This is how it feels to be Draconis the Half-Dragon, right now:

You begin to cast Time Stop. You are well aware that this is a more formidable party than you or your father had expected. Best to take them out quickly.

You are less than pleased, then, when the vampiress Bhodi lunges forward, blurring with unnatural speed, and slashes your arms three times, disrupting your spellcraft.

You are formidable in hand to hand combat yourself, however. You begin an exchange of blocks and blows with the vampiress. You are evenly matched; stalemate.

That, of course, leaves her entire party, including the Bhaalspawn Necromancer that is their leader, a Bhaalspawn archmage additional to him, a Bhaalspawn-turned-Vampire, a Bhaalspawn warrior, and yet another Bhaalspawn warrior ressurected. And all their allies and followers.

You begin to think you might be in trouble.

You summon your invisible stalkers, but they are no match for the skeletal warriors the Necromancer Bhaalspawn calls up. Then there are the elemental whirlwinds and the Fallen Planetar.

And all this time, the Vampiress has gone head-to-head without without breaking a sweat. She is not a better fighter than you, but being undead, she has reserves of stamina that even you simply cannot match.

You decide to call upon a surprise of your own, earlier than intended.

The transformation into Dragon has always been painful for you, but also liberating. It has the added advantage of healing your wounds and creating a shockwave of power taht knocks all of your enemies away, stunning those that can be stunned, and destroying the skeletal summons outright.

You breathe acid and fire on your enemies, then you vanish into invisibility.

---

Anomen and Korgan picked themselves up first. Anomen called upon True Sight, and the Dragon became visible, only to vanish again almost instantly.

"He's trying to prevent the mages from breaching his defenses," Anomen said.

"No problem," says Quinn, the Jester Gnome of Imoen's party. She sings shrilly off key, mocking and taunting the big lizard. It works. He appears, eyes blazing, nostrils fuming.

Anomen and Korgan lead the charge, closely followed by Sarevok and the Reaper.....
The road to the abyss may be paved with good intentions, but it is those with bad intentions that race down that road as fast as they can.
