Adrian: Baldur's Gate

Chapter 148.

Sarevok lunged, then hacked downwards. Adrian parried both blows easily, but felt his brother's strength through the meeting of their blades. The Sword of Chaos and his own glowing green weapon sizzled where they connected.

Sarevok had absorbed a fair amount of poison, but he was, Adrian judged, hale enough to survive it, unless pushed into fatigue. So Adrian remained on the defensive, blocking and defending.

Sarevok lunged again, and Adrian backstepped, leaving Sarevok to fall forward, and sprawl heavily in his armor, grunting in pain. Adrian didn't waste any time mocking his embarrasment, he merely stabbed downwards for the back of his brother's exposed neck, hoping to end his life.

But Sarevok anticipated that attack and scuttled backwards, crablike. Adrian's green blade sprarked off his horned helm.

Adrian was forced to jump as Sarevok swung the Sword of Chaos low to the ground, trying to cut him off at the ankles.

Zavrian danced through the battle, coming face to face with a cultist. He swung his katars upwards, and they met his opponent's enchanted staff.

The cultist tried to disarm him by spinning his staff, but Zavrian held firm. Hanging onto his weapons, he countered the spin, then stabbed forwards, killing hte cultist.

Bexira and Safana, members of Zavrian's crew, teamed up against an enemy ghoul. It pawed at Bexira, who blocked easily, and Safana worked around behind it, until she was able to drive her magical blade into it's neck.

* * *

Khalid and Jaheira were in the thick of the battle, flanked by harper pikemen.

Jaheira's scimitar gutted a cultist, and Khalid buried his blade in the head of another. Unfortunately this allowed another cultist to cast hold on them. Jaheria resisted the spell, but Khalid was paralyzed. A Harper pikemen closed on the cultist and stuck him with his spear.

* * *

Kagain closed with Angelo, teh corrupt flaming fist commander. Sword and axe met, again and again, until Kagain got in a lucky strike and chopped Angelo's sword hand off. Instead of fainting from lost blood or even being surprised, Angelo just gave a curse and punched Kagain in the face with his other hand.

* * *

Viconia pounded down an opponent with her hammer, then raised him as a zombie to attack his fellows.

* * *

Tiax had run out of sling bullets and had attacked his enemies directly, screaming all the while about how he would rule. A fireball cast from the mages of his own side exploded a little too near him, and sent him flying into Semaj, knocking the mage's wind out and ruining the ice spell he'd been aiming at Xzar.

* * *

Jessa Vai was duelling with a cultist. She knocked the enemy's mace into the air, then beheaded him.

* * *

The center of the temple floor was a large Bhaalsymbol. Both sides avoided it, as it was heavily trapped. Sarevok, of course, had known this, and Adrian had anticipated it as soon as he entered the temple and seen it.

But now Sarevok was slowly forcing Adrian back towards it, hoping to end his life by making him fall onto it.

The brothers' blades came together, and with a loud ring, went flying to Adrian's left, and Sarevok's right. Rather than go for his blade, which is what Sarevok would expect him to do, Adrian summoned all of his strength and grabbbed his brother under the arms and LIFTED.

With great strain, he was able to toss his brother back a few feet. Then he went for his blade, but Sarevok caught him with a flying tackle, and tried to get his spiked gauntles around Adrian's throat.
