Introductions

*************************************************************

Everyone arrived at the Firecam estate as planned and were immediately conducted into a spacious sitting room. Keldorn and Minsc were there, and both looked very pleased. Soris assumed their mission went well. Also within the room were Keldorn’s wife, Maria, and his two daughters, Leona and Vesper. Soris was proud that he remembered their names. Keldorn and Maria were seated on a couch in one part of the room, speaking quietly. At the other end of the room sat Minsc and the two girls. Minsc was dramatically telling a story using huge sweeps of his mighty arms. Both girls were giggling furiously, and listened with rapt attention. Little Vesper held Boo in one of her hands and gently stroked his fur. The hamster seemed to be enjoying himself immensely and did not hesitate to add to the story, adding chirps and squeaks at appropriate moments.

“My Lord, Lady, I believe our guests have arrived.” The servant led the four remaining party members into the room.

Keldorn smiled warmly and moved to introduce everyone, but it was Minsc who got in the first word.

“Oh yes, mighty Soris is here! He has been off today forging many magic weapons, but now he is here to assist in the story telling! I was just telling them the part where you destroyed the evil undead lich to get your Staff. See the staff girls. That is a Staff of the Magi, and a mighty staff it is. It has whacked the buttocks of many many evil doers.”

Oh yes, mighty Soris. Maybe we should ask the pretty lady if she thinks you are mighty? Eric begin to chuckle and Soris blushed furiously.

You best be quiet oh wondrous familiar. In case you didn’t notice, there are children present, specifically young female children.

And your point is?

You better be on your best behavior, or…

Are you threatening me two-legs, because if you are…

Soris chose that moment to step aside, revealing the little tiger behind him.

“Oh look Leona, he has a kitty.” Vesper put Boo down and ran over to the new comers. She stopped just before Eric.

“Oh, he’s very nice. I bet he would just love for you to pet him. He really likes it when you tickle his tummy.” Vesper giggled and began to tickle the little beast.

He mewed helplessly. Just you wait Soris. When this is all over, I’ll…

Soris just grinned. Eric let out another pitiful mew. Vesper looked concerned.

“What’s the matter kitty? Are you hungry?” At the mention of food, the little animal grew still and looked at her pleadingly.

This might not be so bad.

“I think he probably is. Do you think you might have something for him?”

The little girl brightened. “I bet they’ll have something in the kitchen. Come on kitty.” She unceremoniously scooped up the forlorn-looking Eric and lugged him off with her sister in tow. Soris stood there with a dumb look on his face while Viconia chuckled.

“Ahh, yes, Maria. You’ve already met Minsc and Boo.” The big man had come to stand with the rest of the party and beamed when the older man mentioned his name. “Standing next to him, with the pink hair, is Imoen. She is the one we set out to rescue.” Maria gave the young woman a slow nod, her gaze halting on Imoen’s bright pink hair. Imoen gave her a mischievous smile.

“I promise I won’t tell your daughters that I have extra hair dye.” Imoen grinned mischievously.

Maria returned the smile. “And I may just let you keep your hair.” Maria gave the younger woman a wry grin before the introduction continued.

“Here we have Jaheira, our resident druid and one of our healers.”

“So you are the one responsible for putting him back together once he’s done fighting.” Maria stroked her husband’s arm affectionately. “You have my thanks, and my condolences. Your job must be terribly difficult.”

“Keldorn gave her a feigned look of injury, and Jaheira chuckled. “It has been a challenge, but he is hardly the worst one.” She arched an eyebrow in Soris’ direction.

“Yes, Soris has to have his own, personal, healer.” Imoen placed extra emphasis on the word personal, and the entire partly laughed as Soris turned a delicate shade of pink.

The paladin gave another warm smile. “And the blushing young man is our leader, Soris. I have come to respect both his ability on the battlefield and his character as a leader.” Soris turned a brilliant shade of scarlet and stared at his shoes.

Maria looked at him with kind, understanding eyes. “I’m very pleased to meet you.”

Finally, with only a slight trace of apprehension apparent on his face, Keldorn turned to the final party member. “Maria, this is Viconia, our other healer. Viconia, my wife, Maria.”

The two women looked at each other in silence. Finally Maria spoke. “I am please to make your acquaintance, and I look forward to speaking with you further. It is not every day that my husband brings ‘creature of evil’ home to have dinner.” She gave Viconia a warm smile that completely encompassed her eyes.

The Drow could tell that the paladin’s wife definitely did not share his views on all subjects. Viconia thought she might even like the woman. Perhaps the evening would not be as long as she originally thought.

The introductions concluded just in time. A servant came in with the announcement that the food was ready, and the entire group settled down for a long, satisfying meal.
