Demon Reborn Continued

Christian sat in the chair dazed from the hit but conscious enough and aware of everything. Listening to the demon talk he could only wait for the speech to be over then he would proceed with his own agenda, but now sitting in the half lit room starring at a wannabe billionaire dressed demon he could only think about how he came to be here, how he came to live on earth amongst all the others like him and all the others not.

The world he knew, the girl… he could only zone out for the moment when he was hit hard.

“Are you paying attention?!” A hand slapped across his face hard “wake up you fool, I’m not going over this again with you and then we’ll see just how merciful your life will be.”

“I’m back, I’m listening” Christian brushed the hand away from him hoping to get the clone smell that had been flaring his nostrils away. “By the way you stink, what the hell is that smell.”

The Olsoph smirked for the moment and looked down “oh that, do you like it? Thought if I was coming topside I might as well smell the part.”

“Yea old man,” Christian said with a sneer, “you smell just like every other (human) I’ve come across.” The smirk left Olsoph’s face.

“Whatever, I didn’t come here to be human; I came to relay the message, now listen. You’re assignment is as followed and do try to keep up with it, I’m not coming back here to help you, now look!” Christian looked up to where in front of him appeared a table with a file on it. He picked up the file and glanced though its contents, a picture of a girl crossed his gaze. “Amy Jezebel my boy, that is your assignment and you are to protect her but don’t get involved with her at all, minimal contact is all that is required. Just make sure she stays safe.”

“What kind of shit job is this anyway” Christian stared at the picture, “why the hell is she so important?”

“The mater of why is none of your concern, you are sent here to do the job and if you do it you will be rewarded, if not then we can consider this meeting over and I’ll leave.”

“And the reward,” Christian stared at the Olsoph knowing what would say but wanted to hear it anyway. Olsoph sat down in a chair on the other side of the table.

For your services, yes we as the council will allow you back in to the land” Olsoph stood up quickly “but you will be supervised, and you will never see her again do you understand me!? We don’t want another contamination like last time.”

“Fine, fine” Christian said as he relaxed in his chair “so I got to baby sit this girl huh, how long?”

“Two months” Olsoph said with a rasp in his voice as though not meaning to say anything at all but Christian knew the date well, his feelings sank to the core of his body as his pulse raced.

“The day of the sacrifice:”

“I said it was none of your concern how long or how you do it just do it and this” the table was flung across the room “will all be over!” Olsoph was close, right in front of him breathing hard with fury. “Do you hate this place Christian; do you want to go back to the land away from here? I’m never going to say this again Christian but we need you to do this.” Olsoph stepped away once again giving Christian room to think.

Who am I protecting her from” Christian said calmly “who’s after her?” Olsoph was back to his business like manner in seconds.

“It has come to our attention that a group of clerics in the Holy Order of the Trinity has come across a document in the archives….” Olsoph paused for the moment for a careful choice of words. “Let’s just say that we’ve got similar interests in opportunity, and your only job is to protect her from them.”

“My weapons”, Christian spoke with authority now knowing that clerics were trained well some even better then others in many skills.

“You still have that sword don’t you. We haven’t got much to offer you accept this for this.” Olsoph places a small bottle in Christian’s hand “devils blood, it should counteract most of the protection circles and holy spells that you come across. Although the human in you” Christian sneered at him with a distasteful look “should already be immune to most of the holy crap they throw at you anyway, just beware of silver. The blood, use it sparingly” Olsoph leaned in close to whisper with a look of complete sincerity on his face “he doesn’t give this up that often you know. And now my boy I’m off, this meeting has gone on far too long and I have other engagements to fulfill.” With that last word he walked back into the shadow draped wall and was gone. Christian picked up the contents of the folder that had been scattered across the room and came across the picture again. He pocketed it and the bottle of blood and left the building with the folder in hand.

“I’ll get this done” he spoke to himself “and then I’ll go back with no regret of anything.” He walked on to the bus station and waited for the nine fifteen to come by, to take him home, his only sanctuary from them, from everything.
