Another Thursday, another chapter.

A little warning before we begin, this chapter contains naked people in a bath… together. Nothing graphic but well… hit your back button if stuff like that bothers you.

In all honesty I am not exactly pleased with this chapter but I have been staring at it for weeks and have been getting nowhere. I have also been running through it with a butcher knife far too many times as well.

Beloved Child 12

Groder explained about the play and the payment. Everyone agreed that some more rest and maybe a chance to buy new equipment would be welcome instead of charging off on a new adventure.

“We will of course have to see this play as well.” Jaheira said smiling.

“They are lucky to have Viconia.” The drow said referring to herself in third person. “They did not ask you mongrel.”

“I would not waste my time on such frivolous things, drow” Jaheira answered.

“Come now, Jaheira. We are all heading for oblivion anyway.” Groder declared and Viconia laughed. The druid gave the pair a withering look.

“If you do not need me, I think I shall take a look at the baths here.” The boy said.

“Fine, we shall see about going to the Promenade and see what sort of equipment we can find.” Jaheira said. “One hour.” She told Gorder pointedly.

**

Groder waded a bit and then sank into the water, a pleasant feeling of warmth spreading throughout his body. He relaxed and tried to gather his thoughts. They had gained a new ally of sorts and Haer`Dalis had proved to be… interesting. Then there was Jaheira, what to do? He sank deeper into the water.

The baths were a new addition to the Five Flagons, an idea that had sprung from some late night conversations between its owner and the odd acting troupe. It was built from stone and the floor was covered with fine smooth wood. The same wood made up the walls of the bathing basin itself and its floor. There lay a constant steam over the room.

The boy didn’t hear the door open and close but he picked up the soft footsteps on the wooden floor. He tensed as the newcomer entered the water behind him. Turning his head he saw Viconia looking down at him. Blushing furiously he found a very captivating stone on the opposite wall.

The water sloshed behind him and two grey slender legs appeared on each side of him. Viconias ankles started rubbing against his sides. He tired to not think about the fact that there was only some water and a minimal piece of cloth separating them.

“What… what are you doing Viconia?”

“Relaxing…” She laughed. “We have to talk about things…”

“Jaheira?”

“Among others, I still don’t really know why we are hunting this mage of yours.”

“It’s payback for months of torture.” Groder said. “That is all. There is Imoen as well but...”

“Oh, yes. The small and annoying one.” Viconia said

“Annoying but cute.” He laughed and Viconia leaned in close.

“Hmm… Is Viconia not enough?”

Groder coughed and went on, rambling.

“I don’t actually remember much of it, the torture that is. One of the things I do remember is that he actually removed one of my limbs and reattached it. That and his never ending search for whatever it was he was looking for in my body.” The boy sighed. “It is all blurry now and matters little. I head for him on deaths wings anyways. I feel it shall be pleasant to see him dead.”

“And you, what have you been doing since we left the Gate?” He asked after a while.

He felt her lay a hand on his shoulder.

“After I left you in Baldurs Gate I travelled south.” Viconia began in a low voice. “I bought a shack of a house near Beregost and began repairing it.”

Groder said nothing about the mental image he got of Viconia the carpenter.

“I kept out of the way but socialized little with a neighbour, disguised of course. He was a farmer and brought me vegetables from time to time. We had a sort of amiable relationship and one day I foolish lowered my hood.”

Vicona went on about what happened after, the deception, the rape and the eventual killing of the farmer and his family. Groder nodded.

“They died? Good…”

“I was foolish; I had let myself become naïve to trust so easily. Trust is for the dead.”

Groder hesitated before putting a hand on her leg.

“You trust me don’t you?” He ventured.

There was silence for a while before Viconia snaked her arms around his chest. She held him for a while, neither of them spoke. She eased her grip and resorted to hanging on him.

“Do I make you nervous?” She asked, some of that teasing finding its way back into her voice.

“You know you do.” He smiled slightly, face still flushed.

Viconia moved and sank down into the water next to him. She sighed

“You must think me weak and foolish for unburdening on you”

He shook his head.

“I think if we don’t let go sometimes or we will go insane.”

“Maybe you are right.” Viconia said and changed the subject. “Now about the mongrel. I do not understand why let her come with us and she has already usurped your position as leader.”

“We need people to put between us and Irenicus when we finally meet him. I am not so sure that he will just be sitting on his arse and doing nothing wherever he is.”

“Ho? You intend to use her as a shield then?”

“Maybe, do you think we can throw her in front of a spell?”

Viconia laughed.

“But seriously.” Groder began. “We need allies and she is a good fighter, I have to give her that. Her sentimental promise to Gorion will keep her here a while but not for long. I want to get rid of Irenicus before she decides to strike out on her own. She is only useful to us for so long.”

Viconia raised a white eyebrow.

“Again, you would make a fine drow. But you would do well to be careful in your dealings with her. She is not an idiot.”

**

Jaheira looked around the promenade; reconstruction of the section that was caved in by Irenicus was going slowly. It stabbed at her heart to think that Khalid was trapped deep beneath her and with little chance of ever having a proper burial.

“Are you well?” Nalia asked.

“Yes, yes. Seeing this just brought back memories.” The druid looked around.

“Oh, I am sorry. I… I know it doesn’t mean much from a stranger” Nalia began.

“Do not worry child, I know you are sincere.” Jaheria answered then she sighed.

“Where are Groder and Viconia? We said an hour.” The druid looked around irritably.

Most of the promenade area was taken by a large circus and thick crowds milled about the colourful tents.

“Ehm… Jaheira?” Nalia ventured.

“Yes, Nalia?”

“What is their relationship like…? Groder and Viconia I mean? They seemed very close when we were in my home.” Nalia trailed off memories of her old home flowing into her mind.

“The drow will lead him on and he will allow it. Do not think it to be love girl, though they are alike in the sense that they have no idea what love is.” Jaheira thought for a bit. “I suppose he sometimes acts like any teenage boy although my experience with such is limited.”

“Viconia is like she is because she is Drow; there are no ways about it. The culture of the Drow is a barbaric one at heart. In Groders case I would say that it is a conscious effort, if he can be bitter and spiteful then it is easier to blame everything else but himself for his actions and problems.”

“But isn’t it horrible to live like that? “

“Who are we to say, young lovely?” Yoshimo interjected. “There is a saying in these lands that misery loves company.”

Jaheira snorted.

“That if anything is true.”

“I think I see them.” Nalia said and pointed.

A young blonde boy and a person deeply hidden in a cloak were walking towards them.

“One hour.” Jaheira stated when the pair had reached them.

“It is not like we are in mortal danger.” Groder said and waved Jaheiras complaint away. “How much gold do we have?”

“4000 and that is minus the 500 spent on our room.” Jaheria looked pointedly at Nalia. “The extra 1500 comes from the things we initially sold from the dungeon. I suggest we head for Ribald Batermans shop over there.” She pointed at an open door in the promenade wall. A gnome stood outside trying usher people in.

“Oh, I have heard about it. The adventurer’s mart isn’t it?” Nalia said excitedly.

The shop was cluttered. Its few patrons seemingly lost in a forest of things. Weapon racks stood next to armour racks that stood next to cupboards filled with potions and assorted gear for camping, mountaineering and everything else any adventurer could ever want. Ribald himself was a half-elf standing behind a large equally cluttered desk.

“Oh… Miss Jaheira.” He said when he saw the group. “You are not bringing any Harper trouble to my door I hope?”

“No, you can rest easy, Ribald. We are here to shop.” She answered.

The group fanned out to search for what they needed. Jaheira was looking at helmets, immediately discarding one with horns sticking out of it. Eventually she found an open faced helmet that wasn’t overly gaudy; it did have ridiculous dragon wings sticking out of its side though. Viconia procured a new shield to replace the one that had been broken in the De`Arnise keep. Yoshimo and Nalia were inspecting arrows and picking out the cheap but magical ones. Groder mulled over a rack of axes. He called Nalia over to see if any of them were enchanted. She picked out a semi large axe whose blade glinted faintly of red.

“This one, I think it has some fire enchantment. I though you preferred blades?”

“I do but axes are better, kills things faster.” The boy replied.

He hefted the axe and found that it wasn’t too heavy, he could get used to it. He swung it at the wall. Nothing happened to the blade, it didn’t even chip. It did leave a small mark on the wall and it seemed to have been scorched a bit.

“I wish you customer wouldn’t do things like that!” Ribald yelled from behind his desk.

“This seems fine, let us hope that it isn’t too costly.”

They piled the things onto Ribalds cluttered desk. The half-elf began looking through it.

“Three quivers of various enchanted arrows, the cheap kind: 300, three normal open-faced helmets: 150, a small shield: 50 and Azure Edge, that’s the axe: 1500. That comes to a total of: 2000.”

The group discussed it.

“The room at the Flagons is paid for a week in advance so that is no worry.” Nalia said.

“What are the extra helmets for?” Groder asked.

“They are for you and Viconia, since you did not think of it yourselves.” Jaheira said.

“Fine, we will be getting some gold for that play as well but we need to find something, anything that will generate some income.” Groder said.

“We are seeing the vampire’s tomorrow night.” Yoshimo said. “That may be lucrative.”

“We will see about that.” Jaheira said. “The axe is expensive but I would rather see it with us then one that will not affect creatures we may encounter.

After they had made their purchases they returned to The Five Flagons and found they had little to do. They spent the rest of the day relaxing. On the next day they decided to spend most of it sleeping until sundown and then head out for Athkatlas graveyard district and Valens mysterious mistress.

A little warning before we begin, this chapter contains naked people in a bath… together. Nothing graphic but well… hit your back button if stuff like that bothers you.

It depends on the people who are in that bath… I wouldn’t think Jaheira to be one of them, alas.

“They are lucky to have Viconia.” The drow said referring to herself in third person. “They did not ask you mongrel.”

Alas, Jaheira and Groder just don’t have that kind of chemistry.

The boy didn’t hear the door open and close but he picked up the soft footsteps on the wooden floor. He tensed as the newcomer entered the water behind him. Turning his head he saw Viconia looking down at him. Blushing furiously he found a very captivating stone on the opposite wall.

Vic’s come to play her games again.

“It’s payback for months of torture.” Groder said. “That is all. There is Imoen as well but...”

…but she’s obviously not all that important.

“After I left you in Baldurs Gate I travelled south.” Viconia began in a low voice. “I bought a shack of a house near Beregost and began repairing it.”

Groder said nothing about the mental image he got of Viconia the carpenter.

:) Stoppit, it’s killing my brain! Maybe get her to sing the lumberjack song?

There was silence for a while before Viconia snaked her arms around his chest. She held him for a while, neither of them spoke. She eased her grip and resorted to hanging on him.

I guess he’s pretty naïve with women, so it’s really easy for her to work her charms on him.

“Ho? You intend to use her as a shield then?”

“Maybe, do you think we can throw her in front of a spell?”

LOL! Alas, Jaheira’s not likely to do a Minsc berserker rage and just rush in without thinking. :)

“Again, you would make a fine drow. But you would do well to be careful in your dealings with her. She is not an idiot.”

I rather have him forget that and pay for it in the end. :D

Jaheira looked around the promenade; reconstruction of the section that was caved in by Irenicus was going slowly. It stabbed at her heart to think that Khalid was trapped deep beneath her and with little chance of ever having a proper burial.

Aww… :D

You would do well to stay away from it, there’s a horrible ogre in there.

“The drow will lead him on and he will allow it. Do not think it to be love girl, though they are alike in the sense that they have no idea what love is.” Jaheira thought for a bit. “I suppose he sometimes acts like any teenage boy although my experience with such is limited.”

I would say that her insight is 100% correct. :D

A young blonde boy and a person deeply hidden in a cloak were walking towards them.

“One hour.” Jaheira stated when the pair had reached them.

One hour, that’s harsh – hardly time for foreplay! :?

“Oh… Miss Jaheira.” He said when he saw the group. “You are not bringing any Harper trouble to my door I hope?”

Darn, no much luck in playing the Secret Agent here, everyone seems to know her. :D

Try doing that in your local grocery or DIY store.

“Fine, we will be getting some gold for that play as well but we need to find something, anything that will generate some income.” Groder said.

It seems like every other person has some side-quest to do, you need only to ask!

After they had made their purchases they returned to The Five Flagons and found they had little to do. They spent the rest of the day relaxing. On the next day they decided to spend most of it sleeping until sundown and then head out for Athkatlas graveyard district and Valens mysterious mistress.

They might agree to work for Bodhi, which I think would be pretty fun, but alas they still don’t have enough cash to pay her.

Well, trust is for the dead, and you're the son of the dead god of grisly death...

There was silence for a while before Viconia snaked her arms around his chest. She held him for a while, neither of them spoke. She eased her grip and resorted to hanging on him.

Aw :D

“Do I make you nervous?” She asked, some of that teasing finding its way back into her voice.

Ah, there she is.

“Maybe, do you think we can throw her in front of a spell?”

That's what Jansens are for!

Jaheira looked around the promenade; reconstruction of the section that was caved in by Irenicus was going slowly. It stabbed at her heart to think that Khalid was trapped deep beneath her and with little chance of ever having a proper burial.

Subtle, secret organization? Pfff.

He hefted the axe and found that it wasn’t too heavy, he could get used to it. He swung it at the wall. Nothing happened to the blade, it didn’t even chip. It did leave a small mark on the wall and it seemed to have been scorched a bit.

Yeah, there's nothing worse than customers that tamper with the merchandise! Especially if they set the alarm clocks to ring in the middle of the night.

“What are the extra helmets for?” Groder asked.

“They are for you and Viconia, since you did not think of it yourselves.” Jaheira said.

Perhaps they prefer to rely upon thick skulls? :D

Hm, it almost sounds classy.

Why it is classy. :D

The boy didn’t hear the door open and close but he picked up the soft footsteps on the wooden floor. He tensed as the newcomer entered the water behind him. Turning his head he saw Viconia looking down at him. Blushing furiously he found a very captivating stone on the opposite wall.

Oh dear, what is she up to now?

Playing her games...

The water sloshed behind him and two grey slender legs appeared on each side of him. Viconias ankles started rubbing against his sides. He tired to not think about the fact that there was only some water and a minimal piece of cloth separating them.

:)

Well, it IS Viconia.

“Oh, yes. The small and annoying one.” Viconia said

“Annoying but cute.” He laughed and Viconia leaned in close.

Heh :D

Valygars Chipmunk remark is kind of spot on with Imoen.

“Hmm… Is Viconia not enough?”

:?

He he...

Groder said nothing about the mental image he got of Viconia the carpenter.

:D

It is funny isn`t it?

“I was foolish; I had let myself become naïve to trust so easily. Trust is for the dead.”

Groder hesitated before putting a hand on her leg.

“You trust me don’t you?” He ventured.

Well, trust is for the dead, and you're the son of the dead god of grisly death...

He is alive :D

Viconia doesn`t answer him though.

There was silence for a while before Viconia snaked her arms around his chest. She held him for a while, neither of them spoke. She eased her grip and resorted to hanging on him.

Aw :D

Such quite moments are needed sometimes.

“Do I make you nervous?” She asked, some of that teasing finding its way back into her voice.

Ah, there she is.

It was a temporary lapse...

“Maybe, do you think we can throw her in front of a spell?”

That's what Jansens are for!

But... but Jansens are wonderful! I remember the time when my aunt...

Jaheira looked around the promenade; reconstruction of the section that was caved in by Irenicus was going slowly. It stabbed at her heart to think that Khalid was trapped deep beneath her and with little chance of ever having a proper burial.

:)

It is a sad fate :D

“The drow will lead him on and he will allow it. Do not think it to be love girl, though they are alike in the sense that they have no idea what love is.” Jaheira thought for a bit. “I suppose he sometimes acts like any teenage boy although my experience with such is limited.”

Yeah, One week in the biggest suite will be a toll on the gold.

People do? Good thing I won`t be working in retail.

“What are the extra helmets for?” Groder asked.

Heh, they would rather keep their precious noggins out of trouble all togheter.

“Come now, Jaheira. We are all heading for oblivion anyway.” Groder declared and Viconia laughed. The druid gave the pair a withering look.

;) Quoting Haer Dalis, are we?

The boy didn’t hear the door open and close but he picked up the soft footsteps on the wooden floor. He tensed as the newcomer entered the water behind him. Turning his head he saw Viconia looking down at him. Blushing furiously he found a very captivating stone on the opposite wall.

He laughed and Viconia leaned in close.

“Hmm… Is Viconia not enough?”

Groder coughed and went on, rambling.

Viconia and her games...

 That's very creepy...I like.

 Seems like good reasoning on Groder's part, and yay for inter party tension!

All true, a nice bit of insight.

After they had made their purchases they returned to The Five Flagons and found they had little to do. They spent the rest of the day relaxing. On the next day they decided to spend most of it sleeping until sundown and then head out for Athkatlas graveyard district and Valens mysterious mistress.

Interested to see how that will go! ;)

“Come now, Jaheira. We are all heading for oblivion anyway.” Groder declared and Viconia laughed. The druid gave the pair a withering look.
:D Quoting Haer Dalis, are we?
He rubbs off on people ;)
The boy didn’t hear the door open and close but he picked up the soft footsteps on the wooden floor. He tensed as the newcomer entered the water behind him. Turning his head he saw Viconia looking down at him. Blushing furiously he found a very captivating stone on the opposite wall.
It is a lot to take in for a teenage boy ;)

He laughed and Viconia leaned in close.

“Hmm… Is Viconia not enough?”

Groder coughed and went on, rambling.

Viconia and her games...
She will play this one well.

 That's very creepy...I like.
He may get creepier...

 Seems like good reasoning on Groder's part, and yay for inter party tension!
Which I conveniently forget from time to time

It will get wonderfully worse.

Jaheira has had a though week.
