The Battle of the Oasis, as Sarevok liked to think of it, went on for almost an entire day. Not, Sarevok was sure, that the enemy were any real threat to the party; it was just that there were so many of them, it took a while to work through them all.

He did not know exactly what spell Giovanni had cast on Bhodi and her undead brood to make them safe from sunlight, but it enabled them to unleash their undead fury on their enemies with great effect. Some of the foe turned and ran. Others, the fool clerics amongst the enemy, actually had the temerity to try to Turn their undead allies. This made some of the newest children waver, but it only made Bhodi angry as she tore through them.

The only real threat was the enemy mages, and once their own spellcasters unleashed the Planetar, that was the end of that.

Sarevok found himself genuinely enjoying this battle, as he hadn't relished a fight for some while. Not, really, since he had been truly alive and it had been his own quest to the godhood he sought. But that was over now.

He fought side by side with the Reaper, another of their kindred, and Anishai, the monk. He himself had no reason to betray Giovanni, but he wondered what the Reaper and Illasera's motivations were. Perhaps they would challenge battle after their mutual enemies were destroyed. It remained to be seen.

The Reaper was awesome to behold in battle, however, and coming from Sarevok that was a true complement. His hook and chain blurred and rip through the enemy as though they were blades of grass. The occasional kick of Anishai punctuated the grim lethality of the Reaper, as her foes were knocked haplessly backwards through the air to smash into their fellows, or the ground. Sarevok himself remained focused on what was in front of him, chopping his foes into pieces with a true Deathbringer's fury.

The fight was long and wearisome, and at the end of it they teleported back to the pocket plane. But Sarevok asked leave to remain, and Giovanni had understood. Sarevok needed to be in the living, breathing world. He did not wish to return to the planes again any time soon, if it could be helped.

The party returned next morning, and they set off for Amkethran.

When they finally arrived there, Sarevok narrowed his eyes. The desert fortress stirred unease in him.....
The road to the abyss may be paved with good intentions, but it is those with bad intentions that race down that road as fast as they can.

Got lost in a pocket plane(literally!) - am back.

I wonder what spell it was... ?

I wonder about this, too. I mean, really, what will they do, once it is over?

I liked this one. I guess, should Nameless One ever be freed from the Blood War, he'd feel like that also.
