Leggo my Notemeal!

1. Shooting shooting, and more shooting. Not much else. Those who like the shooting, enjoy. Those who don't, go grab a quick nap. We'll wake you when it's over. :)

2. Doubtful this'll mean anything to... well... anyone, but I wrote this chapter while playing the demo for Medal of Honor: Pacific Assault. So if you've played the demo, you might get a bit of a Guadacanal vibe. (I think that's where the demo level was set.)

3. Latter part of the chapter borrows from the last few scenes of Band of Brothers, Episode 7. Just replace Shifty Powers with Imoen. :)

“Tango down!”

“Threat neutralized!”

“Two more coming around the corner, Lynn, watch yourself!”

“Copy that. Stay tight, guys.”

“Hostile down!”

“Target eliminated!”

“Sound off! One is clear!”

“Three - all clear!”

“Four clear!”

“Five clear!”

“Seven is clear!”

“No more contacts, Lead. Harlequin and Spectre are inbound, your position. On station in one-dash-five seconds.”

“Acknowledged, Two. Holding for your arrival.” Raven took the time to turn and glance over her shoulder at the rest of her team. “Everyone ok?”

Vixen shrugged. “Well enough.”

Castle flashed a wolfish grin – one that was uncannily mirrored by the holographic hamster perched on his shoulder. “I have not yet begun to kick butt!” the big man rumbled enthusiastically, with an accompanying nod from Boo.

The diminutive Ratchet responded next. “Hale and hearty! Just like that bumper turnip crop of ’52… ah, it was beautiful… a more lovely sight these old eyes have never witnessed. In all my years…”

Falynn ignored him. “How about you, Cipher?”

For a second, Nalia didn’t realize that she was the one being addressed. She smiled sheepishly. “Sorry… gotta get used to this whole ‘callsign’ thing, I guess…” she muttered. “I’m ok, I think.”

“Of course she is…” Imoen said brightly as she and Valygar rejoined the rest of the squad. “She’s one of us now.”

Raven rolled her eyes. “Uh huh.” She pointed quickly towards her younger sister, then motioned with her hand. Imoen caught the gesture’s meaning right away. She eased her way around the side of the nearby building, taking care to make as little noise as possible. She pulled her rifle up to her shoulder, keeping it level even as she advanced to the head of the formation. Contrary to popular belief, it was exceedingly difficult to maintain a steady bead on a target when moving. There were tricks to compensate, of course – the odd “shuffle” that assault troopers used, for example, provided adequate forward motion while minimizing the up and down movement normal walking would create.

It was that technique which allowed her to put two shots within three inches of each other, even when moving at a fairly brisk clip. The orc that came barreling around the corner never even saw them coming, so quick were the two snap shots that plowed into his forehead.

“Target dispatched,” Harlequin said, almost nonchalantly.

“Contact! Left!” That was Raven, following directly behind. The older of the two Llyr sisters swung her torso to the side, turning and firing three shots in rapid succession, her laser rifle kicking hard against her shoulder. Another target went down, but he’d brought friends. A withering crossfire erupted between two squads of Dominion infantry, catching the Omegas between them.

“Scatter!” Falynn called to the rest of the group. They had to avoid getting pinned down in one location. Splitting the team, even temporarily, would reduce their ability to mass their weapons fire, but would make them much more difficult to outflank. It was a gamble, but one that had to be taken.

Half the team went in one direction, the other half scrambled for cover in the other. Falynn, Imoen, and Jaheira crouched behind a wrecked Dominion landspeeder; Minsc, Jan, Valygar and Nalia had taken refuge near a section of collapsed ferrocrete wall. They’d gotten lucky, managing to stay close enough to assist each other, but not close enough to invite a single grenade attack that would wipe them all out. Still, they were outnumbered by at least 2 to 1; it was something to be concerned about.

But if Falynn -was- concerned, she was doing a rather admirable job of hiding it. She pulled a fragmentation grenade from her belt and primed it. Imoen caught sight of the action and frowned, knowing what was to come.

Raven had a decent throwing arm, but the targets were fairly far away – too far away to hit with a toss from behind cover, and the angle was all wrong for a launcher-fired round – she’d need to stand up to make the throw, and that would make her a target… a big one.

Over with the other Omega detachment, Valygar was thinking much the same thing. “Suppression fire,” he calmly said to the three operatives with him, even as Falynn called out a similar “Covering fire!” from her own position.

The resulting barrage stymied the Dominion advance for only a brief moment, but it was long enough. As soon as the incoming fire had slackened sufficiently, Falynn sprang to her feet.

“FRAG OUT!” She pitched the hand grenade towards one of the clusters of enemy troopers, then ducked back down before the weapon exploded. She waited for a second or two, then set herself up for a sprint.

“No visual…” Imoen shook her head grimly. The smoke and grit in the air was obscuring her vision. The good news was that the Dominion wouldn’t be able to get a clean fix on their location. The bad was that the Confeds were likewise handicapped.

“It’ll clear,” Falynn said in response, almost eagerly bouncing on the balls of her feet, by now. What she said next dropped the ambient temperature by several degrees. “Sniper at 11 o’clock. Don’t miss, Immy.”

Without even waiting for a reply, she took to her feet, and bolted for the three-foot high sandbag wall that lay some distance away – the only other scrap of cover between her and her antagonists. As expected, at least one high-powered rifle tracked her movement. A snapped-off shot landed just behind her, and incidentally, clearly gave away the sniper’s location.

Harlequin felt her breath catch. She kept her fingers steady through sheer force of will, and peered with one eye through the sighting scope mounted atop her laser carbine.

Inhale.

Exhale.

Fire.

The Dominion sniper fell to the ground. Dead.

Over on the other front, Minsc and Valygar had taken it upon themselves to engage the other Dominion squad. A carefully placed shot (it tagged an officer) alongside a torrent of gunfire had done a remarkable job of routing those enemy units. Even now the tattered remnants of the Dominion unit were pulling back to regroup. They’d be back, of course, and in greater numbers, but for the moment, there was room to breathe.

“Omegas! Rally up!”

“Rally up!” Imoen called out, echoing Falynn’s order. The six other members of Omega Black scanned the area for any remaining hostiles, then rushed to their leader’s side.

“Falynn,” Jaheira began with a scowl, “If Gorion saw you do that, he’d be very upset…”

Nice moment. :D

Oh no, he's going again . . .

Falynn ignored him.

Best move. :)

For a second, Nalia didn’t realize that she was the one being addressed. She smiled sheepishly. “Sorry… gotta get used to this whole ‘callsign’ thing, I guess…”

Don't worry, you will. ;)

Move it!

Crap . . .

Hehehe!

Well hurry up, big guy, or there will be no butts to kick left – the others sure are efficient!

Yeah, that last word was kind of important to mention. ;)

Shooting and talking are both equally enjoyable to me when done well, and you do tend to do them quite well I think.

2. Doubtful this'll mean anything to... well... anyone, but I wrote this chapter while playing the demo for Medal of Honor: Pacific Assault. So if you've played the demo, you might get a bit of a Guadacanal vibe. (I think that's where the demo level was set.)

In terms of Guadalcanal it means very little, but it does help me figure out why theres so much authentic sounding militarese.

Castle flashed a wolfish grin – one that was uncannily mirrored by the holographic hamster perched on his shoulder. “I have not yet begun to kick butt!” the big man rumbled enthusiastically, with an accompanying nod from Boo.

Minsc with a wolfish grin is not something I want to see shortly after having committed an act of eeeeeeeevil.

Raven had a decent throwing arm, but the targets were fairly far away – too far away to hit with a toss from behind cover, and the angle was all wrong for a launcher-fired round – she’d need to stand up to make the throw, and that would make her a target… a big one.

Kids, don't try this one at home!

“FRAG OUT!”

Oh sure, warn them it's coming...

;)

The Dominion sniper fell to the ground. Dead.

Oh good, because I'd be worried if he fell to the ground laughing.

“Falynn,” Jaheira began with a scowl, “If Gorion saw you do that, he’d be very upset…”

Oh yeah. Then again, I think he'd be pretty upset with most of the risks she takes even if he thought they were worthwhile. This is his wittle girl after all.

Great chapter, Alpha,

And how am I supposed to sleep with all this shooting going on? Hmm?

I'd rather not. Just saying. :D

“Tango down!”

Oooh. Tangos. :D

Oh, and if you ever get the chance, Tango drinks.. very good.

“Target eliminated!”

That just brings me back to my days of spending hours playing UT. :D :D

“Acknowledged, Two. Holding for your arrival.” Raven took the time to turn and glance over her shoulder at the rest of her team. “Everyone ok?”

Vixen shrugged. “Well enough.”

Good. It is not permitted to blast holes in Vixen. It makes us... grumpy. :)

Castle flashed a wolfish grin – one that was uncannily mirrored by the holographic hamster perched on his shoulder. “I have not yet begun to kick butt!” the big man rumbled enthusiastically, with an accompanying nod from Boo.

Oooh. I like it. Reminiscent of good ol John Paul Jones, but with a decidedly Minsc flavor. :D

For a second, Nalia didn’t realize that she was the one being addressed. She smiled sheepishly. “Sorry… gotta get used to this whole ‘callsign’ thing, I guess…” she muttered. “I’m ok, I think.”

Bran: "She will. She adapts quickly. Just don't ever let her get her hands on the environmental controls when she's in a bad mood."

“Of course she is…” Imoen said brightly as she and Valygar rejoined the rest of the squad. “She’s one of us now.”

Bran: "Nalia, be afraid. Be very afraid."

It was that technique which allowed her to put two shots within three inches of each other, even when moving at a fairly brisk clip. The orc that came barreling around the corner never even saw them coming, so quick were the two snap shots that plowed into his forehead.

Imoen V.: "Three inches? At close range? Girl, you're slipping."

“Target dispatched,” Harlequin said, almost nonchalantly.

Imoen V.: "Yeah, can't crow too much about dropping someone that poorly."

Not good. Getting stuck in crossfire is a bad bad place to be.

Sticking someone else in it. FUN!

“Scatter!” Falynn called to the rest of the group. They had to avoid getting pinned down in one location. Splitting the team, even temporarily, would reduce their ability to mass their weapons fire, but would make them much more difficult to outflank. It was a gamble, but one that had to be taken.

Or to hit with one grenade.

See, told ya. :P

And why are there always wrecked cars in all battle scenes? Not that I'm complaining. One of those great mysteries I suppose.

Raven had a decent throwing arm, but the targets were fairly far away – too far away to hit with a toss from behind cover, and the angle was all wrong for a launcher-fired round – she’d need to stand up to make the throw, and that would make her a target… a big one.

And happy orcsies likes big targets.

Minsc: "So does Minsc! It means I can use rockets!"

Bran: "There are times I wonder about the wisdom of allowing him near high explosives. Then I see what he can do. And I don't wonder any more."

Jaheira; "Yes, you just start living in fear."

“FRAG OUT!” She pitched the hand grenade towards one of the clusters of enemy troopers, then ducked back down before the weapon exploded. She waited for a second or two, then set herself up for a sprint.

Boom. Orc bits. All over the place!

oooh! Gibs!

“No visual…” Imoen shook her head grimly. The smoke and grit in the air was obscuring her vision. The good news was that the Dominion wouldn’t be able to get a clean fix on their location. The bad was that the Confeds were likewise handicapped.

Makes it alot easier to disengage at least. And if you've got good thermal gear or mag scanners, you can find them.

“It’ll clear,” Falynn said in response, almost eagerly bouncing on the balls of her feet, by now. What she said next dropped the ambient temperature by several degrees. “Sniper at 11 o’clock. Don’t miss, Immy.”

She won't.

Always the problem with actually shooting.

Harlequin felt her breath catch. She kept her fingers steady through sheer force of will, and peered with one eye through the sighting scope mounted atop her laser carbine.

Inhale.

Exhale.

Fire.

The Dominion sniper fell to the ground. Dead.

Imoen V.: *nods* "Good work. I have to give you that."

One does it with style. The other.. with brute force.

Bran: "Two guys you're always happy to have backing you up."

“Falynn,” Jaheira began with a scowl, “If Gorion saw you do that, he’d be very upset…”

Being decoy.. never a favorite thing for loved ones to watch.

Killboard:

Llyr, F.: 8
Llyr, I.: 11

Immy and V are tied! Falynn in second, with Minsc just behind! It's still a tight race and anyone's game!

Fun and well paced action bit my friend. Very satisfying. :D

But I just woke up . . . I'm not tired now . . .

:)

They say one of the first things you learn in the military is how to go to sleep anywhere, at any time, because you never know when you'll have to go days without it. Not that I want to go through Boot Camp, but I think that'd be a good "skill" to have. :)

Don't worry, you will.

Provided she doesn't go KIA, yes. :)

Crap . . .

Yeah... kinda a lousy situation to put your kid sister in. "There's a sniper over there. I'm gonna draw his fire so you can spot him. If you miss, though, he'll kill me... so... don't miss."

Yeah, that's harsh. :)

#7 Guest_AlphaMonkey_*

Well, I’ll try to find something amusing here, still…

Don't dig too much. Dig too deep, and you might find the ugly crap center once you get past all the other stuff. :)

Well hurry up, big guy, or there will be no butts to kick left – the others sure are efficient!

Except for Nalia... she's still not too good with the orc killin'...

How does she do it? No, I mean, really?

Raven: "Trade secret."

...

Raven: "Ok, I'll tell you. Pretty simple, really... sonic nullifiers..." (Pulls futuristic earplugs out of her ears) "Work like a charm." :)

Split up, gang!

In the current incarnation of the Scooby Gang, Grey Delisle plays Daphne. So I guess that means Cipher = Daphne. :)

Makes me think of whether I should push the Throwing skill in Fallout 2… hmmm… is it useful?

Um... useful? It could be... but is it, really? Er, not so much. I didn't use it much, myself. And according to Ursula, trying to use grenades always did her party more harm than good. (Shrug)

I think if you wanted a grenadier-type character, you could make it work, but I stuck with a sniper-type.

Wow, something like that sure puts the pressure on… but we know she can cope with that.

True. She can hit clutch shots, but that doesn't mean she likes the idea of Falynn running out there to draw fire just to set up a shot.

I said it before and I’ll say it again… Goooooo, Vixen!!!

Riiight. :)

In terms of Guadalcanal it means very little, but it does help me figure out why theres so much authentic sounding militarese.

You mean, aside from the fact that practically everything I've ever written for this has "authentic-sounding militarese?"

:)

Minsc with a wolfish grin is not something I want to see shortly after having committed an act of eeeeeeeevil.

Eeep. Hell, no. Not unless you'd always wanted to see what your intestines looked like when exposed to outside air.

Kids, don't try this one at home!

I think that goes without saying. :) You don't want kids playing with active fragmentation grenades.

Oh sure, warn them it's coming...

Eh, they don't speak Basic, anyway. :)

Oh good, because I'd be worried if he fell to the ground laughing.

Really? I wouldn't be. If he were on the ground laughing, he'd make an easy target, and so it's not like he'd be much of a threat. :)

Then again, I think he'd be pretty upset with most of the risks she takes even if he thought they were worthwhile. This is his wittle girl after all.

Pretty much. He was never happy about either of them joining the military. Then again, that's often the case for any parent with any child. Parents are so protective. "You'll understand when you have your own kids," my Mom always says. Is she right? I have no idea. :)

And how am I supposed to sleep with all this shooting going on? Hmm?

See my comment to Serena: First thing you learn in Basic. Sleep any time, anywhere, under any circumstances. :)

I'd rather not. Just saying.

I like Shifty, though. He's cool. "Naw, I'm not that good a shot. Now my pa, he could shoot the wings off a fly at a hunnerd yards. He's a good shot..."

(Or however that goes. :) )

Oh, and if you ever get the chance, Tango drinks.. very good.

I am not familiar with these. Do tell!

That just brings me back to my days of spending hours playing UT.

Brings me back to Sunday night when I played Counterstrike until like 4:00 A.M. :)

Good. It is not permitted to blast holes in Vixen. It makes us... grumpy.

Theo mad! Theo smash! :)

Bran: "Nalia, be afraid. Be very afraid."

Cipher: "Oh, believe me, I am. I'm more worried about my 'teammates' than I am about the Dominion. Not a good sign."

Imoen V.: "Three inches? At close range? Girl, you're slipping."

Harlequin: "You put two holes into a single coin from 20 feet away, with an M4 carbine, while moving, and we'll talk. Until then, shut it."

Sticking someone else in it. FUN!

Unless, of course, sticking someone in a crossfire involves crossing the streams. Then that's bad.

And why are there always wrecked cars in all battle scenes?

Dude. They trashed the entire motor pool, remember? Painted it with a laser, dropped a 4000 lb. bomb on it?

:)

Jaheira; "Yes, you just start living in fear."

Raven: "As addled as Minsc can be, he's never forgotten to point all the Claymores -away- from us."

She won't.

I'm confident that she won't miss. So is Falynn. But I can think of someone who'd protest otherwise. :P

One does it with style. The other.. with brute force.

Bran: "Two guys you're always happy to have backing you up."

Yeah, well, who cares what methods they use? They're both ridiculously effective. :P

Immy and V are tied! Falynn in second, with Minsc just behind! It's still a tight race and anyone's game!

Snerk. Something like that. :)

Figure I gotta keep the numbers close, or it'll get boring, real fast. :D

zzzzzzzzzzzzzzzz..........yeah, right..

Castle flashed a wolfish grin – one that was uncannily mirrored by the holographic hamster perched on his shoulder. “I have not yet begun to kick butt!” the big man rumbled enthusiastically, with an accompanying nod from Boo.

yeah...that's also why infantry tactics emphasize "sprint and cover"...you really can't fire accurately while moving...and shooting from the hip is just plain bad...annoys the locals and gives them a chance to shoot you...

Over with the other Omega detachment, Valygar was thinking much the same thing. “Suppression fire,” he calmly said to the three operatives with him, even as Falynn called out a similar “Covering fire!” from her own position.

"MAD MINUTE!!!" (just open up with everything you've got, for a few seconds...) actually, they make most infantry weapons automatic not for lethality, since aimed single rounds still remain the primary cause of battlefield injuries, but to keep the enemy's head down with suppression fire...at least one school of military theory says that instead of shooting at 500 rounds per minute for most modern infantry assault rifles, they should shoot at 100-200 rounds a minute...that's also why the new m-16 a2 only has 3 round burst capability...

“It’ll clear,” Falynn said in response, almost eagerly bouncing on the balls of her feet, by now. What she said next dropped the ambient temperature by several degrees. “Sniper at 11 o’clock. Don’t miss, Immy.”

yeah...the only practical way to take care of a sniper in urban situation...except airstrikes or artillery, is to have a target make a run for it, forcing the sniper to expose himself to take the shot...

“Falynn,” Jaheira began with a scowl, “If Gorion saw you do that, he’d be very upset…”

so would her insurance agent... :D

I don't think I've ever eaten Life cereal. :(

yeah...that's also why infantry tactics emphasize "sprint and cover"...you really can't fire accurately while moving...and shooting from the hip is just plain bad...annoys the locals and gives them a chance to shoot you...

Exactly. If you can help it, you never fire while on the move. It just doesn't work. You find a good location to shoot from, pop off a round or two, then start moving again.

It's a necessity in, say, the Rainbow 6 games... and even in Counterstrike... as I've found out the hard way. :D I can't help it. I'm still very much a Quake player at times.

actually, they make most infantry weapons automatic not for lethality, since aimed single rounds still remain the primary cause of battlefield injuries, but to keep the enemy's head down with suppression fire...

Yep. Minsc's SAW is more for suppression fire than actually hosing down swarms of enemies. It'd be different if it were like a static machine gun emplacement, though. Those really are intended to bring down a rush of infantry.

that's also why the new m-16 a2 only has 3 round burst capability...

That and if you're panicked (or just plain stupid) enough to empty your entire 30-round clip in rapid succession, you're likely going to get yourself killed right afterwards.

Personally, I almost wish they'd go back to the M-14. Bigger round, more stopping power. Totally inaccurate on full auto, but it was supposed to be a 1-shot/1-kill type of weapon, anyway. I always give my character a 7.62 mm rifle in Jagged Alliance 2. :P For one, the game plays a hearty "CRACK!" sound whenever you fire one. ;)

yeah...the only practical way to take care of a sniper in urban situation...except airstrikes or artillery, is to have a target make a run for it, forcing the sniper to expose himself to take the shot...

Falynn knows it. So does the rest of the squad, but Jaheira obviously doesn't like the idea. Even if it -is- a textbook maneuver.

how is medal of honor???

I've only played the demo for Pacific Assault. I liked it well enough. The reviews for the full game, though, have been mediocre at best. I don't think I'll be getting the full version.

Medal of Honor: Allied Assault, though, was, of course, brilliant. Excellent game. I definitely recommend it if you're up for a good WW2-based first person shooter. Call of Duty is also very good, and from a technological standpoint, it's a superior game. I'd recommend either.

Leggo my Notemeal!

1. Shooting shooting, and more shooting. Not much else. Those who like the shooting, enjoy. Those who don't, go grab a quick nap. We'll wake you when it's over. :)

Seeing how people behave in battle is the only way to understand them: Echani Philosophy courtesy of KotOR2

3. Latter part of the chapter borrows from the last few scenes of Band of Brothers, Episode 7. Just replace Shifty Powers with Imoen. :)

No, I think I'll keep her as she is, but thanks for the offer.
:)

Vixen shrugged. “Well enough.”

Still sulking because you won't talk to me but otherwise OK

Castle flashed a wolfish grin – one that was uncannily mirrored by the holographic hamster perched on his shoulder. “I have not yet begun to kick butt!” the big man rumbled enthusiastically, with an accompanying nod from Boo.

John Paul Jones, right. What a wonderful Scotsman he was.

The diminutive Ratchet responded next. “Hale and hearty! Just like that bumper turnip crop of ’52… ah, it was beautiful… a more lovely sight these old eyes have never witnessed. In all my years…”

The reason Jan is pushing a cart around the streets of Athkatla: Other gnomes can't stand his stories :D

Pay attention Nalia, this IS a battlefield.

“Of course she is…” Imoen said brightly as she and Valygar rejoined the rest of the squad. “She’s one of us now.”

Which does make me question her mental state.

Only really works if you move slowly, which makes you an easier target. Otherwise, run and let someone else cover you.

“Falynn,” Jaheira began with a scowl, “If Gorion saw you do that, he’d be very upset…”

That's Jaheira, wondering if Falynn is trying to get killed as a way to avoid dealing with her problems.

Killboard:

Llyr, F.: 8
Llyr, I.: 11
Marael, J.: 4
Vaonnor, M.: 7 (Infantry: 5, Vehicles: 2)
Jansen, J.: 3 (Infantry: 2, Vehicles: 1)
Corthala, V.: 11 (Infantry: 10, Vehicles: 1)
De’Arnisse, N.: 1

I'm backing Jan to come through with a late surge. Go Jan, Go Jan. :)

1. I need to get myself a copy of that game. I've been on a nostalgia kick lately. I polished off Mercenaries for the PS2, but lately I've been playing Heroes of Might and Magic 3 and Crusader: No Remorse (Got it to work on DOS Box! WOOT!)

2. I actually very much believe in that philosophy, hence my love of things like, say, Band of Brothers. In my opinion, you get to see quite a bit of character development, even if it looks like all they're doing is running around trying not to get shot.

No, I think I'll keep her as she is, but thanks for the offer.

Guess that means we're not replacing Falynn with Carwood Lipton, huh?

John Paul Jones, right. What a wonderful Scotsman he was.

Wouldn't surprise me. You think this one was bad? I got a real doozy coming up a few chapters down the line. Scared me just writing it.

Which does make me question her mental state.

I think we can be quite certain that exposure to the rest of the team will cause it to degenerate slowly, but surely.

Only really works if you move slowly, which makes you an easier target. Otherwise, run and let someone else cover you.

Aye. They're not moving all that quickly, though, and Imoen is supposed to be a remarkable shot, even on the move. Plus, since she's using a fairly controllable weapon, that helps some, as well. I figure she's the most accurate shot of the "assault" personnel.

That's Jaheira, wondering if Falynn is trying to get killed as a way to avoid dealing with her problems.

Not a bad catch. While that's not necessarily what -I- intended for her, I can certainly see how Jaheira would be concerned that that was the case. So, like I said, good catch.

I'm backing Jan to come through with a late surge. Go Jan, Go Jan.

:D Maybe I should start taking bets.

Where's my blankie... Just kidding. Shooting is fine, to a point.

I'm sure. :(

It would, at that. *tries to figure out what callsign I'd like for myself*

Interesting, I hadn't thought of that, though of course I understand that running and shooting at the same time would be hard.

“It’ll clear,” Falynn said in response, almost eagerly bouncing on the balls of her feet, by now. What she said next dropped the ambient temperature by several degrees. “Sniper at 11 o’clock. Don’t miss, Immy.”

Of course she won't. :)

Fire.

The Dominion sniper fell to the ground. Dead.

Told you so. :)

Where's my blankie...

Over there. (Points while hiding a "Smallpox Blankets" sign behind his back)

...

What?

It would, at that. *tries to figure out what callsign I'd like for myself*

Er... I don't know... we could just call you "Doc"... or maybe "Hatchet" if we wanted to get mean about it... :)

Or, a friend of mine once had a Star Wars RPG character who was a doctor. But the first combat situation he was in, he accidentally rolled a 1 on his wild die, and so instead of stunning his target, I decided the shot would kill him in a very horrible, painful way.

My friend Brian joked about a malpractice suit, and that became the character's nickname. "Malpractice."

...

That story always makes me smile. :D

Of course she won't.

She kinda can't miss. If she did, Falynn would be dead, and that'd end this thing real quick, wouldn't it? :)

2. Doubtful this'll mean anything to... well... anyone, but I wrote this chapter while playing the demo for Medal of Honor: Pacific Assault. So if you've played the demo, you might get a bit of a Guadacanal vibe. (I think that's where the demo level was set.)

Personally, I'm getting sick and tired of all these Real-life war-FPS's : they're all so alike. Can't wait for FEAR, Republic Commando, Stalker and Hitman Blood Money, though technically speaking only the first one is a true FPS.

“Sound off! One is clear!”

“Three - all clear!”

“Four clear!”

“Five clear!”

“Seven is clear!”

 So many numbers... :P 8)

“Scatter!” Falynn called to the rest of the group. They had to avoid getting pinned down in one location. Splitting the team, even temporarily, would reduce their ability to mass their weapons fire, but would make them much more difficult to outflank. It was a gamble, but one that had to be taken.

Let's hope it works.

Still, the odds will be even, like Spock once used to say... Of course, he was dead 20 minutes later in the film. 8)

(Drool) Republic Commando... I've played the demo, and I just know that when the full game gets here, I'm gonna be hooked. This game is like a dream come true - a dream I've been harboring for years. It's Special-Forces-type action in the SW universe. It's just... oooohh... ooooooh... 8)

But yeah, release date is supposed to be tomorrow, and I pre-ordered it direct from LucasArts. Only time I've ever pre-ordered a game in my life. I just hope it either gets here before I get too deep into KotOR2, or after I've played myself out on it... because having to split my attention between the two would be enough to make me cry. 8)

So many numbers...

"Authorization code: Alpha 0-5-3-4-4-9-1-6 Delta Delta Echo Zulu 9-5-1-1-0-7..."

Now that's a lot of numbers.

True, true... 8)

Imoen is ahead in the polls!

Of course! Just like every election, it's a popularity contest! :P

I'll wait for the reviews, though. A game like that falls and stands on it's party AI, something that was abhorrent in the Star Trek squad FPS games.

But I have very high hopes. The think that impressed me the most in the demo is that my squadmates actually did what I wanted them to do. 8) A true rarity in Squad-based games.

But yeah, release date is supposed to be tomorrow, and I pre-ordered it direct from LucasArts. Only time I've ever pre-ordered a game in my life. Kotor 2 is worth the attention too. Everybody seems to be annoyed by the ending (and Darth Nihilus, wholly undeserved criticism towards the Dark dude.), and it does have some faults. But the final confrontation amd the end dialogs more than makes up for it.

"Authorization code: Alpha 0-5-3-4-4-9-1-6 Delta Delta Echo Zulu 9-5-1-1-0-7..."

Now that's a lot of numbers.

What kind of idiot savant would be able to remember those numbers when the bullets are flying around your skull? Wouldn't 1-2-3-4-5 be simpler? 8)

Of course! Just like every election, it's a popularity contest! :P

Hmm, let's see. Which one is bribed by the tabacco industry, which one is lying to the electorate and which one has sordid dealings with interns and which one is planning to break every promise they made after they've been elected? :D

True enough. The AI is key. Just like in, say, the Rainbow 6 games.

I thought the AI backup in Elite Force wasn't all that bad. And that game is also the only good thing I think they -ever- did with the Voyager license, and that includes the actual show.

Anyway, I think they shipped my copy of Republic Commando. Should have a better idea of what it's like in a few days. Oooooooooh boy!

KotOR2 is doing a number on me, though. Logged a little over 10 hours, I think, and just now made it to Telos. Yikes. Looks like I got a LOT to go.
