Adrian: Baldur's Gate

Chapter 99.

Blub....blub....blub....

"That," said Kagain, "Does not sound good."

"No indeed," agreed Adrian.

There was some large gray ooze making the noise. Surrounded by several undead monsters, including an ogre and a gnoll.

"Sssssooooooo, sssspawwwwnnnnn--" the ooze began. Adrian panicked. For all her supportiveness and understanding, he did not want Jessa or her superiors to find out what he was. He fired his crossbow. Nobody else thought it strange, not even Jessa; it was natural to attack monsters, particularly undead.

The fight was long and brutal. The party was not injured, but the enemy refused to fall.

Adrian went head to head with the undead ogre. The mages unleashed their magics on the ooze, stikcing to magic missles and acid arrows.

Kagain, Jessa, Viconia and Tiax each closed with one of the other undead. There were still two undead left over; these ghouls came to the aid of the undead Ogre Adrian was fighting. The ooze was slipping and slurping up behind them, despite the wizards best efforts. Adrian felt fear.

It was then that Tiax danced backwards, and linked hands with Xzar. Together they muttered a Word.

Every member of the undead dropped, leaving only the ooze. The party hammered it down.

"I see you two have been working together rather more than I thought," said Adrian dryly. "You bear watching."

"Why didn't you do that before?" asked Jessa.

"Wouldn't have been as effective if they were full strength," explained Xzar. "This way, we could finish them."

"Thank you for telling us that in advance," sneereed Edwin.

Then a ROAR came down the sewer corridor. Some giant thing was bent over in the corridor. It was big. It was huge. It was monstrous.

"What...is....that," said Adrian.

"I don't know," said Edwin. "But I think we should go the other w--"

The thing stopped, and froze. Literally froze. Even in the dark, they could see it had turned to ice. Then it shattered.

Standing behind it was a party of adventurers. Jaheria. Branwen. Khalid. Two pike-wielding men in chain mail.

And standing just behind where the monster had been, Imoen. Wearing a black and yellow bodysuit, hair dyed a shocking shade of pink. With a blue glow fading from her hand.

Obviously, Adrian's numbed mind realized, she had learned to control father's gifts as he had, and had learned some form of cold based attack.

Imoen smiled, sadly. "Hello, brother."
