Adrian: Baldur's Gate

Chapter 39.

"So the camp has been destroyed?" Officer Vai asked Adrian.

"Aye, and here's a fair sampling of scalps; Human, Hobgoblin, Gnoll. And you see the new equipment we've liberated from them."

"Yes...." she nodded approvingly. "We can get back to the Gate now. Thank you, Adrian. You ever get there, look me up."

"I'll keep that in mind," Adrian promised. "So, you know about this 'Burning Wizard' business?"

Jessa Vai nodded. "The Inn was named after the old mage academy that burnt down."

"Of course!" Xzar exclaimed. "I remember hearing about that when I was an apprentice!" He giggled. "They say the wizards burned such preety colors....."

"They were seen as rivals to Thay, Halruaa, and other major magical powers," said Edwin. "They burned the school down."

"Good, then you two can lead us there," said Adrian. "Be seeing you again, Jessa."

She smiled warmly. "Count on it."

The wizard Semaj, one of Sarevok's lieutenants, shivered nervously. "Tazok and the special guardians are at the Cloakwood mine even now."

"Tazok will be long gone by the time Adrian gets there," said Sarevok, golden eyes blazing into his face. Semaj cringed back. "We need to act more immediately."

"Neither the Monk nor his...ally are ready for field testing!" Semaj protested.

"If Adrian isn't stopped, there may be no field of war to test them in. Release them, now!"

Adrian's party finally got the Shadow leather for Safana, and made a brief side trip to High Hedge to restock on spells and magical bolts and bullets. Then they turned their attention eastwards, to burnt out shell of the academy.

As advertised, Edwin and Xzar had no trouble leading them there. They looked down on the burnt out shell of the place from a medium distance.

"Magic is always a dangerous profession," mused Viconia. "Many males in the Underdark found it a quickly terminal line of work."

"Rivalry is always fraught," Edwin agreed.

"Many mages died here, I can feeeeel it," crooned Xzar. Adrian frowned; he seemed to be losing it again.

"Let's go."
