Adrian: Baldur's Gate

Chapter 97.

Revenge.

That was the first and foremost thing on Sarevok's mind when he awoke. Not against Adrian, whom he was confident he could destroy when the time came, if it came to that. No, it was Reiltar who needed to die. And he was tired of waiting.

Assuming Adrian survived the city, he would eventually follow the trail to Candlekeep, back to his home. And if and when he did, he would meet the Dopplegangers there. And Reiltar had expressed an interest in holding council there with certain factions they needed to keep quiet for the false plan....

Sarevok smiled grimly. Yes, one way or another, Reiltar would die in Candlekeep. Perhaps Adrian too. Chuckling evilly, he roused Tamoko.

Business.

That was first and foremost in Adrian's mind when he awoke. Revenge against Sarevok would come, he was sure of it. He could afford to be patient. Strategy and planning would lead him to that goal. But there was much else to be done first.

Viconia was already awake, washing her ivory-toned hair across the room, in a bowl of hot water. After admiring her shapely form for a moment, the water reminded Adrian of something else; the need for a proper bath. He would have to arrange it with the Innkeeper. But that was later.

He rose from bed. "Time to seek another comission from our friends at the Flaming Fist."

It was approaching noon when the entire party had been roused, fed, and gotten a move on. Scar was pleased to recive them.

"Yes, we have work for you," he agreed. "Several prominent citizens have gone missing. Our only lead are dislodged sewer caps in the southwest quadrant of the city. Officer Vai will accompany you. She's currently in our tower overlooking the harbor. Take this pass with you, and they'll let you in to get her." He handed Adrian a small wooden placard with the Flaming Fist symbol on it.

"What of the Iron Throne?" Xzar asked.

Scar grimaced. "Oh there's definitely something there, all right, but I don't have enough to act on yet. I'll let you know."

"I appreciate that," said Adrian.

It was good to see Jessa again. Edwin particularly was glad to see her. Adrian smirked; the mage seemed to have a weakness for feisty redheads.

"I'll lead you to the nearest disturbed grate," she said.

Adrian wrinkled his nose. Sewers. Yes, he'd definitely need a bath after this. They all would.

With help from Kagain, Jessa wrenched open the street cap.

"Doesn't look that disturbed to me," said Viconia.

"Oh, we resealed it," said Jessa. "Didn't want any children getting lost down there, or something else getting out."

The open hole exposed ladder rungs. Jessa led them down into the foul darkness.
