“My Fair Lady”

Elshana sat down at the bar with a sigh. It had been a long day.

“Ain't got much time for talking,” Bernard said. “It's business as usual 'round here. The usual?”

“Yeah, please.” Elshana knocked her hair back from her face. The others had gone upstairs already, but she wasn’t tired yet.

“Sure.” After a few moments, he put a mug of ale on the counter before her. She slid a few coppers across the counter, and took a sip.

“Hello, my dear lady,” A figure sat down next to her, a red-headed elf with bright eyes. “I have not seen you here before, lovely creature. How do you do?”

“Just fine, thank you.” Elshana responded with a nod, then turned away from him, taking another sip of her drink.

“Only fine, my elven beauty?” He asked, a note of disappointment in his voice. She turned back to him.

“What d’you want? Who are you?” This was getting annoying.

“My name is Salvanas, fair one, and all I want is to be entwined within your arms.”

He must be drunk, Elshana thought. “Right . . . Well, I --” then she broke off, mid-sentence. “Take your hand off my thigh.” She ordered, her voice cold.

“My dearest --” he began, but she wouldn’t let him get any further then that.

“Now.” she repeated, very obviously pulling a dagger with her right hand, and brandishing it before him. “Or I’ll remove your hand from your wrist.”

At that he paled, and drew his hand back. “But I am helpless to reach out for you, my beauty,” he pleaded. “Your bright eyes, your raven hair, your --”

He didn’t get the next word out, as Elshana stood up, drink forgotten, and punched him square in the nose. He screamed something unintelligible, both hands trying to stem the flow of blood from his nose. Elshana watched him run from the inn.

“I didn’t need the dagger after all.” She observed, sheathing it and sitting back down.

At that moment, Bernard appeared from the back room. “What happened? I heard someone screaming?” He didn’t sound too concerned, but that didn’t surprise Elshana. This was the Coronet, after all.

She shrugged. “A slight disagreement,” she said, “but it’s been taken care of.” She downed the rest of her mug, then grinned. “A second round, Bernard,” she said with a grin, tossing over the coppers. “I feel like celebrating.”
