Okay! Tolkien Mud Wrestling, here we go...! Arwen and Eowyn in one pit, and for the ladies, we'll have Aragorn and Legolas...

Well, I'm sure they'd enjoy it, but I doubt Aragorn vs. Legolas will be much of a fight. Strider would just snap the elf in half.

-----

And be fair, Arven in the movie didn't do anything other than... cry... smooch with Aragorn... then cry.... then cry some more... and finally smooch again and get married.

Well, there was that deal where she's carrying Frodo to Rivendell. That was important. :x

Oh, c'mon! Eowyn certainly has more style than to do THAT.

Maybe. But this is all hypothetical, anyway.

And why on earth should she fight for Aragorn, a loon that doesn't appreciate her in the first place? BOO!!!

Exactly. She wouldn't. She's all hooked up with Faramir, now, and she seems pretty happy. I got the impression from the books that she was quite pleased with how things turned out. Not sure about the movies since they kinda just glossed over that part.

Theo: I could understand if they were fighting for me. Not that I am interested, but that would at least make SOME sense.

(Cough) Bullsh- (Cough)

Er... sorry about that... think I'm getting a cold. :)

-----

For the cliffhanger-ry ending.

Righty-o...

There's a few scraps of leftover spleen still lying around on the examination table if you wanna poke 'em.

just like to say i like new chapter

Yay! :x

eowyn rocks

YAY!

and i like liv tyler

WOO!

but whatshername is just so cute...

Yeah... I have no clue who you're talking about... er... could you be a little less vague, please?

why am i reminded of the wing commander movie??? ok, i watched it for saffron burroughs!!!!

I'm kinda ambivalent about her. And I was kinda iffy about the entire cast of that movie. Freddie Prinze, Jr. as Chris Blair? Er. No. That other guy as Maniac? No. Whoever that guy was as Paladin? For crying out loud, he wasn't even Scottish in the movie. Pretty much the only thing I was ok with was Tolwyn. I expected Malcolm McDowell, I got David Warner... who is just danged nifty. So, all right... that's one casting thing I thought was good. The rest? Blecch.

Anywho... er... ahem... why are you reminded of the WC movie, where Deveraux went after a torpedo inbound on the Claw?

Jeanette Deveraux = Angel
Aerie = Seraph

Angel = Seraph?

Hmmmm... possible...

But if you're concerned, don't worry, we don't have "Blair" around to save the day this time... good ol' Maverick can't be everywhere at once...

did you ever see that episode of "Amazing stories" in the pilot about the gunner in the ball turret of a b-29??? who made cartoon landing gear become reality?

What happened? Did he stick his legs out the hole in the bottom of the plane and run really fast as the plane landed?

next episode...touch down on a hot lz?

Eventually. And you better believe it's gonna be one hot, steamy LZ...

Er... no folks, it's not what you think. :)

Blech was right...freddy prince...yech...hurl...yep, the cast was pretty much a complete waste of time...

mabe cause the torpedo blew up, knocked out her life support, and she drifted for a while???

Jeanette Deveraux = Angel
Aerie = Seraph

Hmmmm... possible... :D

yeah, but some snobbery here in aerie's character...a seraph is a higher rank than normal angel...

you would like it...a twenty nine had to make a landing with one gear down, and the hatch to turret was stuck...so the gunner in an act of lunatic and utterly insane desperation drew cartoon landing gear coming out of a picture of the plane, and desperately tried to visualize it...and they appeared, just long enough to save his life...

next episode...touch down on a hot lz?

you mean the ghost busters ref?

There were a few. Take your pick. We've got some Ghostbusters here, some Starship Troopers over there, a whole lot of Wing Commander, a shred of Spaceballs, and even a touch of Quantum Leap. It's a smorgasbord of crap.

I really like blondes...

That's fine. I still don't know who you're talking about.

But I sense you're kinda iffy to discuss it, so I won't pry.

mabe cause the torpedo blew up, knocked out her life support, and she drifted for a while?

Rhetorical question.

yeah, but some snobbery here in aerie's character...a seraph is a higher rank than normal angel.

Well, you're right about that... but I didn't want to give her "Angel" as a callsign, and despite the "rank" connotations, I thought "Seraph" was similar enough. There's nothing "deeper" than that to be found. She's not going to try taking over Heaven any time soon.

I've never heard that one... and I'm not that familiar with the "Amazing Stories" program you mentioned. I'm guessing this is supposed to be a "factual account", then? Huh.

Though I have to wonder why they didn't just use the manual crank to lower the other gear or raise all of them and try a belly landing. Scraping the fuselage against the tarmac isn't exactly healthy for the plane, but it's better than trying to land with one gear down and flipping the entire bird end over end.

aha...a Jungle, right?

Semi-forested area, actually... I was just wondering if people were going to start expecting the gang to be doing some naked parachuting into a sauna... you know, because of that "hot and steamy" crack...

urm...sorry...i just couldn't remember the actress who played eowyn...her real name is miranda otto, and she is so cute!!!

it was steven spielberg's attempt at making a tv series...

and they couldn't lower the other gear cause the crank broke and remember how the ball turret on a 29 is on the bottom of the plane...the hatch was stuck, so if they made a wheels up landing...ouch!!!

steamy...

what, they're going to drop in on a hot tub resort??? hmmm... :D

Those Oh-So-Popular Notes:

- One (1), count ‘em, one (1), use of the F-word.

- Anywho, here we go… in an odd decision, I’ve gone and written a chapter that focuses largely on… well… you know her, you hate her, you’ve fantasized jamming her in an electric chair and having a barbeque… and I’m sure you’ve tumbled to who I’m talking about by now. :)

Aerie? Count me in with Theo in the Evil, Puppy-Kicking squad. And how much do I need to pay to be the one to pull the switch? ;) (Don't worry, I don't mean any harm by this - and just like Theo already said, the mere presence of Aerie certainly isn't enough to put me off the story.)

Tyler grumbled. “Yes, mother…” he said, serving up a sardonic reply to the Sabre’s pilot as he turned and reached for the end of his harness belt.

“Just checking. I don’t want any accidents… remember the time you smacked your forehead against the rear windshield of your turret?”

Ouch! Btw, I was having a hard time following who is who here...is the Sabre pilot meant to be Aerie? At first I was uncertain, because I didn't think it sounded too much like her, but then I got even more confused...er...rambling a bit I'm afraid.

“Er… t-this is Sideshow One, Flight Officer Alagar.” She tried to scratch her head then abruptly realized she had a flight helmet on. The knuckles of her gloved hand bumped up against the white-painted helmet, brushing across the black letters that spelled out her callsign: “S-E-R-A-P-H.” She spoke again over the still open comm channel. “You’re one of the new transfers from Fort Rostov, right? Um… well uh… welcome to the squadron. Er… lessee…pair up with Spirit… I guess. She’s quiet, but she knows the ropes.”

All right, this is clearly Aerie, but the previous woman didn't sound much like her. Was that somebody else then?

Tyler cut in over the comm, snagging the attention of the woman in the pilot’s seat. “Bandits 11:00 high, boss… couple of klicks out and closing fast…”

“Right. Um. Gotcha. Squad, this is Seraph. Break formation and engage at will. Don’t stray too far from the Gallante, she needs our protection. Bard, uh… ok… close up and form on me… we’re going after that pack of Grikaths… I’m uploading targeting info. Ready?”

Hm...not in any way trying to be mean here, but Aerie as a fighter pilot brings up some problems for me. I find it difficult to believe that she could hold such a position, especially that of a squad leader, with the insecurity and stuttering. Wouldn't that be very dangerous in the thick of combat? And would her subordinates really want to take orders from her?

Basically, I think that if you want to make her convincing to me as a frontline fighter, you need to expand more on this and define her character more.

“Why… that would be me. If you’ve got something to say, ‘sir’… please say it so I can get back to doin’ my fuckin’ job.”

'

Go Immy! ;)

Oh, and I like both Arwen and Eowyn. Does that make me a complete weirdo? :)
Rogues do it from behind.

No.

And yeah, I know... this version of Aerie... isn't much like any others... she's still a bit insecure, and nervous and isn't exactly the best at "rallying" people to whatever cause she's "championing" at the moment, but for the most part, she's a bit less... er... wussy.

And I know, that's out of character for her. I know it.

But, as I've said to Theo, I'm not sure it's all -that- much of a stretch. I think it's possible, given the right set of circumstances, but I don't really think there's going to be any place (at least not in the near future) where I can go into detail about that stuff.

I mean, the original BioWare character does toughen up some during the course of the game, and I guess we're expected to believe that combat experience, and maybe some help from the more sympathetic folks in the party is responsible for her being a little more assertive and a little less passive. I don't think that's too far-fetched.

I kinda figure that something similar's happened with this version... the only problem is that I haven't had the chance to go all-out and explain all the stuff that happened which changed her, and... well... I'm not sure I ever will, unfortunately. I want to try it, see if I can pull it off, but I'm not sure it's possible. The way things are looking now, I might be able to get into a -little- of that kind of stuff in the next chapter or two, (Gasp! Spoiler! She makes it!) but I get this ugly feeling it just won't be enough.

I suppose that's just what I get, though, for trying to introduce a character mid-stream, making them vastly different from what the "original" version was, and then trying to foist that reinvented version off on anyone. This could very well go the way of "world's worst failed experiments"... something akin to rolling around in toxic waste to see if it'll give me superpowers, or it might be "my finest hour."

Pfft. Yeah, right. Let's just stick with the toxic waste analogy. It's more plausible. ;)
