gave Groder a toothy approving grin. Nalia felled a comment about young love in mockery of Haer`Dalise`s voice and the young noble giggled when Groder glowered at her. Groder could not help feeling like there was a thundercloud rolling of her and oppressing the atmosphere around him. The woman said nothing and kept eating.

I’m wondering if Viconia, being a drow, can even feel jealous the way we humans do.

“His name is Renal Bloodscalp and he carries a lot of weight in the Shadow Thieves. Again I am sorry; I should have mentioned it earlier.” The Kara-Turan bowed apologetically.

Yeah, we really hoped we would not have to bother with that quest! Though it leads to Edwin... hmmm.

“Yer are Sime`s bunch arn`t ye?” It was deep rumble of a voice. Cold blue eyes looked them over. Not waiting for an answer he looked at Groder and asked:

“Yer the little gel that lead this band then?”

Groder gets absolutely no respect from anyone, it seems.

Jaheira obviously tired of it all marched resolutely into the corridor and then turned.

“Come on.” She said. “They did not beings us here to kill us.”

*bring* :?

*perks up* Gief lager!

Groder looked at Aran Linvails narrow smiling face and came to the conclusion that this man was entirely untrustworthy. Since he was smiling sweetly as well he assumed that Linvail had come to the same conclusion about him. Groder placed the bag containing twenty thousand gold coins on the man’s desk. Aran waved an old balding man forward whom took the bag and left the room.

Twenty thousand? He’s not getting the discount... ye, nobody likes Groder.

“You are lucky friend.” He said with a dry voice. “Aran has convinced me that you debt is cancelled with your work here.”

Aww does that mean no Edwin?

“Hopefully so.” Aran replied.

No, Groder decided. It would most likely not be that easy. He kept sneering at Aran`s smiling face.

I guess the only unhappy one will be Irenicus...

A very enjoyable name no? We hope to provide more enjoyable names in the future.

Groder woke slowly to a wet sensation on his lips and felt confused when it withdrew. He heard soft steps and began sitting up. Memories of the previous night came flooding back to him. :?

Maybe... things have a tendancy to stick around.

“I found this.” Hiranmayi stated. “Maybe I should call you little sister from now on?”

I dunno, do you make a habit of sleeping with your sisters?

Heh... She should have thought before teasing here.

Was this?

Think how offended the slugs would be if they could read. :|

“Vikram challenged Ganishuka`s position in the courts but it is a long and bloody story for another time. Just wondering how that would actually reinstate him? Do the rulers of his land even know about Groder or actually give a damn? :(

The idea was to present Groder as a delectable present to the ruler. The ruler decides on court magician so a grand gift was needed. I think I will have Ganishuka explain it in a later chapter.

The common room was indeed filled with curious people. Haer`Dalis had apparently decided to take breakfast with them and the tattooed actor gave Groder a toothy approving grin. Well, I would not say that she is jealous; just displeased that someone has butted into her turf.

Since jealousy can be said to be the desire to possess what someone else has, I would wager that Drow do feel some form of jealousy

“His name is Renal Bloodscalp and he carries a lot of weight in the Shadow Thieves. Again I am sorry; I should have mentioned it earlier.” The Kara-Turan bowed apologetically.

Yeah, we really hoped we would not have to bother with that quest! Though it leads to Edwin... hmmm.

The quest is indeed a chore but Edwin is elsewhere, safe and sound!

Well, someone has to be the smart one. :)

The noble thieves club? :D

They already have one I wager. :)

They followed Sime down a long corridor that ended at a bridge. The wooden construct reached across a manmade chasm that seemed to be a part of the city’s sewer system. Pipes extended from the walls of the chasm and poured their waste deeper into ground. Some lager openings

And the beer did flow!

Seriously thought, I fixed that little error. :)

He got the discount, I just managed to write the wrong amount... :)

“You are lucky friend.” He said with a dry voice. “Aran has convinced me that you debt is cancelled with your work here.”

Aww does that mean no Edwin?

Yes, no Edwin. He may show up anyways though. I am not really confident that I can write him though.

“Hopefully so.” Aran replied.

No, Groder decided. It would most likely not be that easy. He kept sneering at Aran`s smiling face.

Oh boo hoo

“How does that connect with the fact that I don’t want to rub my face in my own fluids even if it is dry?” Groder asked and got out of the bed.

It doesn't really matter what it is; she should understand that a towel with dried stuff of eggwhite consistency on it would more than likely scratch his face :|

Blood gore blood gore what's for breakfast? :) :?

“Yer the little gel that lead this band then?”

“For hells sake I am not a girl!” Groder shouted. The workers stopped with their restoration and looked at him. Some of them laughed.

:?

“Aye.” The man nodded. “Sime said you wouldn’t like that.”

:)

“You don’t look much like a thief with your size.” He jibed. “Not made for sneaking eh?”

The man snorted as he began closing the door.

“Ah steal limbs.” He said and shut the door.

Zing!

“Is this a thief’s guild or a nobles club?” Haer`Dalis asked amused.

Good question!

“Ah” Aran smiled. “While your gold will help us a great deal, I am afraid that we will require a small favour or two as well.” He held up a hand. “Now, don’t worry, we will arrange transport to Spellhold afterwards but as you know we are in the middle of a small war here.”

Is there anyone who doesn't want to punch him at this stage of the game?

Well, things are finally starting to take off. The first showdown with Bodhi is coming in like two or three chapters. I am going to be mean to Bodhi… Poor Bodhi…

Aww... Poor, poor little mousey mouse... :)

Aww again... The raw male teenage angst here...

No, really. Never having been a male teenager, my only idea of what Groder should be now thinking comes to something like, "That was cool, although a bit dirty and clumsy, and can we do it again, except I don't know if I really want to be the one to suggest it first, because what if I don't manage this time and will look like an idiot," possibly combined with something akin to, "she has a really hot (body part of choice here). Playing with those Katar thingies really paid off."

Next to this, what you've written is pure poetry. :?

(Yes, I'm a cynic, in case you haven't guessed yet. Comes with the territory. In case I'm completely, utterly wrong, I would like to stand corrected.)

But he reigns in our illustrious ruler unlike Ganishuka whom simply used his position to further his own designs.”

"Who." "Whom" goes with prepositions -> "to whom", "by whom", "for whom". "Nalia who", "Ganishuka who", "Groder who"...

It did not sound very different to Groder but he did not say anything and kept on listening.

He's so refreshingly honest at times. :) (Or your narrative voice is. I'm having trouble with which one it is right now. :))

I love Nalia here. :? Although it's curious what Viconia is going to do...

“I agree.” She answered. “We should make ourselves ready and head to the docks as soon as possible.” Then she looked at Hiranmayi. “That includes getting you shoes.”

Nicely rounded up! I quite liked this whole part.

Hmm. "A different beast entirely"? This feels like you're referencing some past description. When was it? Because I don't quite remember it, and so this expression feels a bit odd here.

Otherwise, I've been liking your descriptions recently. :|

“Ah…” Hiranmayi sighed and stretched her arms above her head. “The sea always smells good.”

(Even in the docks? Hmm.)

(That said, I like this rather human moment of her.)

“Fool!” Hiranmayi said. “You put us in possible danger.”

Ah. Back to normal, I see. :?

They made their way down the street and the rows of homes and stores changed to larger demesnes and even warehouses.

Err. Demesnes?

On the way the group bumped into a less then sane Cyric worshipper that Viconia resolutely pushed down a flight of stairs.

:(

They came upon a slightly dilapidated house that was in the process of being repainted. Men stood on platforms replacing windows.

Aran's renovating, I see. :( But this is a really, really cool bit. They have to repaint it some time, after all...

“Come on.” She said. “They did not beings us here to kill us.”

As Theodur wrote: "bring". :|

“Is this a thief’s guild or a nobles club?” Haer`Dalis asked amused.

My thoughts exactly. :( That said, another nice description. Feel free to apply the epithet also to the next one. :D

Groder looked at Aran Linvails narrow smiling face and came to the conclusion that this man was entirely untrustworthy. Since he was smiling sweetly as well he assumed that Linvail had come to the same conclusion about him.

Mwahahaha! As I said above, at times Groder's so refreshingly honest. :D

“Of course you do.” Groder said and never ceased to smile. He also wagered that if they kept smiling their heads would fall off.

:)

Groder had noticed that Yoshimo kept sending glances at the man that had been introduced as Renal Bloodscalp. The man in question stood next to Aran’s desk, garbed in black with a mop of red hair sticking out in all directions.

Ah. A great explanation of the nickname. ;)

The smile never left Aran’s face.

“You are not in any position to negotiate this I’m afraid.” He said.

Oooh. In other words, he's offering them a deal they won't refuse? :D

(Btw, is Aran's name now spelt Corleone?)

Groder sat back in his chair, sneering.

"The smile left Groder's face."

“I am the only one who can get you to Spellhold; no one will help you without my say so. The power of the Shadow Master has far reaches.” Aran looked over to Bloodscalp. “I am also doing you a favour, aren’t I Renal?”

Two pointers, if you'd like them? One, it's "my saying so". Two, if you want a more formal style for Aran, "am I not, Renal?" would fit better than "aren't I Renal?"

(I have no idea what it is with me today. Spewing entirely too many comments for one chapter. :))

No, Groder decided. It would most likely not be that easy. He kept sneering at Aran`s smiling face.

I love how you kept the smiling/sneering theme throughout this scene. It sort of really shows the difference between the cool Aran and the trying to be cool, but quickly failing, Groder! And I see that it's no one in the party who managed to get on Aran's nerves, but Aran who managed to get on Groder's. (And possibly everyone else's, even if they won't admit it. :D)

In short, plenty of cool things in this chapter. Thankee!

Well, things are finally starting to take off. The first showdown with Bodhi is coming in like two or three chapters. I am going to be mean to Bodhi… Poor Bodhi…

Oh boo hoo :?

Aw, she is not getting any breaks is she?

“How does that connect with the fact that I don’t want to rub my face in my own fluids even if it is dry?” Groder asked and got out of the bed.

It doesn't really matter what it is; she should understand that a towel with dried stuff of eggwhite consistency on it would more than likely scratch his face :(

She isn`t a fancy scholar! :)

Blood gore blood gore what's for breakfast? :-) :P

:D

“Yer the little gel that lead this band then?”

“For hells sake I am not a girl!” Groder shouted. The workers stopped with their restoration and looked at him. Some of them laughed.

:)

He can`t get no respect...

“Aye.” The man nodded. “Sime said you wouldn’t like that.”

:| ;)

:)

“You don’t look much like a thief with your size.” He jibed. “Not made for sneaking eh?”

The man snorted as he began closing the door.

“Ah steal limbs.” He said and shut the door.

Zing!

Quite the come back isn`t it?

“Is this a thief’s guild or a nobles club?” Haer`Dalis asked amused.

Good question!

Sometimes it is hard to tell the difference.

Some Paladin most likely... :)

Aww... Poor, poor little mousey mouse... :-)

And I like her! :?

Hiranmayi shrugged and began clothing herself. Groder followed her example and watched her out of the corner of his eye. He felt oddly attracted to her and they had literally just met. He wondered if this was that famous love at first sight bards sometimes sung about. Of course, he was also attracted to Viconia but was it in the same way? Was that purely physical? Was this? The boy pulled on a dark shirt and then a blue coat. A thought struck him as he watched Hiranmayi punch the air with her Katars.

Next to this, what you've written is pure poetry. ;)

(Yes, I'm a cynic, in case you haven't guessed yet. Comes with the territory. In case I'm completely, utterly wrong, I would like to stand corrected.)

Thank you and I would not say that you are that far of the mark.

But he reigns in our illustrious ruler unlike Ganishuka whom simply used his position to further his own designs.”

"Who." :D "Whom" goes with prepositions -> "to whom", "by whom", "for whom". "Nalia who", "Ganishuka who", "Groder who"...

I really should know this you know...

It did not sound very different to Groder but he did not say anything and kept on listening.

He's so refreshingly honest at times. :D (Or your narrative voice is. I'm having trouble with which one it is right now. :?)[/qoute]

Take it as Groder`s thoughts.

I love Nalia here. :D Although it's curious what Viconia is going to do...

Thank you, Viconia will get a foot in soon enough. :(

“I agree.” She answered. “We should make ourselves ready and head to the docks as soon as possible.” Then she looked at Hiranmayi. “That includes getting you shoes.”

Nicely rounded up! I quite liked this whole part.

Thank you. :D

Hmm. "A different beast entirely"? This feels like you're referencing some past description. When was it? Because I don't quite remember it, and so this expression feels a bit odd here.

Ah... Well, the last time they where there it was dark and they fought nasty people... :P

Otherwise, I've been liking your descriptions recently. :D

Thank you.

“Ah…” Hiranmayi sighed and stretched her arms above her head. “The sea always smells good.”

(Even in the docks? Hmm.)

(That said, I like this rather human moment of her.)

You can usually smell the sea from far away so yes. :D

See, she is normal!

“Fool!” Hiranmayi said. “You put us in possible danger.”

Ah. Back to normal, I see. :|

Ah, yep... :)

They made their way down the street and the rows of homes and stores changed to larger demesnes and even warehouses.

Err. Demesnes?

Eh, It refers to a kind of manor place.

On the way the group bumped into a less then sane Cyric worshipper that Viconia resolutely pushed down a flight of stairs.

:D

She let some frustration out. :D

They came upon a slightly dilapidated house that was in the process of being repainted. Men stood on platforms replacing windows.

Aran's renovating, I see. :D But this is a really, really cool bit. They have to repaint it some time, after all...

Thanks, I guess they decided to not make thier HQ look like a run down warehouse.

“Come on.” She said. “They did not beings us here to kill us.”

As Theodur wrote: "bring". :)

The lady is smart!

“Is this a thief’s guild or a nobles club?” Haer`Dalis asked amused.

My thoughts exactly. :D That said, another nice description. Feel free to apply the epithet also to the next one. :D

Even thieves deserve luxury!
:D

Mwahahaha! As I said above, at times Groder's so refreshingly honest. :D

Well, he has to be sometimes.

“Of course you do.” Groder said and never ceased to smile. He also wagered that if they kept smiling their heads would fall off.

:)

:)

Well, they can`t! He owns the docks.

Groder sat back in his chair, sneering.

"The smile left Groder's face." :)

Oh, yes it did. :)

“I am the only one who can get you to Spellhold; no one will help you without my say so. The power of the Shadow Master has far reaches.” Aran looked over to Bloodscalp. “I am also doing you a favour, aren’t I Renal?”

Not to worry. It is always welcome.

Thank you, I imagine Aran to be a very calm and cool person. The rest of the party did not get to say much. :)

Woohoo! Bodhi abuse!

“How does that connect with the fact that I don’t want to rub my face in my own fluids even if it is dry?” Groder asked and got out of the bed.

...

I don't wanna know.

No doubt Viccy is plotting bloody murder atm.

“Aye.” The man nodded. “Sime said you wouldn’t like that.”

Laska : Oy! What's wrong with being a girl, anyway? We just wanna have fun.

“Is this a thief’s guild or a nobles club?” Haer`Dalis asked amused.

Or is all that stuff just stolen from a nobles' club? :?

“Ah” Aran smiled. “While your gold will help us a great deal, I am afraid that we will require a small favour or two as well.” He held up a hand. “Now, don’t worry, we will arrange transport to Spellhold afterwards but as you know we are in the middle of a small war here.”

Jaheira snorted and crossed her arms.

“As we could have expected.” She said. “Not only do we have to pay you but run errands as well.”

Isn't it always like that?

“Good.” Aran Linvail smiled at Groder whose head was still bent. “Now, what I want you to do is some simple guard duty. There is a shipment that we need to keep secure tonight. My guards have reported some suspicious activity the past nights so we need someone to keep an eye on it.”

Groder raised his head.

“Only guard duty? That is all?” He asked suspiciously.

“Hopefully so.” Aran replied.

No, Groder decided. It would most likely not be that easy. He kept sneering at Aran`s smiling face.

Annoying to know that you're being used and that there's nothing you can do about it.

Precisely ;)

She is weighing her options, an "accident" is not ruled out.

Groder: It is the principle of the thing, my pretty face is a blessing and a curse.

That place uptown did wonder where all their furniture went. :?

Sometimes it would be nice if it was easier.

Yeah, Groder is not pelased. At least there is ass kicking in their future.
